I'm looking at getting some kettlebells & DVDs and working out with those at home before work in the morning. So far I'm stumped as to what kind of kettlebells to get & what DVD is best for a beginner.

It seems kettlebell sets are pretty expensive so I want to make sure I'm buying the right ones so I don't dump money into things I don't need.

Is it best to get kettlebells that are all round, or the ones that are round but flat on the bottom, or the contoured ones that are not really round buy sort of concaved on the sides.

Also, any recommendations for good kettlebell workout DVDs? I've been online at Amazon, Walmart and Target and it seems the DVD + kettlebell sets might not have the best products. I thought about buying a set of a range of kettlebell weights, but those seem expensive ($150-$300).

Any advice is appreciated!

Kettle Bells = yanking your back out.
Before you buy them, sign-up for a class and learn to lift and move them properly.
There are many cross fit gyms around here and Kettle bell classes and I could tell you many stories of people that throw out their backs. Skip the kettle bells and buy regular weights and lift properly.

I'm interested in the kettlebells as well. I hope someone that uses then can give some helpful info!

Take classes at a gym who has qualified instructors. I have been teaching kettlebell classes for 7+ years and I'm still learning. The proper swing form can be extremely difficult to learn. Using the kettlebell instead of a dumbbell for certain strength moves is a easy switch.

Jillian Michaels has a pretty good kettle bell workout DVD. I got it from Amazon. Bought a round kettle bell that is flat on the bottom weighs 15 lbs from Walmart. Make sure to watch the tutorial on the proper use of the kettle bell that is included on that DVD if you end up going with jillian :) Good luck!

My DH started kettle ball training at his crossfit class. He is showing really good improvement. :goodvibes

This isn't true if you know what you're doing. A person can injure themselves when taking up any new sport if they don't receive the proper instruction.

OP, I agree you need to find a certified instructor and pay careful attention to your form.
