Does Disney have any way in which guest can keep a eye on thier room charges other than calling and speaking to someone?

I was thinking I had seen at one point where you could see your room tab on the TV in your room, but I wasn't sure.

I have never heard of anyone calling at Disney. Who would you call?
It is not on the resort TV.
We stay Deluxe & stop every few days at the Concierge Desk and get a printout.

If there is another way besides stopping by the desk, I'd love to know about it! I've learned to check, I've been the victim of an error a time or two.

This is why I use gift cards. I buy Disney gift cards at Target and get them at a discount with my Redcard. Then I consolidate them on the gift card website. Then I use the gift card rather than charging things to my room. I know exactly what I have spent because I get a receipt with the remaining balance on my gift card. Yes, it's a little less convenient, but I have already budgeted and paid for my GC and so there are no surprises!

Rather than juggling gift cards for every single one of your purchases, wouldn't it be easier just to use your magic band and review your single, printed folio once a day? Nothing prevents you from paying your folio down with gift cards. Nothing prevents a wonky charge happening either, no matter what method you use to pay for it. But it's a lot easier to get your folio credited for a wonky charge then it is for a one-off purchase to be made whole--because your folio can be adjusted at the front desk. Your one-off purchase can't necessarily.

I always carry a backup payment with me. I can't tell you how many times my band would not work for a purchase in stores and restaurants. Sometimes I just don't feel like dealing with that extra step of going to the front desk to make a payment on my account. I'd rather park my car and go straight to my room.

I agree with Bree (see below quote). I only carry one gift card, so not much juggling going on. In real life I have to use some form of payment, so using a gc rather than my mb isn't too much trouble. I just prefer knowing exactly what I paid for each transaction. I don't run a tab when I'm on vacation at a resort, either. I prefer settling up rather than trying to remember exactly what I purchased at the end of the day or week.

I much prefer not having to deal with front desk to "settle up". If you read about what happened in the park yesterday (I believe) then you definitely need to carry other forms of payment. They had computer issues and MBs weren't working for anything. I also tend to carry a bit of cash also as back-up! I can carry a gc, an ID and a few bills and still be bagless in the parks, so I'm happy!

Keep your receipts and compare them to the printout at checkout. You can go to front desk and have them correct any issues. They did that for me. If you are leaving early in am, stop by desk night before. Not worth it to check everyday since they don't charge your card til you hit your limit.

Yes true, but if like me you eat a lot of meals out you can hit your limit pretty quickly. And even quicker when they bill you for not only your meal at Le Ceiller, but someone else's too. Caught that error pretty darned fast!

Oh no!! Glad you caught that. My errors have been minimal, not more than $20 each time. I guess if the OP feels they'll be spending a lot, then it'd be worth checking it more often.

Not always true. We've stayed at AoA three times and they've always put the charges through at about 70-75% of the limit. The charging limit at the Value Resorts is $1500, but at AoA, they've always put it through at about $1100. With 8 people and no dining plan, we hit that threshold more than once during our stays.

Agreed! We always stay at the moderate level resorts and during our last 2 trips our folio charges were put through day 3 or 4 of a 7 night stay. We were only at half way of our charging limit when this occurred. It wasn't an issue for us - just something we noticed - but it could be an issue for someone looking to change their payment method and thinking the charges wouldn't be put through until the actual limit was reached.

I guess I don't spend enough to have them charge me before checkout! But like I said in a PP, if the OP feels they'll be spending a lot of $$ it may be worth it to them to check more often (maybe every 2-3 nights?)

Yes, if someone plans to use gift card to pay down their room charges, I'd definitely recommend going to the front desk early in their stay and paying down the balance. If the charges have already been put through to the credit card, the front desk CMs can always reverse the charges and then use the gift cards to pay down the balance before putting the charge through again, but it's easiest to pay it down before the charge goes through.

Hmmm, now I'm wondering if they just automatically put through the charges through every 3 or 4 days on 7+ day stays regardless of the balance. The first time our charges were put through earlier than I expected, I asked a CM why the charge had been put through before hitting the limit and she told me they ran reports twice a day and any guest who was close to their limit would have their credit card charged so that their room charge limit would be back to zero and there wouldn't be any chance of them hitting their limit while they were out and about at the parks. Maybe they've just found it easier to put the charges through at day 3 or 4 regardless of how close they are to the limit.

I was thinking I had seen at one point where you could see your room tab on the TV in your room, but I wasn't sure.

On DCL cruises you can see it on your stateroom tv, but not when at WDW. I usually stop at the front desk to get a copy when I want to review. I would not call tho.

Couple years ago I did a survey and it asked if I would be interested in an interactive tv, with keyboard, that allowed me to check my account and use my MDE on it. Alas ..... it has not happened to date.

This last trip I just opted to not charge to my room ............. guess what, I saved a bunch of money. Pulling out cash or CC makes you think about it, MagicBand ... not so much.

No, charging your magic band & reviewing the printed folio once a day is not easier. Carrying a gift card is not a burden, & your receipt prints out your remaining balance with every single transaction. And if you should happen to lose your gift card they'll replace it along with your full remaining balance. We also prefer to pay with a gift card - easy breezy & never any "surprise" charges.

In your own words, you said it's less convenient. But if it works for you, that's terrific.
