We were thinking about visiting Kennedy Space Center on our vacation from Orlando. There is scheduled a rocket launch one of the days while we are in Orlando. Should we go that day or go to a beach to view the launch and then go back another day?

Also my kids are 11 and soon to be 8. The youngest is interested in science, but I am not sure if he is too young. He is advanced for his age.

Thanks,
Becky

Our kids have been several times and the first they were six and seven and loved it. We haven't been since 1998 and there was lot to do. I would go to the web site and see exactly what is going on there now so you could check there interest.

yes, you should go on that day. When we went in 2000 we got to see a shuttle launch and that same day we went to Kennedy. My DS was only 3 at the time and his favourite part of the trip was Kennedy.

We went to Kennedy Space Center many years ago. It was a lot of fun and wasn't really expensive, from what I remember. The day we were there we found out that they were doing a shuttle launch the next day. So, we decided to stay another day to see the launch. Well, they make you stay so far back from the launchpad that you really can't see anything!! All we could see is the little trail of smoke rising up in the air! It was so hot and miserable that day that it just really wasn't worth it to us. Although it is a great memory and we can say we saw the Columbia :( lift off. It is much better in retrospect than it was that day.

The launches are fun, but it is hot, there are often delays etc... We had special access to a great viewing area on top of a tall building and the view was great (We saw the launch with John Glenn,) but my kids would have been antsy.

It's a tough call whether to go that day and get involved in the crowds that are inevitably involved or go a different day and just enjoy the space center. We just took our kids on a non-launch day. Even then, they loved the main visitors center, but once we got on the bus tour, they quickly lost interest. They were maybe 8, 6 and almost 3 or something like that. A little too young really.
Yours are a better age.
