I live in Ga and I am looking to buy a used SUV. Found two in Atlanta I really like, from two different dealerships. The odd thing is that both are listed on KelleyBlueBook.com for around 1,000 less that what they are listed on their websites. Wonder what gives?

Kelly blue book doesn't list actual prices....only suggested values based on a compilation of factors. The actual price of vehicles may start with blue book, but be adjusted up or down based on vehicle condition and mileage.

Blue book is meant to be a guide.

Try nada guide as well!

I have never found kbb to be helpful. Try nada and true car. And just asking the dealer nicely :-)

I would expect most dealers to come down $1,000 on a used car, so they are just pricing the car with room for them to negotiate down the price to what it is really worth.
That's why I don't like CarMax. They are about $2,000 more than most of their cars are worth, and they are no haggle.

I bought a couple of used Hertz rental cars direct from Hertz because the one's Hertz keeps to sell are the lower mileage ones. They wholesale the higher mileage ones. Darned if I didn't find several former Hertz cars at CarMax. Exact same cars, but with 20,000 more miles on them, and the price was $2,000 more.

My son used to work at CarMax. He said that they and other dealerships do not use Kelly. They use other resources to price cars.

Well the price that were listed on them was not what their value of them was, but like an advertised selling price. There was a place that said print, so I was wondering if that was like a sale price if you found it and brought it in. But if you had no idea it was there you just had to pay or start with the pricing at the dealership.

What gives is that they realize that smart buyers will research the price of the car and try to get the best price they can. While some folks unfortunately just go in blind and get "sold" the price the dealer wants so they get the higher profit.
