Do you realize how much you have to use your phone in order to hit the data limits? If you are just a casual user (i.e. not using it for business), you're not going to hit the minimum data limits. I'm a casual user and think I'm on my phone a lot and I never even get near 1 gig, let alone the 2 gig limit. I have unlimited, but my DH bought his iphone after unlimited went away and he was worried about data. That's when the salesperson told us it's hard to hit the limit for a personal user. At my max in the last six months, I hit 1.25gb and that was over Spring Break when I was using it all day long and had to use my trent to keep it charged during the day.
Should be interesting to see what they do with the new iphone and the 4g. They have 4g droids right now and they didn't change plans for them (beyond getting rid of unlimited). Hopefully they won't mess with it when they release the iphone.
It depends upon how you use your phone. If you are just surfing the web, checking e-mail, etc. it's not a problem. But if you use your phone to stream Pandora, and/or videos it's a big problem! I have gone over 4g's in a month on several occasions (it's not that hard). For example, I found these figures on another website for streaming Netflix.
"Netflix Movies (HD): These guys are around 3.8Mbit, which means it's about 3600MB for a 2 hour HD movie.
Netflix Movies (SD): Each of these movies are around 500-700MB each, depending on the length of the movie.
Netflix TV Shows (HD): A 30-minute TV show will be about 1500MB.
Netflix TV Shows (SD): A 30-minute TV show will be about 400MB."
As you can see, two 30 minute TV shows in HD will easily put you over the 2GB cap. This will limit the functionality of my smart phone (cripple). In fact, if I lived in an area that was served by other carriers, I would be gone in a heartbeat.
Personally, I think that $30 per month per person in a family plus $30 a month per phone to tether (if you do what Verizon wants) is a big ripoff to begin with, then limiting the data to only 2g's a month is just outrageous!
