Keeping Navigator App open

I have a compulsive habit of swiping out all apps on my iPhone when I’m done with them. I know they say you don’t need to do this anymore but old habits die hard! So, my problem is when on the ship if I accidentally close the Navigator App I can’t receive messages. Does anyone know any way of disabling the swipe close on iPhone or any other advice? Thanks!

can anyone verify what I think is true: you can go into your “settings” on your phone and to your list of apps, select the navigator app, and select that you’d like notifications to be delivered at all times. If I’m correct and my memory serves me correct, you should receive a “pop up” when you get a message regardless of whether the app is opened or closed.

That is how it’s supposed to work, yes. However, the Navigator app has Never been great at sending chat notifications. (It does ok with event reminders.) I always end up opening it and checking regularly especially if I am expecting a message from someone.

Agree that using messages on an Apple product works just fine on board without needing a WiFi package.

As to the OP's question about closing the app, sorry but there is no way to keep it from closing when you do the swipe-up action.

Thanks everyone. I will practice keeping the app open 😂. As far as iMessage is concerned I’ve read conflicting reports about whether or not that is an option. If iMessage will work on the Wish that would be amazing!

It works on all the other ships. You just connect to the wifi, which you have to do anyways to use the app. Make sure you don't have a VPN turned on too. I would be very surprised if the Wish was different. We could even talk to people off the ship when on the Magic in Europe. It's how the cast members keep in touch with loved ones.

It’s bizarre - I was able to send imessages back and forth to my father and brother (we all traveled together) but not to my husband or mother in law. We couldn’t figure it out . The navigator app seemed to work unless the wifi dropped (happened a handful of times).

It does work. We did it on the Wish MV.

iMessage worked on the Wish for me during the DVC Charter (July 19-22) without purchasing an internet package.

This past cruise (end of May) on the Fantasy was my 7th and it was the FIRST cruise that actually gave me notifications when I had messages! I was so surprised! So it might just be working better now. I can't leave apps open either...I always close them. (iMessage worked that whole cruise also)
