Hi, I have just booked a couple of nights in December :cool1::cool1: and am looking for your best tips on how to keep warm in the parks.

Thanks Jo

Thermal underwear, lots of layers, waterproof outerlayer, hand and foot warmers and plenty of hot drink stops. :goodvibes

Earmuffs, scarves, gloves, thick coats with thick jumpers and really thick socks.
And plenty of hot drinks. :goodvibes

Hi thanks for that I have been trying to work out how many layers we can possibly get on and still fit in our coats!:rotfl2: About the thermal underwear, does it make a real difference? I don't want to spend the money to buy some unless it does the job.

Thanks Jo

Thermals do make a difference, they made our Jan trip seem quite pleasant. lol
and I packed some last week to wear at MNSSHP but we ended up wearing them most of the time.
The disposable hand warmers too are really good, "Hotties" from Ebay are the ones I found best, did have foot ones from Home Bargains but they weren't so good, but really cheap and thin enough so that you didn't notice them inside your shoes. :)

lots of thinner layers are better than one thick one
eg : base layer / thermal top ,then leggings ( or thermal bottoms ) and long sleeved t shirt, then thicker layers eg fleece and jeans or ski trousers
then coat on top

and of course scarf,gloves,hat etc!

handwarmers are fab!
also found thermal ski / welly socks good,as once my feet are cold i feel cold all over so hate having cold feet!

don't underestimate how cold it is going to be! always better to be too warm as you can take a layer off,but if cold you will be miserable and not be able to get warm again and that's not nice :(

I'm going with the lots of layers option in December! When I did the DofE in school our teacher always used to shout at people for packing a big jumper, as lots of t-shirts/thinner jumpers layered up were more effective at keeping you warm. I've purchased thermal vests, and I'm packing the waterproof trousers, just in case! Also invested in thermal welly socks which look very cosy.

Hi, thanks for all the advice. I think I am definately going to get some thermal underwear. They have some quite nice sets on the marks and spencer website that seem quite reasonable for the girls.
I think I can probably get 4 or maybe 5 layers to fit under their coats so I will probably end up with more luggage for 2 days than we had in June for 5!:rotfl2:

noticed that peacocks have ladies thermals in store at the moment, i got ours from asda.
theres lots of carts selling hot drinks dotted around the park and you can just buy a coffee from the counter service restaurants. you may find that you are given vouchers for free drinks with purchases from shops and restaurants made in the morning, which can be used the same afternoon. we had lots of them in january. :)

after paying 4 euros for a hot choc when we went in dec :eek:we started to bring our own flasks and those little cups with coffee / hot choc in

you can get them in the pound shops, or they are 99p in Home bargains and probable B&M too

Thanks that's a great idea. We will be taking a travel kettle with us so I might add a flask to the list. :goodvibes
