Ketchup, Please. DLR condiments and toppings

Ranchup??? Ewwww that's just wrong....now fry sauce is awesome but I think we already covered that one. lol

I like spicy Ranch but I make my own, I mix salsa with Ranch and there ya go. I prefer Italian on my salads and I make my own of that too tho. :) I like to make my own stuff a lot, that way I know exactly what's in it. :)

Subs, I like Spicy Italians from Subway or their Tuna, those are my favorites. I put cheese on them, no mayo or mustard and add the following veggies, lettuce, onion, olives, bell peppers, pickles, cucumbers, banana peppers, oil/vinegar, salt/pepper and YUM!!! Notice the no tomatoes here either? I'm not a big tomato fan, unless it's on pizza, pasta sauce, salsa, ketchup or freshly grown tomatoes I don't want them. lol

I do have something weird that I LOVE to eat, DBF thinks I'm gross but I love it. I slice white onions and cucumbers, put them in a bowl, add some white vinegar, a little salt and water, let it sit and YUM!!!!! My fave!!

So, how about tuna? Who eats it and how do you make it?
I like it plain on a salad with balsamic vinegar or if I make it I like to add white onions, garlic & onion salt, small diced pickles, a little mayo and some of the pickle brine, mix it together and YUM!! I eat it on sandwiches or with Triscuits, that's what I have for lunch today actually. lol

Ok, have to say the cucumber/onion thing is a little strange! :rotfl:

Tuna should be mixed with mayo and pickle relish. Celery ruins the whole thing, so don't add that! :)

My Mom has made cucumber and onions like that forever. I don't care for it. I love cucumbers though--but like to slice them, add them to ice water--yummm. So refreshing in the Summer.

I make tuna salad the same way. Not only does celery ruin it it's a pain in the rear to dice it up!

Egg salad is just mayo, salt and pepper--no pickle relish.

I'm okay with celery in tuna salad but I agree that relish is better. But I'm not a big fan of tuna to begin with. I actually prefer to substitute canned chicken breast for tuna. It has a similar taste because it's canned like tuna is but it doesn't have the fishy taste to it. I used to buy the "salad confetti" at Vons in the produce section which was small diced up carrots, celery, radish and I think tiny bits of brocolli (?). Then I would put that in with the chicken to make chicken salad so I could have crunchy things without having to do any work. I haven't seen the salad confetti recently though so I don't know if they stopped making it or if my Vons just stopped selling it.

I have to disagree about the egg salad. It has to be Miracle Whip (not mayo) and pickle relish is a must!

I have bought the salad confetti too in the past--but my Vons closed :sad1:--I used it in soups and stir fries. Never thought about tuna/chicken salad. Hmmmm.

I've never been a big Miracle Whip fan.

I don't care for Miracle Whip either. Don't know where my sister got that. :confused3 But it is good in my mom's potato salad. :)

I don't think I ever put Miracle Whip on anything but egg salad but egg salad just doesn't taste right to me without it. I'm sure I got that from our mom since I'm pretty sure that's what she uses for egg salad and deviled eggs too.

Miracle Whip isn't my fave either, I prefer regular mayo. But I'm not a big mayo fan either so I usually skip that too. LOL DBF uses pickle relish in his tuna mix, he uses sweet pickle relish. I don't like fishy fish but I've never had an issue with tuna, probably because I mix in the dill pickle juice. LOL I don't do celery in my tuna either, that's just icky. :)

I'm not a big egg salad fan, I really don't make it at all.....LOL

Cheryl I'm glad I'm not the only person who's heard of cucumbers & onions in vinegar, it is good but I don't make it often because I'm the only one who eats it. lol

Ok--am I dreaming? I swear that a few weeks ago I was at a grocery store and saw Best Foods Mayo with Lime. I tried to buy it last week, but can't remember what store it was at (and Albertson's didn't have it). I found a Mexican brand but I really like Best Foods. Has anyone else seen this? I want to try it on fish tacos (unless somebody has a really good recipe for the sauce that goes on fish tacos)--sorry to divert the thread!

Kerri--cucumbers and onions was a staple at all our family barbeques--everyone ate it except me. I didn't like cucumbers at the time and never have liked uncooked onions. Hmmm. Might have to make it (as a nostalgia thing) for the family Fourth of July BBQ I'm doing.

Oh--and sometimes instead of the vinegar/sugar combo she did it with sour cream. Have you ever done that?

I cannot remember where I saw it but it was a high Hispanic clientele store. I think the Stater Brothers and probably at Northgate markets.

Best Foods® Mayonesa con Jugo de Limón (Mayonnaise with Lime Juice). The lime juice adds a unique flavor to the mayonnaise taste you already love, so it's sure to add the right kick to your foods. Try it for yourself and you'll see how it makes everyday foods even more savory and flavorful! Click on the product image to display nutritional information.

Ingredients for Mayonesa con Jugo de Limón

Bst Foods and Hellmann's do not use lemon juice like Kraft does so this probably would be more like Kraft Mayonnaise in taste.

As for tuna I used to drain the tuna and save a little of the broth. I would add Best Foods mayonnaise, pickle relish and Gulden's brown mustard. Then a bit of broth for moisture. I do not like celery scent on my hands and do not eat celery except cooked like stews and soups. Celery does not belong in salads, hrmph. I have tried tuna with egg mixed in and that was good.

My two pan meal is to cook in one pan meat and in another hash browns and canned corn. I also like to mix canned corn into mashed potatos.

I had no idea that onion cucumber thing was so popular. I have never heard of it before. :confused3

I haven't seen that lime mayo before either or maybe I haven't paid attention. I always look for the Light Mayo. I figure it is a good compromise between reg. and fat free. :)

Cheryl, my Gma made it a few times with mayo but no one really liked it so she stopped. LOL We always had it at BBQs too, that's when I'm craving it and usually end up making it. I know, it sounds disgusting but really it's like pickles without the dill.....LOL

My Wife's favorite Salad at HomeTown Buffet was the Cuccumber and onion salad. But They dont serve that anymore, so she really doesn't like going there anymore... I've tried to make it, sounds easy to make, but it doesn't taste the same.... My Dad makes it with Maynoise, I love it that way, but hardly anyone else in our family likes it that way....

Parsec, mine is made without mayo and I don't measure so I really can't help with an actual recipe but, I just slice a whole cuke, half a white onion and layer that in a bowl, then add vinegar just until you can see it under the veggies, add some salt but you can leave it out, I add just a couple of tablespoons or less, then I add water by taste until it's not too vinegar tart. Next time I'll try to remember to measure for you. I didn't know they had that on the buffet, but I don't really like buffets so we don't eat there. lol

Well, not to turn this into a recipe thread, but here is a recipe for a Veggie Salad I got from my church. The rector's wife brought it to a potluck and I asked him for the recipe! I think the marinade would go good on cucumber and onions (or really any veggies--) I often just pull out whatever is in the cupboard or fridge--the marinade is addictive really.

VEGGIE SALAD

2 15 oz Cans of French cut green beans

2 15 oz Cans LaSueur Peas

3 11 oz Cans Green Giant White Shoepeg Corn

2 4 oz Jars Pimentos (diced)

6 Stalks Celery (chopped)

2 Green Peppers (diced)

4 Boiler Onions (rings)

Drain all canned vegetables and mix all together in a large bowl. Add
marinade.

Marinade

Whisk together:

1 Cup Sugar

1.5 Cups White Vinegar

1 Cups Olive or other salad oil

2 Teaspoons Hungarian Paprika (sweet)

Pour over vegetables and let stand overnight.

I am obsessed with Ranch Dressing and love the taste of Chili's ranch or even Carl's Jr./Hardees House dressing. I love fried zucchini from there dipped in House!!!! Ranch dressing at Disneyland is disappointing. Most times if you ask for a side of Ranch you get the sealed package of Hidden Valley which I don't like. Anyone had really good restaurant-style Ranch at DLR?

Hmmm.. Good question! Restaurant ranch always tastes better for some reason. At home my mom used to make Uncle Dan's Ranch Dressing from a packet. That is the best, just like a restaurant. Then they stopped selling it. So now she looks for it when she goes out of state. She used to get it on trips to Washington.

I love restaurant Ranch, but a lot of time it's just Hidden Valley. Marie's is similar in flavor to restaurant quality Ranch.
