Would anybody recommend us going here on an excursion?

I was last there 18yrs ago!!! - It was alright, but disappointed me.

Just wondering if things have changed since then, which no doubt they have - but, is it worth the effort? or best to forget about the idea altogether?

we first went 10 years ago and i must admit i found it boring.
we went back again last august on my dd insistence and i thoroughly enjoyed it, getting on the buses and going to various places, like the launch pads etc it was a fantastic day out and we are going back again this July :)

We went last year and I enjoyed the experience and DH was in heaven as he viewed things he had heard about for years and was now seeing. It was an easy drive out there and we saw some more of Florida on the journey. A welcome break from the parks.

We went 2005 with DS5 and we had a great time and loved the tour on the bus around the buildings and all the rockets etc and the changes in suits the astronauts have worn over the years. The Astronauts Hall of Fame next door is wonderful too they have more items and articles of interest:thumbsup2 If you can go out to the viewing platform for the shuttle before a launch is due and it's on the pad you can get some good photos :thumbsup2

I went there a few years ago and thought that I would be bored rigid - I wasn't: I really enjoyed it and it was amazing to learn about the space programme, the innovations and the scarifices... truly amazing.

My only regret was maybe not doing one of their special in-depth programmes (we just had a regular day pass).

I would maybe be concerned about taking a young child there, but for adults and teens it is a great experience :)

We were there last October and enjoyed it. Don't think of it as another theme park though because it's more educational than entertaining and can be quite heavy-going at times. But definitely worth a visit and will be a trip to remember. If you're interested, here's a link to the page of my trip report about KSC - just skip past the initial guff to get to the Space Centre stuff!

Part I
Part II

We (me and DW) did it when we went many years ago (the Saturn V rocket was laying on a gravel bed next to the car park). Got much closer to the shuttle launch pads then.

Went when DS was 3 and he really enjoyed it, even if most of the space program was over his head. He's now 10 and has requested that we go back again, so we've planned it in when we go in August.

From when we went ages ago the biggest improvement was the building of the massive building that now houses the Saturn V rocket. You walk under it as it sits in sections on a frame off the ground (although my memory has it hanging from the ceiling).

Definately worth doing again.

We love Kennedy Space Centre. Dont go there an awful lot, maybe once every 6/8 years, but if you haven't been for a while, its certainly worth a trip. Check their website out.

Last time I went was 1989!!!!!
With my parents on a hot coach/bus trip from our hotel on I-drive.
I found it boring then - I think I probably complained the whole way round.
It's put me off going again and taking my daughter, but I probably should give it a go soon.

Not true. The Saturn V is displayed in it's component sections, or stages to use the correct terminology, and each stage is supported on it's own steel frame. It would be doubtful if there's a ceiling in existence which could take the weight of an entire Saturn V. I agree with your closing point though, it is definitely worth doing!

My teenagers (who don't get enthusiastic about many things) voted to go back for a second look as they felt they hadn't spent enough time in some of the exhibits on day 1. They also loved the bus trip around the site and still recite some of the facts and figures they picked up from the bus driver and the commentary whenever there is a news report about the space programme.

There is plenty to see so I don't think you would be bored.

We went a couple of weeks ago and had a wonderful day! We were first in and last out and still didn't see everything! We did the coach tour, 2 IMAX films and the Kids' Show, the rocket garden, the replica shuttle and a talk on current launch status. My boys are 8 and 5 and they found it all really interesting.

We got there quite early thinking there would be restaurants in the area for breakfast but we didn't find any! So have breakfast in Orlando before you set off!!
