A week after the announcement of Edwards as veep, they are getting thrashed in his home state. Great news...

In a Gallup Poll on 7/9 Bush Cheney leads Kerry Edwards 54-39% in NC. Kerry's unfavorable rating of 43% in NC is too strong for Edwards to give him a boost.

I live 2 miles for the NC border and most people there have no idea who John Edwards is. According to the mayor of Charlotte- one of the largest cities in the state- in the years that Edwards has been in DC he was only given 15 minutes of his time. Edwards can pull all the 'son of a mill worker' etc stuff but he is still a mutimillionare injury lawyer who is out of touch with the people in his state.

No news there. No one ever expected Edwards to be able to deliver NC to Kerry.
Yeah, but remember: Polls don't matter until November !!!

(unless, apparently, a Republican is winning ;) )

As log as we're doing dueling polls:

Results of AP-Ipsos poll on the personal qualities of the presidential candidates
- The Associated Press
Monday, July 12, 2004

(07-12) 22:55 PDT (AP) --

The Associated Press-Ipsos poll on the personal qualities of President Bush and Democrat John Kerry is based on telephone interviews with 1,000 randomly selected adults, including 804 registered voters, from all states except Alaska and Hawaii. The interviews were conducted July 5-7 by Ipsos-Public Affairs.

The results were weighted to represent the population by demographic factors such as age, sex, region and education.

No more than one time in 20 should chance variations in the sample cause the results to vary by more than 3 percentage points from the answers that would be obtained if all Americans were polled. The margin of error for registered voters is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

This margin of sampling error is slightly larger for responses of subgroups, such as registered voters.

There are other sources of potential error in polls, including the wording and order of questions.

(QUESTIONS ASKED OF REGISTERED VOTERS)

Ok, first, at least 10% of the people responding in your poll were idiots :teeth: Only an idiot would respond "no" to the question of whether either candidate was wealthy.

Second, unless we've suddenly started voting for class president, I don't see those numbers as all that important. Which candidate is more "likable" ? Which is more "arrogant" ? Is "Best Smile" next ?

A couple telling numbers, though:

Honesty: 53-53 Tie
Decisive: 67-45, Bush (his ads are working to some extent)
Intelligent: 83-63, Kerry (So apparently, at least 4% of the people said Bush was decisive...but apparently not too bright :hyper: )

But all told, I think your conclusion is probably about right...I think it WILL be a close election in terms of electoral votes. I think that the popular vote will be an even larger win for the Dems than it was last time, however, and that will ultimately swing the electoral vote their way.

http://www.electionprojection.com/elections2004.html is particularly interesting. Follow the link to "21 reasons why Bush will win", and see how many things have changed since this was written. Proving that polls are only good for the day they come out. period. However, that being said, who would not prefer to be ahead?

Oops, I forgot about that!:D

That's a dangerous combination...leads to stupid decisions, huh? We didn't need a poll to tell us that though.

:rotfl:

If you follow the past polls and information for D. and the R. the following was said by Hillary Clinton:

"If Kerry wins the White House, we will take back all of your tax breaks and take the money away that is in your pocket for the common good of the country."

Here's the thing - simple economics: "You have to spend money to make money". You will need to push money into the economy to stimulate it and make it work.

Now here is the question, . . . . "Why do you want someone in office that admits they will take the money out of your pocket?"

Hmmm...That means that no multi-millionaire should ever support someone that is for them paying a larger share, right ? I mean, Dems believe in a progressive tax system, so no millionaire could ever vote democratic ?

Sure...If I existed on a purely selfish level, ignoring the welfare of anyone other than myself and my immediate family, I would agree with your statement completely.

But since I'm not a purely selfish animal, I'm able to look past my own immediate needs to see that some things are necessary for the common good; and since I'm not short sighted, I can also see that by helping those in the most need in our society, I'm also helping myself in the long run, and my children will thank me for it.

But hey...that's just me  Sorry...you may now post the standard response of "well...why don't you just send more money then..." ::laughing:

North Carolina usually goes to the Republican presidential candiate. John Edwards is still in his first term as a senator. He lives in Raleigh. Our other senator is Elizabeth Dole.

As a Republican, I think polls do show us certain things. When you're talking a national election and it's as tight as this one is, I wouldn't put too much emphasis on what the polls say right now. If you'd be talking a massive leading by one or the other than I think that might be a little more telling.

In all reality, Kerry will not take NC or Texas for that matter, but Bush doesn't have a shot in you know what of taking California either.

wvrevy, this one shocks me:
"Taxes"
Bush Kerry
6/17-20/04 40 53

I guess I just don't understand the mentality behind these numbers? The others don't really impress or shock me.

WV - have you ever taken an economic class????

The reason why I pose this question is because "your millionaire" may be paying more in taxes, but it is not hurting them nearly as much as the single mother working 50 hours at your local Taco Bell.

The only thing that adding the taxes back to everyone will do is make the rich richer, because there in the top 5% of the economy, so they don't care if they are taxed 23% of their income; but when you take someone that makes $20000 and is taxed 23%, that is a bigger percentage of their income.

SIMPLE ECONOMICS WV!

Yeah, that one kinda surprised me too....Either they got the numbers backwards, or the people responding to the poll were a lot more enlightened than I'd normally give them credit for...Personally, I'm betting on the former :teeth:

Sorry if off subject- but the kitty is so pretty!

Shes a flame point mixed

She is very neurotic and as you can see from my tag - shes been put on anti-psychotic drugs.

I have 3 cats, one is a semi feral cat I rescued when she was a kitten, but she has very aloof tendencies, not very friendly. I have 2 boy ragdoll cats. They are the friendliest and laid back cat breed. Each of the guys weigh 20lbs. each.

Now back to the Kerry/Edwards/Bush discussion.............:)

I opened up this thread to this exact post. For a split second I was confused. The last post I had read was about Hillary, and I thought you were still talking about her.:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
