I have never been a person who spends time doing my hair. I have really never used a blow dryer and don't have the patience or know-how to really "style" my hair. I do like the smooth look/feel of my hair if I use a flat iron. But even though I spend way less time than most people (maybe 15 mins), I still only do it occasionally if I really want to look nice. On an average day, I just can't be bothered.

I have read a lot about different keratin treatments, but I would like some personal opinions to see if this would be a waste of money for me.

Most things I have read mention drastically shortening the time it takes to style ones hair (like from 3 hours to 30 minutes) or that they now only use a blow drier, etc. I want to know how this will make a difference in the look/feel of my hair even when I just wash and let dry naturally.

I'm not looking for it to be super straight (although that's fine), I just want to be able to get a decent cut and have it look nice and smooth. My siblings all have very curly hair, but mine is just thick and wavy so it doesn't really curl well if I put product in it and let it dry but if I brush it it's too frizzy. Honestly I usually just wind up wearing it in a bun/braid, so I'm looking into the keratin as a way to have nice hair that I can wear down and not have to think about too much.

I am a lot like you. I have thick unpretty wavy hair. When I let my hair be it is poofy and not really wavy, it just curls in weird directions.

I started using keratin shampoo/conditioner about a year ago. It has made a huge difference.

I shower at night, do not dry my hair and in the morning, my hair is smoother than it would be and the flat iron easily makes it smooth and straight.

I have tried several brands and I always go back to KeratinPerfect that I get at Sephora.

I use the shampoo and conditioner and then replenishing spray before I flat iron.

The monthly ave cost: $ 48 -82

I do it and I love it. I am low-maintenance in the sense that I do not wear makeup or spend more than 10 minutes on my hair, but I do a lot of things (Botox, Latisse, dyeing eyebrows) so that I can *be* low-maintenance. Keratin falls in that category.

I have fine, wavy hair. If I spend 30+ minutes on it, it can look good. Not great, but good. That's with washing, drying, flatironing, using product ... and then if it rains or is humid, forget it. One big puffy ball of yuck.

With the keratin, my hair dries in under 5 minutes, no product, no need to flatiron. I don't have the weird wavy pieces that stick out, the frizz, etc. My hair looks perfect with minimal effort and time.

The salon I go to uses the Peter Coppola keratin process. It's pricey, but to me it's worth it. I was never able to get my hair to look this good on my own before.

I don't know about the express keratin treatments, etc., but they are less expensive. Keep an eye out on Groupon and LivingSocial for deals.

Best of luck! I love it.

I agree with this. I have long, relatively straight hair, but it's thin and in the summer months it looked awful before the Keratin treatment. My hair dries in no-time now with a hair dryer and I threw out my straightener. The texture of the hair feels a little different at first, but not drastically so. It's well worth it, IMO.

I also have the Coppola keratin process done. I love it... I have firzzy, wavy, cant do anything with hair... now its smooth and straight. Not pin straight where it just lays there. I have no more frizz, even on rainy days. If I blow dry, it only takes a few minutes and no need for product. I can also let it air dry.

It is expensive; but it was 100% worth it. My process was $250 and it lasted for about 6-8 months. After about 6 months you could see the change; but it still wasnt as bad as before the process.

I have abnormally thick hair that is wavy and tends to frizz. I do salon keratin treatments and there is no way I can go without still styling my hair. My hair is a bit softer and it doesn't tangle the way it used to but it still needs to be ironed to get that smooth look.

It's reassuring to read many of you have good results with minimal/no effort after treatment. I guess it just depends on my hair type compared with yours.

I appreciate all the responses.
I think I will probably try it. Now I need to find a salon. I just hate to spend a few hundred dollars on something without knowing that it will really make much of a difference.

That describes me as well. I will never, ever go without a keratin treatment again. I can now go to Cozumel and cruise without worrying about my hair.

I too will never not have a Keratin treatment. The difference that it made is well worth the money. Good luck! :cheer2:

P.S. The only negative thing about it is not being able to wash my hair for 3 days. That drove me crazy!
