We are staying with friends for a week at Kentucky lake. It's near Princeton/Eddyville. Any ideas of things to do?

Referrels to rent pontoon or jet skis? Do you have to be 18 at all rental places for the jet skis?

Are there any movie theathers nearby(for rainy days) ?

Pulled up a small waterpark in the area but it's hard to see how small - any info?

Thanks for your help!

I have never personally been to the waterpark but it looks kind of small.

I would recommend going to Patti's 1880 Settlement which is not that far from there. They have soem really good pork chops there. http://www.pattis-settlement.com/ There are other things to do there as well.

If you guys have rainy days and don't care to drive a little bit than you could head to over the Ohio River into Illinois and hit Metropolis. They have a huge Superman statue as well as some museums. For adults they have a casino.

There are movie theaters not far away.

Thanks -- Patti's is on the list - heard it was great.

We won't be able to go very far - too many kids and not enough seats in the vehicle (guys will be back on weekends with transport).

We have lots of preteens and teens so not everyone will be going each trip out. We'll be in the water - the house has it's own dock.

I'm having a hard time pulling up info and the tourism pack didn't help.

Any have a favorie rental place for boat or jet ski's?

Visit the prison? :rotfl2:

J/K. That's just the first thing that comes to mind when I hear "Eddyville".

The prison is actually a little farther that you would think. It is a pretty neat looking place (design wise) but no really worth the trip.

I was told we could see the prison with binoclars, maybe that's why we got such a good deal for the week... (we'll be close to Eddyville)

lol

We have to keep teenagers busy and out of you know where! Any other ideas?

Thanks!

I've been there for work once. Actually does look kind of neat. It's just the first thing I think about if someone says "Eddyville".

Hate to break it to you, but not much to do there at all. I'd try the waterpark. It is very popular in the summer with the locals. I've been to the prision many, many times. You can't do a tour our anything, but there is a museum that is kind of interesting if you like that type of thing. The prision is actually beautiful when viewed near dark from a boat. It is called "the castle."

The Land between the Lakes park has some nice activities for kids. You can google that and see what activities they have. I believe they have a small planetarium at the main visitor center.

You can also drive into Paducah to the mall, etc. It's the largest, nearest city.

This is a beautiful area, but not a lot to do. Have fun!

This is so funny. I grew up in Paducah and spent a lot of time at the lake. We usually camped on KY Lake but, we have camped on Barkley as well.
You can see the State Penn. from the lake - it is kind of freaky.
My in-laws have a condo in Kuttawa (on Barkley Lake). We recently (last summer) went to Buzzard Rock on the boat and ate. It is a great place for live music and sandwiches. You can just drive up with your boat and park it.
Once you have a boat, you can go to Kuttawa Cliffs (if you guys aren't too scared) and jump!
Be careful in Barkley Lake with your boat (if you rent or whatever) - there are a lot of shallow spots! We have seen some pretty expensive boats stuck on sand bars in the middle of the lake (just stay in the channel).
Green Turtle Bay is near the Barkley dam and they have a restaurant that used to be nice. However, that is really close to Patti's - highly recommended! Get a pork chop and cheese sticks!
We have gone to Venture River - we really like it! It's not too small. There is a yummy sandwich/ice cream shop across the highway - Lic's.
Near the KY Dam, there is Maggie's Jungle Golf (minature golf). Also, not too far in Calvert City - there is the Calvert City Drive In. Fun times and yummy burgers!
Within LBL there are lots of trails for bike riding. And, yes, somewhere in LBL there is a Planetarium (I remember going there for a field trip!). There are tons of great campgrounds. We always stayed at Holiday Hills (on Barkley) and either Hillman's Ferry or KY Dam Village (on KY lake).
I don't have any recommendations for rentals. I'm sure most of the marinas have rentals. I would just pick one close to where you are going to be staying.
Have fun! :)

Thank-you - that's what I needed to know! We'll be in Kuttawa (couldn't remember the name). The drive-in will be great (not many around anymore). I'm writing these down!
