I'm looking at buying either a refurbished lens from Adorama or a used lens from KEH. I see that KEH has the same lens listed several times for different prices. Does that mean that they individually price each used lens? So, if one lens is listed at 500, and another lens at 525, the 525 lens is in a little better shape?

At KEH look at what comes with the lens. Sometimes it's with no caps, sometimes it's with caps, sometimes it's caps and a hood... etc. Also look at the different specific version designations (if there is one). Sometimes one version may sell for more than another. That doesn't mean it's necessarily a better lens, just that the secondary market value is higher. Look at the LN, EX, BGN, UG designation for the condition of the lens.

As Photo Chick said-the big difference is in the "grade" the lenses get, and if anything comes with it. The better the condition, the higher the price. I and a friend have shopped with them before and had no problems with them. I would also take a look at B&H Photo Video, and even Ebay. I scored a big lens that was hardly used for less than half retail on Ebay.

There's a big difference between refurbished & used gear. Used gear is usually bought in / traded in from members of the public. Refurbished items are delivered to retailers directly by the manufacturer who carried out the refurbishment so they've all been restored to the exact manufacturer specifications and generally come with a good warranty

You'll see that both Adorama & KEH grade their used gear depending on condition; I don't know about KEH but Adorama warranties most of their used gear for 6 months & gives you 30 days to return it if you just don't like it!

I've never had an issue with KEH. Every lens that I've purchased (including the 2 last week) have been BGN grade lenses and have worked great. They actually test and inspect the lenses they sale unlike B&H. KEH has a 14 day "No Hassle" policy and a 6 month warranty against defects.
