Looking to buy a new fridge. There is a new model Kenmore that is going on sale Sunday. We are very interested in this particular one.

One thing that I learned today is that not all Kenmore appliances are made by Whirlpool. This particular Kenmore Elite is made by LG. Not sure how long this has been going on. I have nothing against buying an LG brand. Actually, before finding this fridge, an LG model was in the top running, with Samsung running second.

I have never owned a Kenmore or LG kitchen appliance in my life. What are people's experiences with these brands???

We have an LG french door fridge right now. Bought it in January, when we bought our home, and we LOVE it!

Wow, you are fast!!!!!

We are ditching our old, water leaking, side by side. Never again. I love the layout of this new French door. Lots of room in the top, and plenty in the bottom!!!

Glad to hear you love yours. Hopefully in a week or two I will be luvin' mine also!!!

LOL Must have been perfect timing!

We really do love it, it is the smaller model, as the space we had was limited. The pull out freezer is great. We don't have the ice machine hooked up, as we haven't redone the kitchen yet, so I can't tell you about that!

OT, but do you have a link to Sunday's sale ad? I'll be looking for new appliances for our remodeled house - all of them. Yikes. It's so tempting to just order everything from one place, but I love the LG refrigerator (they have a 31 cf one at Home Depot) , GE profile stove/microwave above and Kitchen Aid dishwasher. All from different sources, of course. :confused3

I will plead with you till the ends of the earth to not buy a Kenmore product! Go onto Sears facebook page and see the millions of complaints about Kenmore products. We bought a Kenmore washer/dryer and its given us nothing but problems! Costing us more money to fix it than we did to buy it! Buy Maytag or another brand. Kenmore is not a trustworthy brand.

Aww--I've always loved my Kenmore products.

I have a Jenn-Air French door fridge that I don't love, mainly because the doors don't always close. We do have the door alarm, but it's on a delay and we've actually left the house with the door ajar.

My Mother loved Kenmore too but after awhile their products have gone downhill. She said they USED to be a great product.

Run far away from LG refrigerators!!! now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We got just about 2 yrs ago - purchased at the Sears outlet= french door LG Stainless steel-- awesome price.

13 months later it is no longer cooling in the refrigerator. spoke to LG- faxed them our receipt since it was 1 month out of warrenty (we did not purchase the extended sears warrenty). They told us it could take a wk for an answer if they would cover it. needless to say everything went into a cooler and the spare freezer. then next day they called back and said they would not extend the warrenty for us bc we had purchased it at the Sears outlet. Mind you nothing wrong other than a few scratches. We ended up unplugging it over night and it worked fine after that for a while. Every so often we would have to unplug it overnight to let the ice that was built up in the walls of the refrigerator melt. Big PIA. 5 months later- the electronic temp control goes out. Refrigerator part not cold at all and freezer is too cold. We dumped the contents into the cooler and the sub zero 3 season porch. (good thing it was 20 degrees out!!). Called out a service guy. It needed a new part== slipped my mind on what it is called -- get this it is a $600 part!!! Well what we saved by buying it at the outlet we just spent on a repair. To top it off-- LG is notorious for slow delivery of the part. We waited 3 wks for the part. We did manage to unplug and get it back up and running but it was getting old really fast.

they installed the new part w/ their warrenty on the part. Now we are finding that the freezer is not as cold as it should be. so I keep it up to a 5 setting were recommended is a 4.

We debated a new refrigerator but it would be $1000 more than the repair cost. plus would deminsions only an LG makes the one that fits in the best and biggest.

I love the french doors= no more looking down and in. Only DD8 doesn't like it bc she can't reach anything. It took DS 4 about 2 yrs to figure out and be strong enough to pull out the freezer part.

Now I do LOVE my LG front load washer. Best work horse about but I would soo stay away from their refrigerator. After we had our first experience -- looking on the internet reveiled alot more of their problems.

Good luck!

No, sorry, I don't have a link. It was the saleslady that looked up the upcoming sale. I think the one you are looking at at HD is basically the same one we are looking at Sears.

Here is a link to the one we like. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_04672053000P?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

OK, you guys bad stories have me a little jittery. Have to do some talking with the hubby. I do appreciate your feedback!!! TY!

I bought that refrigerator ten months ago. I loved the look of it and enjoyed it until the seventh month when the problems with the automatic ice maker began. The whole freezer began to become covered in ice. Customer service was a nightmare so we just defrosted it and disconnected the automatic ice maker. It is apparently a very common problem. I would definitely not recommend this model and wish I had done my research before buying it.

We bought a Kenmore french door refrigerator when we bought our house 3 years ago. We have really been pleased with it! It has so much more space than my parents' side by side does.

As far as Kenmore product reliability goes, my family has owned various Kenmore products for years (washers, dryers, fridges, etc.) and have found them to be very reliable.

Out of curiosity, I just checked Consumer Reports online, and every single Kenmore french door fridge is recommended. They have 2 different models in the top 5 overall rated french door refrigerators. Of course I'm not saying that no one will have a problem with them, but overall that sounds like good quality to me.

we bought our LG french door fridge in dec. '07 and in april '11 it wasn't cooling.

i had hubby call the place where we bought it and come to find out we bought the extended warranty.

it still took them a week to fix. we had just gone grocery shopping AND my $$$$ enbrel med's were in there. at midnight we were hauling everything to my mom's house.

the fridge can be a PITA to clean sometimes. otherwise, we like our fridge.

Both my friend and I bought Kenmore elite french door stainless steel fridges, the only one that was about 33" wide, ice maker/water dispenser, and we love them. I watched the price for about 6 months, and bought it when it was 30% off for about $1800.

I hated the freezer drawer as opposed to an above or side by side freezer. WAY too hard to organize, way too hard. I left mine in the old house and bought a side by side which I adore. We have an upright freezer and a drinks frig in the basement as back up. I really hated the freezer below and had two drawers instead of one.

See, that goes to show you how 2 people can see things differently. In the side by side, I feel that the shelves in the freezer are nothing but deep, dark, cubby holes:confused3. Can't see back in them well, light at top of freezer doesn't penetrate to lower shelves. I can see myself utilizing a bottom freezer much better!!!

I had an LG French door refrigerator in the house I sold 2 years ago. I loved it!!

In my next house I had a Maytag French door. The sealing mechanism broke while the house was up for sale. I owe the new owners a new mechanism. :headache:

I now have a fridge with a bottom freezer and a single refrigerator door. I think it's the best of both worlds.

My Mother loved Kenmore too but after awhile their products have gone downhill. She said they USED to be a great product.

Exactly the way we feel!
I will never (I know, never say never) give Sears another penny of my $ as long as I live!

Bought an LG French Door. After 2 years the ice maker crapped out. I googled the model number and found numerous complaints about it. And did I mention that you can't find a person who actually wants to work on an LG appliance? It is difficult for them to get parts. We finally found someone who would come out and he said they were bad fridges. Recommended complaining to Home Depot which is where we got it. We did and HD gave us a credit towards a new one. YMMV

We bought a Kenmore (made by LG) side by side in October, it replaced our 28 year old Montgomery Wards Side by Side. So far so good. We also have a Kenmore Microwave (made by LG), 3 years old now, again so far, so good.

My wife and I were never were Sears fans, but my FIL was. Everything he owned was Sears or Kenmore brand. Washer, dryer, fridge, freeze, yard equipment, even a Sears TV. He never had many problems, but the reason he loved Sears was you could always get parts, no matter hold old an item is.
For us, we've been drawn to Sears for major applances because their sale prices are good, and because the have them in stock. HD, Lowes, Best Buy all needed 10 days to 2 weeks to order an item. Sear, you could load it in your truck, or have it delivered, usually the next day.

Certainly, some companies experience increases and declines in quality. Maytag used to unbeatable, now, not so much. LQ changed their name to LQ because they got such a bad reputation when they were known as Goldstar. The name change brought a huge jump in quality. Hyundai is one of the better cars you can buy now, but you have my sympathies if you bought a Hyundai in around 1988. And we all know about Toyota's recent nightmares.....compounded by the fact that the higher ups in Japan ignored warnings from mangers in the U.S. who started noticing problems before everything went public.
