Kaye's Trip To Goalville (Comments Wanted!)

Kaye--I love that you do a gym schedule. What a great idea! I think I'll do the same. I like to work out, but I don't always make it to the gym as often as I like because I think I can always do it tomorrow.

I love your snow picture. Enjoy!

Hi Everyone! :wave2: Thanks so much to all of you for stopping by, I was so excited to see all my visitors :teeth:

Princess Michelle I'm a GA girl far from home so this snow is still new to me even after 5 winters I'm still a little amazed when I wake up to see a blanket of snow like Saturday. :)

Blueeyes101817 - This is my first week making such specific goals but I think that I'm a routine/list type person so I'm more apt to stick to something if I write it down (especially in public like here :teeth: ) I'm giving it a try and I'll let you know how it goes. ::yes::

geetey - The veggies are hardest for me as well. The fruits I could eat all day - but the veggies I really have to remind myself to get them in even though I like most veggies. I should get more raw easy to grab veggies to keep on hand. ::yes::

Strings - Thank you for the congratulations! :) I so HATE driving in the snow. And I'm awful at it. I try to do it as little as possible as I fear for my fellow drivers. :teeth: It's beautiful though on the weekend especially when I have nowhere to go and can just enjoy it through the window. :teeth:

LAinSEA - Thank you for stopping by my journal. I have told DH the same thing that for me going to the gym needs to become a routine just like being OP and making lunch before I go to bed at night. I know that my personality is such that once I'm in a routine I don't easily change it so I just have to stick with this long enough to get to that point. Thank you for the encouragement. :)

swilphil - I hope the gym plan will help you as well. Tomorrow is the test -day one for this week at the gym. I am doing everything in my power to not skip this week. If I had a meeting I wouldn't cancel just because I didn't feel like it and the gym needs to be the same for me. I know how exercise impacts my weight loss so I have to keep thinking those types of thoughts when I'm getting myself ready to head out tomorrow.

I'm going to try and post a motto for myself for each week. My motto for this week is going to be "I am worth the time it takes!" I need to remind myself that I am worth this time I'm taking out of other things I could be doing to take care of me and my health. My DH is so supportive and in that I'm lucky - he does everything possible to make getting to the gym easier for me and I need to take advantage of that and carve out this time for me to get healthy and get to goal! My body thinks it wants to camp out on the couch after work but after the gym it's thanking me for moving around after sitting all day at work. ::yes:: I'm really wanting to push myself beyond what I THINK I can do to what I can REALLY do! ::yes:: I hope that a 5K is just the beginning. ::yes::

Today was a good day I've been OP - need to get in one more water before bed. During the week I strive for 4 (16 oz) bottles and sometimes have to cram that last one in right before bed. I have had 3 fruits and 4 veggies today :Pinkbounc I'm going to be fixing a nice bowl of grapes for myself after this post so I'll be up to 4 fruits and then cap the night off with a WW Cookies and Cream Bar while watching 24. :) I'm striving for a 3 lb loss this week. It's aggressive but considering last week was small and I am planning to up the exercise this week I hope I can get there. :)

Wow, Kaye, that is a GREAT motto! I love it and I am going to keep that in mind over the coming days! Thanks for sharing your motto.

I love your motto. I think that is a great idea. I've been realizing I need to focus more to keep my goal in mind. A weekly motto is great! :sunny:

I have the same trouble with veggies :) The fruits are a treat!

Hi Kaye,

I love your motto. You are definately worth the time and effort. Great job getting in your veggies and water. You will definately see a loss this week.

Take care,
Beth

Hi Everyone! :wave2: Well I did it - I went to the gym and did everything as scheduled - :cool1: I even did a little extra. I did 1 mile at 3.5 MPH without stopping then did .10 at 4.5 MPH. I really worked up a sweat and felt that this was the best workout I have had since I started. I walked the balance of the 30 minutes and then did all the lower body machines. My legs felt like JELLO after that. But I felt so wonderful when I was done and felt so happy to have gotten one day checked off of my schedule. I was OP and even got in 80 oz of water today. The only thing that makes the gym harder I think is just knowing you have all your regular things to do when you get home - make dinner, make lunch for the next day, iron clothes, etc. Anyone have any tips for making that part easier? It really cuts into my DIS time too. :teeth: But I'll get caught up on the weekends. :)

kaye--u are doing so great!! the motto idea is a great one..i always get discouraged and frustrated, and i think that may just help...
you get all your fruits and veggies in! i have such a hard time with that
awesome on getting everything done at the gym!! have a great day

What? I'm supposed to be doing those things? Well, no wonder the house is a mess.;)

Great job at the gym!

:rotfl: Sherri - I know that feeling so well. I need about 10 more hours a day :teeth:

Another day OP! :) I'm still up for the week (I weigh daily) but I have a feeling the Bloat Fairy is settling in for a few days. I will try to either drown her or workout so much she finds a more comfortable place to hang out :teeth:
Today was my off day and I'm glad as I'm VERY sore. Especially after a day sitting at my desk - seems everything got so stiff after a day at work. It's good to know those machines work though. :teeth:
Last night on a funny note I found the one thing that takes away my appetite... doing taxes :faint: It's the first time since I've been on WW that I didn't eat all 24 of them. After that I had no appetite and just wanted to go to bed.
Tomorrow it's back to the gym! :) Hopefully I'll get in all the things I scheduled and can report good things tomorrow. Have a great Thursday everyone :wave2:

Kaye....love, love, love the motto!! You rock girl!! SO glad to see this week is going great for you!! Keep up the good work! Sounds like you have a plan for just about everything!! Way to go!!!

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Kaye,

Thanks for dropping by my journal. Your motto is great!

Suggestion for getting the veggies in is to make your dinner really veggie-heavy. I do lots of stir-frys, have veggie soup for lunch, etc. I also get in a lot of veggies by making a side dish out of sliced zucchini, yellow squash, peppers (green, yellow, and red) and sometimes a little onion or broccoli. Just heat a little olive oil in a wok, toss in the veggies and I season them with some Good Seasons Italian Dressing mix (about 1/3 of the packet). I don't know if you've ever had the veggie side dish at Applebees, but this tastes just like it and it makes me really enjoy eating my veggies.

Great job on the workouts! Does it help with the commitment when you realize you're inspiring others? A little positive peer pressure can't hurt any of us I guess.

Rebecca

Hi kaye,

I hope you are feeling a bit better today. I hate being sore. Like you said, you know it is working.

Ugh taxes! I still haven't gotten my W2. My hospital makes sure we get them on the last day possible. I should get a refund this year, so I want to do them!

Keep up the great work, and I hope the Whoosh Fariy arrives soon!

Take care,
Beth

Hi Kaye,

I have learned a new trick for veggies. I keep a batch of mixed veggies in the fridge and then add some to spaghetti sauce, pre-made soups, ect. Every little bit helps!!!!

I also recently discovered a way I can tolerate cauliflower. Boil it to "smooshy" consistency, then mash with some FF half and half, FF margarine and salt and pepper (other flavorings if you can think of them). Its very good. Personally, I'm pretty good with point veggies like peas, corns, winter squash, its the zero point veggies that I am training myself to like.

Taxes? Oh did you have to mention taxes :scared:

Keep up the GRREEEAAAATT work!!!!

Hi Everyone :wave2: I can't tell you how much it motivates and encourages me to visit my journal and read all of your messages :goodvibes: Thank you so much. ::yes::
Thanks so much everyone for the veggie suggestions. They all sound great and I'll be trying them out. ::yes::
Well today was good as far as food goes. Got in 4 veggies and 4 fruits :sunny: Had 80 oz of water and stayed OP. The bad news is I didn't go to the gym. I'm disappointed in myself but it was more or less a series of events. DH and I usually go together but I knew he probably wouldn't be going with me today as he had a big project he was working on and went in at 4:00 this morning and didn't leave until 5:00. :faint: So last night I was planning out my day and planning to go the gym right after work. Well to begin with I woke up this morning with a sore throat. Nothing terrible but noticable and uncomfortable all day and to top that off I'm walking like I'm a 100 years old  I'm SO sore - I knew I was giving 110% when I was there Tuesday but I'm starting to think 90% might have been more than enough. ;) I have such an awful soreness in my upper thighs - especially when I get up from sitting down or sit down. :faint: I am going for sure tomorrow - sore or not as I can't afford to miss another day. I'm disappointed that I won't get my 4 days in this week but partly think I did the right thing based on my soreness and not feeling 100%. What do you all do? Do you exercise through soreness? Do you give it a few days and go back to the same machines? I'm such a gym newbie when it comes to this stuff. :)
Additionally I have a diet LAND MINE approaching that I'm really starting to get panicky about. A week from Saturday we have dinner out with my IL's. It's a buffet place and I know what types of things to stick to but in my mind I'm thinking what if it's cooked in tons of fat and I don't know it :scared1: Any suggestions for a buffet dinner and the best choices that will cause the least amount of damage? Then Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday which is a party at my IL's where there will not be much in the way of healthy food :scared1: I'm taking some fruit but I know that I will be indulging in some of the once a year items that are there. Now on top of that - two weeks from today I'm going to see my family in GA. That means 5 days of not so healthy eating. Fried chicken dinners at my aunt's, cake at my grandma's, you get the idea. I have no idea what I'm going to do. In the past I treated vacation as a "do what you want - it doesn't happen often" but after the holidays and seeing how quickly this weight came back I'm terrified to get in the same prediciment. I need HELP - big time! :) Any suggestions would be so appreciated. I'm not sure what kind of plan of attack to have so I enjoy myself and don't spend every second thinking about food to the point where I end up binging but at the same time not throwing away all that I've done. I will take my WW books and count points as best I can but somethings I probably won't want to know the points for  :faint:
So that's today - hopefully I will have better news on the exercise front tomorrow. ::yes::
Thanks again everyone - your messages mean so much to me. :goodvibes:

Ok kaye,

Take a deep breath.

You did the right thing today. If you have a sore throat and sore muscles, you needed a rest day. I utilize the 2 day rule. If I know I'll be sore after a wokr out-it'll be worse on the 2nd day. I take 400mg motrin at night the day of and day after a super workout. You also shouldn't exercise when you are ill. I learned that the hard way.

What to do at a buffet...There is always a salad and soup. Start there before you hit the rest of the food. Go back to the table and eat that before filling a plate. This will help keep you away from the major temptations. Things that are usually safe at buffets are the roasted meats and shrimp cocktail. There is usually at least 1 veggie that isn't sauced, and usually baked potatoes available as well. Dessert can be fruit. Pineapple and kiwi are treats.

The SB MD wrote in his book, if you absolutely need to have something, try 3 bites. It will usually satisfy the craving without derailing our program. He is right.

As for your trip. Do the best you can. If you have to, stop by Wendy's on the way to grandma's for a salad. Have a piece of chicken without the skin. Is it a perfect plan? No, but there is only so much you can do. Worrying about it for 2 weeks will only stress you out, and you'll end up binging. Relax and enjoy yourself. You have all the tools you need to get to the weight you want. We'll be here when you get back, and Terry has a whip.

Have a good night,
Beth

Kaye

Yikes! You do have a food mountain ahead of you!!!! I really like that "3 bite" idea. I think that will help you. Look for veggies everywhere!!!! Do the best you can, get your workouts in and don't sweat it. I'm sure you will get through just fine :sunny: You are wise to be preplanning your plan of attack!

Sundie

Hi Kaye,

I hope your day is going well and you are feeling a bit better. We've all faced the challenge of buffets, parties, etc. We aren't always able to stay Op, but we do what we can. We also keep fighting, and that is what makes the differance. You will do fine. I have faith in you.
Have a great weekend,
Beth
