How do you keep warm in a tent. If it is under 70 I am freezing and we have decided to come to the fort and we have to camp in a tent. We will be there from Dec 6-14. I am cold just thinking about it. If you use a heater, which one would heat a tent that is at least 16x16. Thanks.

Use ceramic heaters...less chance of a fire. (air mattress:electric blanket:fitted sheet:you:regular blanket......in that order)...you'll probably turn the ceramic heater off halfway through the night, heat rises from your electric blanket warming you, and the blanket your covering with....you'll be quite cozy. Don't be skeered!!

If I remember correctly, you have a Coleman Red Canyon, right? That Red Canyon is HUUUUUUUUUGE. I can't imagine one heater keeping things warm in that thing.

Technically, you're not supposed to sleep with heaters on in a tent, but plenty of people do it to no negative consequence. Personally, we're uncomfortable with the idea of heaters in the tent. We're tenting around the time you are and we're going with the old fashioned methods of keeping warm. (We're Chicagoans whose heat has gone out a few times, so we know how to keep warm in chillier conditions.)

Get yourself a pair of Cuddleduds. They are the warmest things you'll ever sleep in. They are sold at Target under another name, but you'll see the Cuddleduds name on the bottom. You wear them under whatever you'll be sleeping in. They are like a second skin, really thin, and you don't feel bulky at all. I wear mine all the time under my clothes.

Good tips can be found here:

I've checked the weather for that time and it looks pretty reasonable. Take lots of blankets and cuddle!

Hey Kim, I just plugged in my dates (which overlap yours) and full-hookups are available. They weren't yesterday, but they are today. We were considering switching to a preferred to be closer to things, but I don't think we will afterall. Anyway, I don't know if you actually wanted preferred, just thought I'd let you know it is available now.

Kim, I'm losing my mind! I should have noted that there are TENT sites available. You already have a full. :) Anyway, I plugged in your dates earlier and saw tent sites as well as full. I don't know if you even want to switch. :)

HTH!

Electric Mattress Pad, Electric Blanket is what I use in my tent.

Do NOT close up the tent tight at night. Leave some airflow going or else you will freeze yourself in your own moisture.

Open up all the screens as wide as possible during the day and use a fan to dry things out.

I THOUGHT VIRGINIA BEACH WAS FOR LOVERS.

DO WE NEED TO DRAW YOU SOME PICTURES???:rotfl2:
Seriously, we were there last year at the same time during a cold front(it was 18degrees in lower No.Carolina on the trip down).I gave up my bed in the trailer for my youngest, and slept in the tent(12x10 high dome). I couldn't believe how warm it stayed just from body heat alone, no heaters or electric blankets.
You'll be fine.:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Mike, booking for Dec.6-14 next year!

just a case of these babies, and you'll be warm.

We use a little electric heater in our tent. It's electric, so no fumes. And, it automatically shuts off if it tips over. So perfectly safe! :) This is like the one we use:

We thought about tent camping when its chilly and dropping the little heater into a milk crate and feeding the cord out the holes to just give a little added seccurity that nothing cloth would come into contact with the heating elements.
Never got the chance to go, but it was a thought:)

Thats a pretty nifty little extra added step of safety.

The question may be moot as the forcast for next week shows moderate nights and warm days.

We tent camp and we take a small electric heater also. We keep it on all the time (It has a thermostat so it shuts down during the day). My wife also thinks it is too cold if the temp is below 70 and she says she is comfortable.

The real trick to staying warm is to stay off of the ground. You have to have an air mattress of some time. Sleep with a heavy blanket below and above and you will be fine.

You may want to go to the closest sporting goods store and buy a chemical hand warmer. They cost about $1 each and last about 12 hours. Shake them up, put them in your socks and you won't have any cold problems.

I was camping in 30 deg weather a few weeks ago without a heater. It was a little less comfortable, but, managable. I had a hand warmer in my socks!

I have been to the store looking at heaters, but the one problem is the fan speed. The ones I have looked at do not have a good high fan setting. I need to heat a huge. Any ideas on which heater to get? Thanks.

This thread is acting oddly. I got a notice that there was a new message posted, but there is no new message.

Kim, I my brain has been fried lately. I realized that I was mixing up preferred and full. It's been a long week. Hope you find what you're looking for!

We have 17x7 with a 5x17 screen porch. Our little heater keeps it toasty (except for the screen porch).
