Need some advice. We are going to Disney in April. Yeah!! This will be our first trip since getting our dog last year. Emma is a 6 year old boxer. We love her to death and she is part of our family. The kids are so excited to go to Disney, but hate the thought of leaving Emma behind. Which leads me to my question. Has anyone used the kennels at Ft Wilderness? We are staying at the cabins for the first time and I know they have kennels on property there. I know they kennel the dogs, which we don't like the idea of. Do you know if the kennels are big or small. Emma is about 60 pounds. Will she have room to move around in one? Also, will the kids be able to go and visit her if they want to? Any info anyone has would be great. It would help put the kids minds at ease.
Thanks.

Our first trip to FW and camping in the RV was last year. We used the kennels at FW for 3 days that we were going to be in the parks all day. We have 2- 45lb. dogs who are always together. We had them put them in 1 large cage so that will give you some idea of cage size. The facilities are old, but looked clean enough. I have to say that this is the first and only time we have ever put them in kennels. They did fine. You can have some extras added on to your stay like more walks, etc. You can bring their food if you want and can visit anytime you like. Ours were day guests but they have plenty of overnight dogs also. Call them well in advance for reservations and prices, etc. We had no problems and they even give you a report card at the end of their stay.

We utilized the kennel in October. I was not too happy. I have a boxer as well that weighs 80 lbs. and a Neo mastiff that weighs 145. They were unable to board them together. They only take them out 3 times. AM - Afternoon - Evening! You have the choice to take them out anytime in between. Everytime we went to visit and walk them - they both did #1 and #2 the minute we went outside. I did not find the area clean at all. They allowed me to go in the back and get them myself. It is worth the 21.00 per day - and you also have the option -to leave them there during the day while you are at the theme parks for about 16.00 or 18.00 dollars -that is a good option. You would have time to visit the parks and if you need to come back and get the dog - take back to the RV then go back for the night time events at the parks. It is worth the $$$, I am just use to my local Doggie Daycare facility. Also, they are supposed to be building a new state of the art kennel in the area for the vacationers. They are closing that one down sometime in Fall 2010.

So they've been saying, but AFAIK they haven't even broken ground on the new kennel yet. :confused3

Will they allow dogs in any of the cabins?

No.
No pets in cabins. Sorry.

...they are not even allowed in the cabin loops if I remember correctly.

You can go visit at the kennel and there is a grassy area near the building where you can walk/play with them (on leash - it's not fenced).

1/12/10) According to more than one source, the construction going on across from Port Orleans may be for a new Pet Kennel / Animal Care facility, which was apparently announced back in December 2007 and was to have opened summer 2009 but nothing ever came of it. According to one insider, this new facility may actually be intended to be a complete replacement for WDW’s other aging animal kennel facilities. If so, this may not be your typical dog kennel… it may actually feature high end pet grooming facilities and even some unique leisure activities for your furry friends, possibly including doggie wading pools.

they had to push off breaking ground for the new kennel. Imagine all of us WDW campers gettin ticked off because the dogs got a wading pool before they upgraded the meadow swimming pool.
