Keep Knowing & Keep Kicking, Kiddo – A 2015 Princess 5K PTR/Mini-TR ~ Completed 5/1

I like your reminder!

Maybe you can get a turtle temporary tattoo and use that as your visual? Put it on the back of your hand or something.

Thanks!

A temporary tattoo would probably bug me ... it could fade or peel off. Plus, I wear gloves when I run, so I wouldn't be able to see it. But that's not a bad idea.
Actually ... I could probably get some sort of turtle patch and sew it to my glove ... that might work.

DisneyBound Ideas

Well, I’m getting light headed from writing cover letters (seriously … job searching sucks), so I figured I’d switch over to something else. So, here it is … an overview of what I’m thinking in terms of DisneyBounds. Last trip I did DBs every day, but this trip I think I’m only doing a few.

I’m trying not to any clothing (other than race stuff, which comes out of my athletic spending budget), just accessories, so a lot of it won’t be perfect.
So far most of my planned DisneyBounds use the same skirt … which is the one weekday skirt that I know I’m bringing with me (this will be this skirt’s 4th Disney World trip – and it’s been to Disneyland once). Once I decide what other weekday skirt(s) I’m bringing, it’ll be easier to work on DisneyBounds (I know what skirt I’m bringing for Shabbos, but I don’t want to wear that skirt to the parks).
Before we get to anything else, the denim skirt on its first Disney trip:
198044_535782086767_7280090_n.jpg

This is my favorite skirt, I wear it at least twice a week (and I used to run in it – but now that it’s cold and I wear a vest with zipper pockets, I wear a different skirt when running) and it is irreplaceable. I know because it’s starting to fall apart and I’ve been trying to replace it for over a year.

Also, I’m currently planning to bring 3 pairs of shoes: White/Black/Purple Asics (running shoes, but I wear them as everyday shoes), Blue Chuck Taylors, Black flats (my Shabbos flats, so I likely won’t wear them to the parks). I’ll try to remember to include shoes in outfit planning.

Thursday – Probably no DisneyBound; may wear my Minnie Mouse t-shirt:
Day412.jpg

Friday – Friday will have 3 outfits – race outfit, park outfit, and Shabbos outfit
Race: Anna – Blue leggings, blue or denim skirt, black t-shirt, possibly blue/green shirt (I don’t have a blue running shirt), possibly purple/magenta/fuschia jacket (there is some disagreement between me and my mom on the color of Anna’s cape), purple headband – a lot of this depends on the weather forecast. As of right now, I’m expecting it to be somewhere in the high 50’s to low 60’s, in which case it would be either long sleeve shirt, no jacket, or short sleeve shirt & jacket, but that’s a guess.
One of the jackets I’m looking at:
1733461_Inari

The other jacket I’m looking at is an Asics jacket and is a little too pink. And has thumbholes, which I hate.

Park: Either Fix-It Felix or Woody – I wanted to do a Pixar character because there’s a lot of Pixar stuff at HS. Beth will be doing Frozone.
For Felix, it would be denim skirt, blue and white striped button-down shirt, brown belt, Yankees cap, blue shoes; need to buy some sort of golden hammer accessory (I saw a couple of charms online, one gold-plated, and one silver that I would paint with gold nail polish, so I’d just have to decide which one to get and then put it on a string or necklace)
It’d be approximately this outfit, just plus a Yankees hat and possibly a different skirt (and you can’t really see the belt, but it’s behind my left hand):
100_3555.jpg

For Woody, it would be denim skirt, brown belt, not sure what shoes, and I would need to get a plaid shirt (which is why I’m more likely to go Felix)

Shabbos: Probably no DisneyBound, unless I decide to wear the same outfit I’ll wear Saturday morning (which is possible, but more likely it’ll just be a long skirt & sweater – I think 2 DBs in 1 day is enough)

Saturday – again, more than one outfit, but just 2 this day – Saturday morning Shabbos outfit, and nighttime park outfit
Shabbos: Mickey Mouse – red skirt, white short sleeve shirt, black (long sleeve) v-neck button down sweater, black tights, black shoes, yellow scarf, mickey swirl Pandora bead on a silver chain

Park: Enchanted Rose – gray rose sweater, green or denim skirt (not sure which one because I don’t love my green skirt as a park skirt), rose accessories (either will buy some cheap stuff or will make something using some beads I saw at Michaels). This was actually the first DB idea I came up with for this trip, and I actually looked online for accessories to go with it: (I decided not to buy the green skirt, not sure yet if I will get the rose jewelry (I saw some amazing rose beads at Michaels, so I may get those and make a necklace from them), and I decided not to get the shoes and purse)
Enchanted-Rose.png

I may wear the flats that day (I get sick of my sneakers sometimes), but will probably just end up in sneakers. And tights (which is why flats is better than sneakers ... I'm not in love with wearing tights and sneakers)

Sunday – As of right now, no DisneyBound (but that might change)

Monday – Wendy Darling – blue shirt (I’m sure I have one somewhere, even though I can’t find one right now – although I may end up having to search Beth’s closet, which she won’t mind), denim skirt, blue satin-y belt (I’d just get a satin-like ribbon), maybe blue hair bow (would have to buy or make), blue shoes. I saw some London-related charms online (but not in store, at least not when I looked quickly today), so I’d probably make a necklace out of those.

Tuesday – Probably no DisneyBound. If it’s cool enough for a sweater, I may wear my argyle sweater and do a “golf” theme (which is not strictly a “DisneyBound”, but is a themed outfit). Beth is on board for argyle golf day … assuming it’s sweater weather. I know it’s Florida, but not wearing sweaters in February seems odd to me.

In terms of Beth’s DisneyBounds – all she knows so far is Frozone on Friday. Not sure if she’ll do anything else.

I started writing this update on Monday … and it’s just getting posted now. It’s been a not-great week, between headaches, having to write a lot of cover letters, having a ridiculous argument about something that I shouldn’t have even had to worry about, getting some not-great news (which I should have been expecting, but I wasn’t), not sleeping great, and just the general difficulty of being me these days. Oh, and I would have posted this from Starbucks earlier, but I couldn’t get on the wi-fi for some reason. Not having my best week.

But to end on a high note ... 36 days! YAY!!

Okay walk/run today - See the Running Journal Here!

I actually had a really nice chat with my dad about running earlier.
I've been wearing my regular weekday hat with my pony tucked under, but it doesn't really cover my ears like that, and my pony doesn't fit well under there anyway. So I'm looking for a new head-covering solution.
When I got home, I asked my dad what he used to do (I don't remember if I've mentioned this before, but my dad ran many races in his younger days, including 3 NYC marathons).
He thought he ran with a sweatshirt hood covering his head, but he wanted to check, so we pulled out his old running scrapbook. We went through his running scrapbook a little and talked about some of his races and I shared a little of what I've learned about racing at Disney, I showed him the medals for the race and he showed me his old race medals.
I said my eventual goal was 1/2 marathon, he said that was much easier than marathon.

I think this may have been the first time I really talked about races will my dad and it was a really nice moment. I am fortunate enough to be pretty close with my father, but still, it's always nice to share a daddy-daughter moment like this.

Awwweeeee.....you are so very lucky to still have your Dad to talk with. I'd give anything to be able to talk to Dad about anything. I know he's with me in spirit, but it's not the same. It's nice that you two share a love of running. That's wonderful!

The jacket is just perfect for an Anna DB! I love that color. Her outfits are just amazing.

I think you Mickey outfit sounds great too. Such fun planning!

I am very fortunate to have both of my parents around and to get to spend lots of time with them. I really wasn't sure how he was going to respond to me taking up running (because he did it pretty seriously and I'm not that serious), but he seems really interested in it, which is great.

Thanks! Hopefully I'll be buying that jacket soon ... it's on sale and I have a 30% off coupon, so I should be buying it over the next few days, as soon as I get around too it.

I'm really excited about the Mickey outfit ... hopefully I'll remember to take a picture of it before I change into my park clothes so that I can post it in my TR.

Hi Sarah! :wave2: I know I'm inexcusably late, sorry about that. I was intimidated but the fact that your PTR was already PAGES in but I finally made time to read it.

It was a really compelling read - will she go or won't she? ;) I was so happy when you finally booked the long trip with your sister. :cheer2:

Reading through your trip report was also very educational and enlightening. I did not know much about Jewish tradition and keeping kosher. I have to admit I did some Googling. :rotfl2:

So I have to ask, that picture of your sister golfing, is she wearing a Boston Red Sox cap? I noticed you wearing a Yankees cap earlier in the report. When I saw her hat I couldn't tell if the B was for Boston. I called over DH who is the expert in these things but we couldn't tell with the sunglasses and the stitching on the cap. So please put me out of my misery - is Beth a Sox fan? :bitelip:

I think it's awesome that you're running the 5k. I did the 5k Color Run with Aidan (DS9) last year. He made us walk for a little of it but it was still challenging. And so much fun! I did a weight loss study last year and exercise was part of it. I decided to do C25K for my exercise requirement and I was so amazed that with some training I was able to run for 30 minutes. If I could do it, you can definitely do it. :thumbsup2

Looking forward to reading along. :goodvibes

Great Disney Bound ideas. :) I think Fix it Felix would be really fun! I really want to try Disney bounding for a day this summer but get so overwhelmed with the thought of it. I can't imagine putting together outfits for a whole trip!

You are getting close now!!

Hi Colleen! I ramble a lot, so I know this is a lot to read through. I really appreciate you taking the time to read it all!

It was a really compelling read - will she go or won't she? ;) I was so happy when you finally booked the long trip with your sister. :cheer2:
I'm glad it was a compelling read - it was not so fun to live through it. But it has a happy ending, as all stories should!

Reading through your trip report was also very educational and enlightening. I did not know much about Jewish tradition and keeping kosher. I have to admit I did some Googling. :rotfl2:
I'm glad you learned something! It's so funny, I've lived with this stuff all my life, so I can explain the basics of it in my sleep, but when people say they had to google stuff ... I totally understand because I have to google some of the complicated stuff (there are a lot of rules that are hard to explain and hard to remember).

So I have to ask, that picture of your sister golfing, is she wearing a Boston Red Sox cap? I noticed you wearing a Yankees cap earlier in the report. We get that question a lot with that hat. It is actually a Brooklyn Cyclones hat. The Cyclones are a minor league team (Mets affiliate) that play in Brooklyn that we usually see once a summer. Their logo is based on the old Brooklyn Dodgers logo, which looks a lot like the Red Sox logo.
Here's an image comparison:
B-Logos.png

The Dodgers and Red Sox logos are similar enough that it's hard to tell, especially with something blocking it.
Beth is a Yankees fan (like me) - other than my mom, who is a Mets fan, our entire family is Yankees fans.

Thanks! I really want to try the color run eventually (a few of my friends have done it), but the dates haven't worked out for me the past few times. I'm very impressed that you did it!
I'm feeling really optimistic about the run and hoping that I can do it with no problems.

Thanks for following along!

Thanks!

DisneyBounds can be really overwhelming, but I try to be casual about it, which makes it easier for me. I don't mind if I don't have all the right accessories or my shoes don't match the character or nobody can really tell. And I try to start with an outfit I would wear anyway. The Fix-It Felix one started because I'm not planning to wash my hair right after the race, so I figured I might want to wear a hat ... and since the hat I most likely would wear is my Yankees hat, which is blue ... I was watching Wreck-It Ralph and realized that I could do Felix with the hat and a denim skirt ... I wasn't sure what to do about the shirt until I was in my closet trying to figure out what to wear one day and I thought that shirt.
Basically, I start with one piece and build off of that slowly ... and definitely look to the DB blog for a lot of inspiration. It can be hard, but it's fun for me.

It's definitely really intense doing it every day, which is why I think I will take a few days off from it this trip. But I really enjoy making the accessories, so I try to find the outfits that allow me to have some fun crafting time.

You are getting close now!!
In exactly a month from now I will be at Disney!!!
You're even closer - only about 2 weeks now, right?

Thanks for the clarification, Sarah, and the comparison. We are Yankees fans. :woohoo: DH is a RABID baseball fan and he has all of the Yankee farm team caps so I will definitely show him the logos. I was a Red Sox fan being from Rhody but I switched recently because it was becoming uncomfortable in our house with the rivalry. :rotfl2: He lives for baseball so it only seemed right that I switch. :littleangel:

I'm glad to hear you switched over to the right side!
Being from Rhode Island I assumed you were a Sox fan (most of the people I know from RI are). We're a mixed household, but I think Mets/Yankees is easier to live with than Red Sox/Yankees.
I was actually a huge Mets fan until I was 8 or 9, but I switched to Yankees at some point. Not sure why, but I'm glad I did.

Walk/Run – Monday 1/19 & Treadmill Walk/Run 1/22/2015

Monday’s walk/run was a tough one, but I finished it … slowly. I had made a special playlist designed for slower and consistent running - it didn't help at all (well, I was pretty slow, but not consistent). See the Running Journal Here!

Today I wasn’t feeling up to running outdoors (colds suck), so I hopped on the treadmill. Didn’t have the energy to finish the full 45 minutes, though.

Started with a 5-minute warmup off the treadmill and ended with a 5 minute cool down (also off the treadmill).

Stats:
Time – 35:00 minutes
Distance – 2.41 miles
Intervals – 0:30 walk (3.5 mph)/4:30 run (5.0 mph) x6 – total 30 minutes

I felt terrible the whole time. I’m taking it easy for the rest of the day. Watching Gilmore Girls now, and I’ll watch Beauty and the Beast after lunch.

Our 30 day mark passed a few days ago. Yay – getting so close! I wish I could be more excited, but … sick. Hopefully I’ll have a fun update once I’m feeling better.

Your running progress is inspirational! Maybe one of these day I'll start running further than from my couch to the refrigerator. :lmao:

I was pondering Disneybounding the other day myself, but I dunno... I know me, and if I decide to do it, I would go overboard and spend a ton of money trying to make it perfect. Not to mention at my size, it's soooo hard to find things! I'll probably wait until I lose some more weight, and maybe plan to do some cute stuff in 2017.

Less than 30 days?!?! OMG OMG OMG! I'm a peanut butter and jealous sandwich! :hyper:

Thank you! It's definitely hard to get started with running (I started and stopped a few times), but I'm glad I started and am sticking with it.
That said ... I believe that running is not for everyone, so if the most running you ever do is from the couch to the fridge, that's cool with me ;)

The only reason I do it is because I'm very casual - I don't let myself overdo it. I mostly focus on accessories and trying to work with what I have. If I let myself try to buy new things to make it work well ... it would be bad news for my credit card bill.
I definitely think it's a lot of fun, but I understand why some people are hesitant to do it, especially when it's harder to find clothing (I have a similar problem because I don't wear pants and my skirts have to cover my knees, and it's hard to find skirts that long sometimes).

I know, only 25 days now! I can't believe I'm going to be in Disney World in 3.5 weeks!!

Despite snow on Saturday, I went out for a walk/run on Sunday - See the Running Journal Here

This was supposed to be a big run for me. My last 7-8 runs have been intervals of 0:30 min. walking/4:30 min. running, and this run I was trying something new - skipping every other walk interval (aka 0:30 walking/9:30 running). It turns out it was too much for me. I think next run I'll cut the running down to 8:30 (same 0:30 walking), see if that's easier.

Of course, the fact that I was running on snow probably didn't make it any easier. They did shovel the paths in the park, but apparently didn't salt them, so it was pretty much 75% black ice, and I had to run on the snow a lot.
I did slip on black ice once on the way to the park, but I survived.

Beth and I did some trip-related shopping yesterday ... I'll have an update on that soon. Hopefully.

Shopping!

Beth & I went on a shopping trip yesterday. Mostly it was for DisneyBounding stuff, and Beth also needed race gear. Beth is going with an overall Rapunzel DB theme (with two exceptions – Frozone on Friday & Genie on Sunday), and as of right now I’m going with the DisneyBounds listed earlier.

Beth took her haul back to her apartment with her, but here’s what I’ve got:
(I apologize in advance for the super big pictures, bad cropping, and general mess that is my carpeting in the first picture - I was having issues with cropping in Photobucket, which is what I get for sending my pictures straight from the phone to Photobucket instead of editing and cropping in Photoshop)
IMG_20150125_200322347.jpg

Close-Ups (in no particular order):
IMG_20150125_200340845.jpg

Beth got two of these horseshoes, as well as some earring wires. Between the two of us, I think we can figure out how to take them off the clips and attach them to the earrings. This is for Beth’s Maximus DisneyBound (Monday), and will be accompanied by khaki pants, a white shirt, and brown shoes (possibly also a brown belt, I don’t remember).

6a541980-303f-439f-8a68-a0c4e5e43c9a.jpg

This is for my Wendy Darling DisneyBound (Monday). I also got a chain to put it on:
IMG_20150125_200403647.jpg

I also got a blue satin-like ribbon, which I will both wear as a belt and attempt to fashion into a bow for my hair (I’ll attach it to a clip or something, I’m sure I have one lying around the house):
IMG_20150125_200431200.jpg

I was actually looking at a wider ribbon, but they didn’t have it in this color, so I got this one.

2395a1fe-16e0-42d7-ac69-effece2935f6.jpg

These are adhesive acrylic flowers, for Beth’s Rapunzel DisneyBound (race). We’re not entirely sure how they’ll fit in, but they were cheap and very Rapunzel. She also got a purple hooded shirt and capris (not pictured) for the race – it’s a very Rapunzel outfit.

26fec192-6028-4dd4-97f8-15e72baa23bb.jpg

These are probably my favorite purchase – polymer clay rose beads, for my Enchanted Rose DisneyBound (Saturday Night). I will probably try to put them on the same chain I’m using for the Wendy necklace, but if that doesn’t work, I’ll find some way to attach them to a string or chain. I really love these!

And the final purchase …
IMG_20150125_200621637.jpg

(the look on my face is because the camera was acting up and I couldn’t get it to take the picture)
This is the jacket for the Anna outfit. It’s not perfect (the other one I was looking for was better) – I think it’s a little too pink (it's even more pink in person than it is in the picture). That said, the other one was only available online, and for me buying in store is always easier than online. It has one zipper “media” pocket, which supposedly fits most smartphones, but only barely fits my phone, which means I likely will have to have my earbuds on at all times (I don’t think they’ll fit in the pocket with my phone), and I’m not sure if I can fit tissues in there. So I may end up wearing my denim skirt for the extra pockets, but we’ll see. I also wanted a full-zip, not a half-zip, but I realized that my race bib will be covering the bottom half of my top, so it’s not like I’d be able to unzip it fully anyway, so a half-zip is fine.
But yeah, this is what I bought for the Anna outfit, and I’m okay with it.
Also, don’t you love my pajama pants?

In terms of other purchases…
Beth also got a satchel for her Flynn Rider DisneyBound (and general use) and a white hoodie for Frozone. Frozone is Friday and will be accompanied by jeans, a blue shirt, and blue sneakers. Flynn Rider is Saturday night and will be accompanied by a white shirt, khaki pants, a denim jacket, and brown shoes. Sunday she’s doing Genie, which will be jeans or jean skirt (I’m not sure which one), blue top, and a red scarf/belt (she still has to get that one).

Also, in side notes … waivers became available today. I downloaded ours (and emailed Beth’s to her). Our bib numbers are only 34 apart, so I’m assuming we’ll most likely be in the same starting corral. But we’ll find out more about that at the expo. Still waiting for the program to be released …

GUYS I’M LEAVING FOR FLORIDA IN 24 DAYS!!!

I'm impressed that you braved the snow to go for a run. :thumbsup2 I don't think I could do that. I took the dog for a walk today and almost fell a few times on the ice.

It looks like you got some cute stuff for your DisneyBound. I'm still not sure I completely understand it but it seems fun. I can definitely see Anna in the jacket.

24 days - how exciting! Too bad you couldn't have gone this week or delayed the storm.

I went down once on Sunday (the bruise under my knee is finally starting to go away) ... in hindsight, I think I was nuts for going out. I was amazed how many people were out walking their dogs. I'm glad to hear you didn't slip, and I hope you're being safe when you take the dogs out!

Thanks! DisneyBounding is a little complicated if you're not so familiar with it, but if you stalk the website (http://disneybound.tumblr.com) every day like I do you start to figure it out. I'm still not great at putting together the outfits, but I'm getting better.

I know, right? Don't get me wrong, I love snow (and we only got about a foot, so it wasn't too bad), but I so wish I was in Florida right now!

Due to the "snowpocalypse" on Tuesday, I didn't want to risk outdoors on Thursday, so I did my walk/run on the treadmill. See the Running Journal Here!

This whole treadmill vs. park running thing is going to start coming into play a bit more, because snow season seems to have finally taken over (we got a few inches Friday night/Saturday, about a foot Monday/Tuesday, a little less than an inch today, and more expected on Monday).
I can do treadmill, but to me it feels totally different than running outside, so I prefer outside. I was planning to add some 3.1 mile treadmill runs in February just to practice running in slightly higher temperatures, but I think I may end up having to do some treadmill runs instead of outdoor runs. My goal from now until race day is at least one outdoor run per week, and if necessary I’ll do the other run on the treadmill – but if I can manage to do both runs outdoors in a week, I may still add a 3.1 mile run on the treadmill if I’m feeling up to it.

Anyways, that’s my running summary for the day. I’ll hopefully have another update either over the weekend or early next week (I started writing it up, but I’ve been busy and haven’t finished, and then I have to gather pictures).
