Keeping in contact

Hi

We will be traveling to Disney next month with my brother-in-law and his family. There will be 11 in total, and of varying ages. In order for everyone to do and see the things they want, chances are we will be splitting up in the parks. I'm figuring if we need to get in touch, we can use our cell phones. Has anyone had a problem with cell phones working at Disney? I know that sometimes when there are many people in one area with lots of cell phones, calls can get lost easily, busy signals, can't get through, etc. Anyone have any problems?

Well, I have never been to Disney, but where are you from?? What are the cell phone charges going to be if you are calling each other. My roaming charges in Florida would eat up my whole vacation budget. We are planning on purchasing some radios for use in the parks. There are 11 of us also and we will be splitting up.

I'm in VA. Chances are there will be some roaming charges involved. But I was thinking of using the phones for keeping in touch if we can't meet up at a scheduled time, etc. not just to say,"Where are you now, when do you want to meet, are you hungry for lunch?"

I thought about the two-way radios, but I've heard that with the crowds, they don't always work either or you get a lot of other peoples conversations. I guess either way has it's good and bad.

The only area I had lots of trouble with my cell phone was in the area around Splash and Big Thunder - it kept trying to roam between the two carriers and was very annoying

As for radios, mixed results - I think if you use the cell phones for fast and direct conversation, the costs should not blow you out of the water

Don't know who your service is with but we have sprint Nationwide service. We never roam at disney but we do lose signals in some rides like space mt. If you have nationwide service you cost shouldn't be too high. I think cells are better to use than radios, too many people can hear your conversations on radios. Depending on the person you are talking to is an adult or teen it could be a saftey concern.
