Have any of you recently boarded a pet at one of WDW kennels?
Can you remember the price? Also, how did you like the facility?

Thanks for any info!

I've never used the kennels. I'll bump this back to page one and I'm sure someone will have some information for you.

We have used WDW kennels many times.

The easiest access one is the Magic Kingdom because it is in a seperate building. You drive right up to it.

Epcot is our new preferred kennel. That is because they recently started offering to walk your dog for a small fee per walk. They have a fenced in area to walk your dog so it is safe.

There are also kennels at Animal Kingdom, MGM, and Ft. Wilderness.

This info is as of May 2003. You should call WDW to make sure it is current.

Prices:

$6 per day for a day visit.
$9 per night if you are staying on property
$11 per night if you are staying off property

Epcot walk $2.50 per walk

WDW requires current medical records (copy)
If you want to board inside (AC) proof of bordatella
WDW also requires that you walk your dog daily, they will not remove your dog from his/her kennel (except Epcot).

Our trip in May we stayed 3 days. I purchased 3 walks a day and I walked him 3 times.

It was less stressful on me. I didn't have to worry about getting to the kennel as soon as it opened and letting him out. Didn't have to worry about scheduling activities around being able to give him a walk. Less stressful on Cooper as he is relatively new to our family, because he was being given attention all thru the day.

Cooper doesn't seem to mind staying there. He does prefer Epcot. I think because its not as noisy. MK kennel is right in front of the resort bus area at the TTC.

Our Bruiser (who has passed on) loved going to the MK kennel. He got to know the cast members quite well.

Neither dog liked the AK kennel. I think because there was no outdoor kennel at the time and it was smaller.

I do not like MGM kennel because you have to walk your dog along side the building and there are trams going by and people all around.

We have never used the kennel at Ft. Wilderness.

Cooper will also as we go a lot and travel with him as much as possible.

Sometimes your doggie gets a certificate of good behavior as a keepsake.

I like the convenience of having my dog close by. If we are staying for more than 3 days, I do usually board him at a local pet resort here where I live. But that is just a personal preference, nothing against WDW kennels.

I hope this helps.

Have to say the cms at the FW kennel are great. They seem to give extra care to our pets as they now recognize them from our numerous visits.

They are great about keeping the area clean and are very friendly. The kennel is right at the entrance to the campground and there is plenty of room to go for walks. The area at the TTC kennel for us was too well used.

Thanks so much for all of your helpful info! We have a maltese and if you know anything about the breed you know when I say that they really need attention even if it is just laying in your lap. We have never had to board her when we have gone to WDW because my parents keep her and she is very happy there. However this trip my parents may be going with us. I am just trying to decide if we should take her with us. At least this way she would see us at least once a day. On the other hand, trying to get to the kennel to see and walk her could become a hassle. However, boarding her I am afraid is going to be tramatic for her. Her personality is so much like a small child. It may seem silly but this will be a tough decision.

What are the actual kennels like? Are they all just cages, or are some the type with an indoor 'house' and an outdoor run? We've always boarded our dogs at home since we fly, but we're thinking about making a short trip after we visit friends in South Carolina next spring, so since we'll be driving to SC, we're thinking about bringing the dogs. But one of them is rather large and so staying in just a cage would be too confining for him.

I just called about this today--We live at the beach in SOuth Carolina, and Hurricane Isabel has us worried! Our stay at the WL next week willbe a great "evacuation" place for us, but we will need to bring our dog if the hurricaine is threatening the SC coast.

When I called today, they said:
--You need a copy of your pet's immunization records--hep, rabies, parvo, bordatella for dogs
--6.00 for day, or 9.00 overnight
--as mentioned above, you need to walk your dog 3x daily if he is an overnight guest.
--The crate size is about 3x5--our 100lb + golden is about as large a dog that can fit comfortably in a cage this size.

Hope this helps!

Jane ~ we totally agree with you. It is a hard decision! We have no children yet, so our puppies are our kids.

I had to lol at previous poster regarding getting a good behavior certificate. The 1st time we left our jack russell puppy (Maisey) at the "Canine Country Club" where we board here at home, we got a letter from the principal! She had lost her "cot privileges". Thank goodness they caught her before she tore up the "cot"! I doubt we would ever get a good behavior letter! LOL! We had to sign an agreement the next time, that we would pay to replace the cot if she chewed it up!

Good Luck and let us know how it goes. I would love to learn more about the kennels.

I've heard a lot of great things about Bass Pet Motel in Kissimmee. I was impressed with their facilities and was going to board my dog there until we found a hotel that allowed pets so we kept him with us. But anyway, here is the webpage: http://www.basspetmotel.com/
