My in-laws are bringing their dog on our Thanksgiving trip to AKL. I know that there are kennels at all of the parks. While the one at AK would be closest, from what Disney tells me, the only one where they will walk the dog is at Epcot.

Has anyone ever tried to get their pet into Epcot and not been able to because it was full? I'm sure they're going to want to visit their dog, but it will be hard to combine going walk the dog with visits to other parks. Thanks for your help!

Never used the kennels, but I'm sure it will be a busy week and there is a possiblity it may be full. You might want to check into kennels outside WDW in the Orlando area.

It's my understanding that none of the kennels will walk your pet for you. They are first come, first served. I'm pretty sure that only some of them will keep your pet overnight, which is something else you might want to think about.

According to the Official Guide, none of the kennels provide dog walking during the day. It says all kennels do board pets overnight. There are no staffers on duty overnight, but you can access your pet by calling a number they provide.

Certain sites at Fort Wilderness do allow pets!

None of the kennels walk the dog for you, unless that is something very, very very new, but I highly doubt it.

It is a huge pain to bring your pet to disney. The kennels are fine...the attendants are very nice..but not professional pet people...that you would find at a regular kennel.

You have to walk your dog yourself twice a day. EPCOT has the best grassy area for walking your dog..maybe that is what they meant.

I would suggest your parents find a kennel close to home..or a dog sitter. At this late date it will probably be almost impossible.

We've boarded our dog twice at the kennel at the TTC. We were staying at the Contemporary and it was the best option. The staff was very nice. It was first come first serve, but we had no problem and it was Christmas week. You also get a discount if you're staying on Disney property.

Make sure you bring the record of the dogs shots.

I also heard they will walk your dog for you at the Epcot kennel now, but for an extra fee. I think it would be worth it,
not so much for the inconvience of having to go back and walk them yourself, but for the fact it was hard to have to put him back in the cage.

We were driving from Chicago to our home in south Florida, otherwise I never would have brought him.

Try calling the Disney kennel at Epcot directly. That way you'll know for sure.

Thanks for all of your replies. I'll certainly check into the many issues you have raised. I don't think this is the best place to keep a dog for three days, but it was not my decision. My in-laws are travelling for two weeks and want their dog with them for the rest of the trip instead of in a kennel for the entire trip. It sounds like either way is going to be difficult.

Thanks again!:D

There is always a lot misinformation on the Kennels at Disney. The staff at TTC has been there for over 25 years(a couple of them) and they even remember our dogs names. We always board ours there as it seems we are always going thru this area going park to park.

It only takes a few minutes to walk the dogs and then put them up.

Epcot does walk them for a fee.

They will need all shots with a record.

The kennels are clean and air conditioned but you need to clean out your own cages and they do recommend walking three times a day.
This did not seem to be a problem for us, we always figured if can wait in line for 1-2 hours. we could give the pets a few minutes.

We took our dog several years ago and thought it was a complete pain to have to go walk him ourselves. Not that we didn't want to see him, BUT it was hard to fit it in. And, after hours you had to buzz a security guard to come let you in.

However, now that I've heard Epcot will walk them and we now stay at YC/BC, maybe I'll consider it. I'm going to call to make positively sure the Epcot people will walk your dog.

One thing I would suggest asking is, if your dog should bite, nip at, or scratch the kennel attendant while being walked/handled, what is the policy? Some kennels require a ten day quarantine at the vets office, with all fees paid by the dogs owner, in the case of an incident.

That would make a huge different to me as far as having someone walk/handle my dog. Just food for thought.

Your inlaws might want to check out Bass Pet Motel, a local kennel in nearby Kissimmee. I have heard great things about this kennel.

another thing I forgot to tell you............
if they do decide to board their dog, bring a pet bed or a mat for him to lay on. The cages are solid fiberglass(or some material).
We didn't bring one, but had a blanket in our car that we left for our dog. A pet bed would have worked better.
Like becky1960 said, some of the staff at the TTC kennel has been
there a long time. One women in particular(wish I could remember her name) is so pesonable and nice. She remembered our family and our dog also.
