If you follow the past polls and information for D. and the R. the following was said by Hillary Clinton:

"If Kerry wins the White House, we will take back all of your tax breaks and take the money away that is in your pocket for the common good of the country."

Here's the thing - simple economics: "You have to spend money to make money". You will need to push money into the economy to stimulate it and make it work.

Now here is the question, . . . . "Why do you want someone in office that admits they will take the money out of your pocket?"

IF (BIG IF) Senator Clinton said this she was probably saying it tongue in cheek because the trickle down ain't tricklin'. Guys like my Dad are hanging on to their cash harder now than they were
when Reagan tried the same economic "voodoo". The "voodoo"
came from the elder Bush BTW. In other words, the money was
put in your pocket for the "common good" dummy, not for you to keep it there and count it everyday. You were supposed to spend
it to create jobs and stimulate the economy. Instead, it's the rich
getting stimulated by the common good money sitting in their
pocket -pocket pool anyone?:sunny:

the following was said by Hillary Clinton:

If Bush is such a great candidate, why lie?

You know full well that is not a quote from Hillary Clinton. I'm assuming since you took what she said and changed it to suit your purposes, you know what she really said and you also know who she said it to.

Talk about an abomination....

But since I'm not a purely selfish animal, I'm able to look past my own immediate needs to see that some things are necessary for the common good; and since I'm not short sighted, I can also see that by helping those in the most need in our society, I'm also helping myself in the long run, and my children will thank me for it.

So you have finally come around and agree to helping the Iraqis?

:)

The H. Clinton comment came from a D. fund raiser that she attended that people were paying $10,000 a plate for . . . . made Fox News and CNN, etc. a couple weeks back.

It's all simple economics - to stimulate the economy - you lower interest rates, hoping that the manufacturing will take out more loans to produce more goods, causing the employees of said plant to make more money to boost the economy.

Say you want to increase the spending in economy by 20 mil . . . The govt. will introduce 5 mil in govt. contracts causing those construction workers to spend say 90 % of that money in the restaurant business . . . then the rest. will spend 90% of the 4.5 mil introduced to their business; then tthe rest. will by cars and that business will then spend . . .

and so on - it's the trickle down effect!

You know peach, if you would watch the news then you would know that the comment was true! so you can take your comment and your abomination and do you know what with it!

You are simply not telling the truth. She did make a comment regarding taxes. She did not say what you claim she said. You do know what quotes mean, don't you?

In the proper time and in the proper fashion, I would certainly have been in favor of "helping the Iraqis", much as I'm in favor of "helping the Sudanese"....

But the key phrase is: "in the proper time". Invading when and as we did made OUR country less safe, in my opinion. We can't help others when we're trying to defend ourselves from all the people we've pissed off by acting like we rule the world. As important as it is to help others around the world (or pay taxes to help those less fortunate) you must first take care of your OWN business, or you won't long be in a position to help anybody at all.

that is one thing that just irritates me beyond belief...when people paraphrase what someone said and put it in quotes. It is misleading and dishonest, and once someone does it, I never trust any quote they provide after that.

Since you won't do it, I will. This, I believe, is exactly what she said....

"Many of you are well enough off that ... the tax cuts may have helped you," "We're saying that for America to get back on track, we're probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good."

She was speaking to a very small group of extremely wealthy Democrats.

Here are your words that you claim were Ms. Clinton's:

"If Kerry wins the White House, we will take back all of your tax breaks and take the money away that is in your pocket for the common good of the country."

As I said, why lie if you are so confident about your candidate?

faith - you need to thank the liberal news media of CNN for that paraphrase!

believe what ever you want - people are so eager to accept handouts and say that I am poor, and poor me, I can't get a job; but I can afford A/C, have cable, and drive a car.

Our poor live pretty well and would be considered to live like kings in other countries like India.

Peachgirl, you beat me to it :teeth:

But...but...that doesn't look as bad !

Edited to add: "Our poor aren't really poor...Let them eat cake !"

Even better :rotfl:

faith - you need to thank the liberal news media of CNN for that paraphrase!

actually, you are asking me to believe your interpretation or memory or whatever of what CNN said, because a very quick search will bring up the exact same quote that peachgirl provided. The two statements do not convey the same thing at all, as you well know. Perhaps it was intentional on your part, perhaps you simply heard what you wanted to believe. Either way, no one should ever pretend to be quoting someone directly when they are using their own, or a third party's, words.

Yeah, but remember: Polls don't matter until November !!!

(unless, apparently, a Republican is winning ;) )
And it's going to get bounced around so much until then. I hope we don't see a zillion posts...although I like the news in this one! ;)

No, she should thank you, you're the one who made it up.

As to your comment about our poor living pretty well...

That's almost as good as your comments about gays being an abomination.

You're really a piece of work.

goudaman, just a few short minutes ago:"The H. Clinton comment came from a D. fund raiser that she attended that people were paying $10,000 a plate for . . . . made Fox News and CNN, etc. a couple weeks back."
Then
you need to thank the liberal news media of CNN for that paraphrase!

Hmmm...When did Faux News join the vast liberal media conspiracy ? :rotfl:

Doesn't sound appreciably different.....

So you don't see a problem with someone claiming that their words are those of someone else's?

You know, there's just no limit to how low someone can sink as long as they're saying what you want to hear.
