Keeping Big Clothes

I was getting thing ready to donate to Goodwill and decided to keep a couple of pieces of my Big Clothes. I kept my big suit with the 52" waist, one of my 4X pull over shirt, and I still have my original 4X coat (I just bought a new XL winter coat to replace it). Did anyone else here keep some of their big clothes to remind themselves where they started?

You bet! I've been sorting through and donating my clothes every six months, both to clean out my closet and to make sure I don't keep a "safety net" - I'm never going back to those sizes, but getting rid of the clothes brings the point home. ;)

But I definitely kept some of the biggest clothes as a reminder, and for those "pulling out the pants from your new skinny waist" pictures. :p In fact, I went to a lot of effort to choose the right clothes - specifically, non-stretch pieces, so they would more accurately reflect my starting size. I also chose clothes that fit me well at that size, nothing too oversized. Anyway, I chose to save one pair of size 28 khakis (non-stretch) and the shirt from what I've chosen to be my "official" before picture:

I haven't tried them on in a while, but I imagine they'll be fun for some great "goal" pictures - when I finally get there!

Oh Yes! I have a pair of size 20 shorts and a size 20 shirt that I still put on every once in a while and marvel at how far I've come. Especially on days when I feel I still have a long way to go. ::yes:: Everything else I have donated though so I'm not tempted to get too comfortable and fit in them again. :) Congratulations on your progress!

I see the point there with holding on to see how much you have accomplished but my instinct was to say
no way!
I got rid of it all! For me, I feel that if I have something like that laying around, I may allow myself to let go again.
May sound dumb but, honestly, I think that may be how I got heavy to begin with! I had four kids in 8 years. So....
when I wasnt in maternity clothes in between kids, I wore sweat, loose fitting clothes etc, and before Iknew it I was prego again! So for at least 8 years, i had big cloth, clothes that one size fit all kind of stuff, no sense of measurement for years and before I knew it ! BAM!

anyway all my clothes now are form fitting, once they start getting tight! I get into action!

however, I do understand wanting to keep the proof!

Personally I am getting rid of all my "big clothes" I lost 50 pounds a few years ago and got rid of my big clothes.. once I lost that weight I stopped trying.. so now I am starting from where I left off.. Luckily I only put back on around 5 of the 50 I lost..

WHen I first read the title my thought was - GET RID OF THEM NOW! I do see your point about having a reminder, but I wouldn't keep too many. I got rid of ALL my clothes and when I gained this 20 pounds I had no choice but to loose weight again. A lot of my clothes dont' fit right now, but I know they will soon. It really made me wake up when they got too tight. It was the best thing I did. I just wish they would get tight at 10lbs over and not 20. 10 would be much easier to deal with.

I really struggled with what to do with my big clothes. It was only recently that I let them go and it was by accident. My closet was busting at the seams with all my old stuff as I tried to squeeze in the new stuff I was buying. DH coaxed me into getting rid of them. But I could only do it in stages. I packed most items up and one day when I wasn't home DH snuck and took them to goodwill. I'll be honest that I was wasn't ready to see them go but in the long run, I'm glad he did it. I can wear size 12's now and there is no way no how I can fit size 26/28 anymore but it was hard.

I did keep my biggest jeans (size 26) and one of my largest shirts (size 22/24) and every once in a while I'll put them on to remind me how far I have come and I'm just amazed that those jeans used to be tight on my tummy and the shirt used to hug me. It's nice to have a "this is where I came from but I'm never going back" outfit.

Congratulations on your wonderful progress!

I subscribe to the Dr. Phil philosophy of getting rid of things as soon as they're too big, so I didn't intentionally keep anything. However, I was recently cleaning out my closet shelf and found some old t-shirts I used to bum around in. I tried one on and it's literally long enough now to be a nightshirt (not to mention HUGE). I'm not even going to use them for that, though. I didn't work this hard to hide myself in big oversized t-shirts!

I saved my biggest pair of jeans, a size 26, and I put them on every now again just to remind me of what I have accomplished so far. They fall right off of me now so it feels great!
