I bought cheap plastic ponchos on eBay for this ride.:sail: How do you keep your feet dry? Will they allow you to put your feet up on the seats under your poncho? I hate carrying 8 pairs of flip flops/plastic shoes around the park all day.
Suggestions?

ther's a buckeet in the middle to put damagable equipment into. they used to let u put your shoes in and now they have a NO SHOES OFF rule- though people still break it.
Honestly though- this word is SO not worth it IMO. the ONLY reason to go on this is if you're hot and wanna cool off.
It's boring and non eventful adn VERY short. you keep waiting for something fun to happen- and then nothing.
I wouldn't waste my time again on it. unless i wanted to g et soaked!

But ponchos are GREAT to have anyways, for the rain

Sorry....I couldn't resist. For us the best thing about Kali River Rapids is this....."Will I get drenched or just soaked?"

Personally, I feel the ride can get rather bumpy and spinny and it would not be safe to have your feet up. The Ponchos will work very well for everything except for heads and feet. Your bodies should stay pretty dry. There is a dry bin in the center of the ride for belongings. Water does seep in there, but not as much as if you held the stuff! There may be room for shoes in there or on your lap under your poncho.

This is a wonderful ride - ONE OF OUR FAVORITES!!! If you are visiting during one of Florida's 9 or 10 "summer" months your top and bottom should dry very quickly! :rotfl:

We are crocs wearers and they always dry very quickly. If they are not drying quickly enough you can use a paper towel or even a hand dryer to dry the water right up. These shoes are great for KRR. (FYI: you'll find hand dryers in the restrooms near the exit to KRR - there will be tons of soaked people in there using the hand dryers to dry their clothes :rotfl2: )

Have fun!!!!:woohoo:

My family LOVES Kali River Rapids. We just wear comfy shoes...ei crocs or good quality flip flops...on the day we go to AK. Shoes sometimes get a little wet on SM too. Mine got soaked in 2007 when I rode in the front of the log. Luckily we were staying at WL and I just hopped the boat back to our room to change my shoes!! Nothing ruins the day more than sore feet, and wet shoes will sure bring on sore feet!!

I happen to enjoy Kali alot and I do not enjoy getting wet at all. I carry and wear a large blue poncho (DH calls me a smurf) that is great. The little dollar store ponchos don't cut it. I have an adult size one I got at Target that was maybe $4-5. Make sure you wear it with the hood up, otherwise water will likely go straight down your back; likewise, pull up the bottom side (that you're sitting on) and have it on top of your lap. I like to wear sneakers in the park and I take them off and hold them underneath my poncho. Yes I get some odd looks and head shakes, but I still enjoy get to enjoy the ride without paying for it the rest of the day.

A couple of ideas for you as I realize that although part of ride is in the getting wet, sometimes there are reasons that a person either cannot or chooses not to do so:

1) Try putting your feet on the raised area in front of you (not the enclosure for bags but the small bar just a bit above the floor.

2) Carry some small plastic bags with you (Wal-Mart, Target, etc.) and slip them over your shoes just after sitting down.

Don't let anything keep you from the magic!

Thanks Ladies, Good Suggestions!
I disliked walking around with wet clothes sticking to me as a kid and even more so as an adult.
I appreciate your answers:wave2:

I bring extra clothes and change in the bathroom at the exit of the ride. No kidding. Walking around in sopping wet shorts enough times taught me that I'd rather bring a plastic bag and a backpack to carry my wet clothes around for the rest of the day (you'd have to carry your poncho around, so how much more space does a pair of shorts and a t-shirt take up?).

Also, I wear crocs flip flops, which dry off pretty quickly.

There are 8 of you.... there's a HUGE chance that someone will get drenched in your party. I wore a poncho once because I didn't have time to run back to the resort before dinner to change and I of course, was the one to be on the bottom of the big dip.

I had to go back to change... lol.

There are always a good 2-5 people that will be soaked from head to toe, even with a poncho. They are only good when the people on the bridge squirt at you but if your bum is already wet...

Like others say, bring a change of clothes. I often wear lightweight nylon shorts that dry in about 5 minutes and a lightweight shirt. I'm ok wearing flip flops all day, my feet can take it but sometimes I wear sneakers. I have Nike Free shoes that also dry quickly. For me, on AK days I will now book dinners a little later or make sure they're not signature restaurants.

I really enjoy this ride but I do not like walking around a park soaking wet with sopping wet shoes and socks. It just feels gross. My feet/legs need the support of good running/walking shoes all the time -- flip flops, Crocs, and sandals only cause me serious foot, knee, and lower back pain. And I don't care how hot it is outside, it's never "refreshing" to me to walk around soaking wet from head to toe (a little splash is refreshing, a drenching is not). I don't play the part of a pack mule while we're on vacation, so we travel light. I carry a very small bag (about the size of a fanny pack) and that's it. If something doesn't fit in the bag, it stays in the room (BTW, we've never had to return to our room for anything that didn't fit in my bag). No change of clothing in our bag for anyone.

I do what PP's have mentioned. I wear a poncho with the hood up on the ride to prevent my hair and clothing from being drenched. And as far as my feet, I do what the above PP does. I cover my shoes with a plastic bag and put my feet up on that bar in the middle. It works very well for me. Sometimes my socks get a little wet if the bag slips, but at least my shoes and sock are not drenched. Much easier than carrying around a change of clothing in a back pack or trying to squeeze all the water out of my clothing and dry them in front of a hand dryer in a bathroom.

I don't care how crazy I look (my kids always get a good laugh at me when we go on that ride), I prefer to do what I need to in order to have an enjoyable experience. If people enjoy walking around in soaked clothing and soggy shoes for the rest of the day, that's fine with me because it doesn't affect me in any way (unless I have to sit next to them on some other attraction or on the bus back to the resort :) )

If you don't like getting drenched I wouldn't ride Kali. I have ridden and not gotten a drop on me other times your are completely drenched head to toe. It all depends on what position you are when the raft goes down the hill. If you are at the part of the raft that hits the wall of water first the water comes from behind you over your head and down your back/sides there is nothing you can do to stop from getting completely soaked. If you are on the upstream side of the raft you may stay completely dry. It is really sort of a crapshoot where you end up when the raft goes down the hills.

I love Kali, but I refuse to wear any sort of rain poncho on a water ride, IMO it kinda defeats the purpose of riding.

This is a sincere question with no offense intended but I have to ask...

Why would you want to ride KRR if you didn't want to get wet? :confused3

I'm not crazy about getting soaking wet either, but since there aren't alot of rides I can do (I HATE roller coaster / super-duper thrill rides), I'm taking Kali for all its worth! :rotfl:

I'm going to bring a poncho, plastic bag and an extra pair of socks and hope for the best!

We must have been made from the same mold. We should ride together.:rotfl2:

I don't like the ride. If I ride it, I don't cover myself in plastic. Whenever I go, it's always hot enough to where I can get myself wet. Grizzly River Run in DCA is so much better!

My family rode it for the first time last May. It was our last ride before we left AK. We didn't realize how drenched we would get, so this was just a coincidence. We all looked like drowned rats walking out of the park, but we were laughing the whole way out of the park. I would do it again, as long as it was warm that is and the last ride was good timing.

I don't really love this ride, but I've ridden it enough times to realize if you sit directly across from the heaviest end, you won't get as wet. Maybe it's just me, but whenever I'm on this ride the heaviest pair is the one going backward, and getting flooded, down the drop.
