I just got back Thursday night from a wonderful week at WDW. My friend Helen was with me for most of the trip, although I was solo the last couple of days. I had made several PS’s before the trip, but we only kept a couple of them, choosing to eat counter service for most of our meals. I’m a vegetarian (ovo-lacto) but Helen eats meat and I am including a few reviews of her meals here too.

Dolphin Fountain: We had a very late lunch here on our first day after checking into the Swan. We both had Boca veggie burgers and chips. They were pretty good, but nothing outstanding. This is a good place to have a quick meal, and I know from previous visits that the ice cream is very good, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here.

Since we had such a late lunch, we skipped our dinner PS at Liberty Tree Tavern, having cookies and hot chocolate during MVMCP for dinner.

Columbia Harbour House: This is my favorite MK counter service restaurant. I like to eat upstairs where it’s quiet and never crowded. I had vegetarian chili, which I’ve had here several times and always enjoy. This time I had a lighthouse sandwich (hummus with tomato & broccoli slaw) with it, and it was delicious. Helen had clam chowder with an anchors aweigh sandwich (white tuna with lettuce and tomato) and she said both were very good.

Aloha Isle: A Dole Whip is one of the highlights of my MK visits – I absolutely love them!

Earl of Sandwich: I had a Caprese sandwich (sliced mozzarella, roma tomatoes, and basil drizzled with virgin olive oil) and a fruit salad. Helen had an All American sandwich (turkey, buttermilk ranch dressing, cranberries, cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomato) and chips. We both thought our sandwiches were fantastic. The bread they use for their sandwiches is delicious. This was one of the best meals of the trip.

ABC Commissary: I had read mixed reviews of this restaurant so I was a little hesitant to try it, but I’m really glad we did. We both had tabbouleh wraps, and they were very good.

50’s Prime Time: This was my first time here, and it was really a lot of fun. Cousin Jan was our server, and she was very funny without being over the top. I had the stuffed peppers because that was the only vegetarian selection available. The peppers were overcooked, and the rice and ratatouille stuffing was too greasy, but I chose this meal more for the theming than for the food so I didn’t really mind. Helen had the meatloaf with green beans and mashed potatoes, and she said it was very good.

Electric Umbrella: I had a veggie burger and substituted pineapple coleslaw for the fries. The veggie burger was pretty good and the pineapple coleslaw was delicious. Helen had a turkey sandwich with pineapple coleslaw. She liked the coleslaw but thought the sandwich was just okay.

Tangierine Café: This was my first time eating here. I had a vegetarian platter (tangerine couscous salad, hummus, tabbouleh and marinated olives). Helen had a lamb shawarma platter with hummus, tabbouleh and tangerine couscous salad. Everything we had was very, very good.

Fountainview Café: We had most of our breakfasts in the room or on the run, but we were hungry one morning in Epcot, and we wanted a decent cup of coffee, so we stopped by Fountainview Café. I had coffee here before, and I know that they advertise that they serve regular Nescafe coffee that is served everywhere else at WDW, but for some reason it tastes better here. I had a fruit bowl with my coffee, and Helen had a bagel and coffee. It was really good for a light breakfast.

Boulangerie Patisserie: I adore this restaurant for a quick counter service meal in Epcot. I was very pleased to find that they were serving a spinach and tomato quiche, which I had not seen here before. It was so, so good! I also had a strawberry tart, which I have pretty much every time I eat here (at least once each trip). Yum! Helen had a salmon quiche and chocolate croissant, and she said both were very good.

Biergarten: We had dinner here for our CP package. I chose this restaurant because the theming sounded fun, but I really didn’t have much hope of finding a wide vegetarian selection. Well, I was wrong! This meal was one of the highlights of the trip. There was a wide selection of cold salads to choose from (the tomato salad was my favorite), potato dumplings (delicious), spatzle (yum!), glazed carrots, macaroni and cheese, pretzel bread, apple strudel, vanilla pudding and Florentine cookies. There were other selections I could’ve had, but I was too full to eat any more. Everything I had was very, very good. I will definitely be eating here again. Helen tried quite a few different items also, and she liked everything she tried.

Cantina de San Angel: I had dinner here on a solo day. I ordered nachos with no beef, and they were very good and filling. The nachos were topped with cheese, tomatoes, black beans, jalapenos, and sour cream.

Express Restaurant: This is a brand new counter service restaurant in Innoventions West. I ate lunch here on Wednesday, December 22, the second day that it was open. The CM said they would be open through the holidays and then would stay open while Sunshine Season Food Fair is closed for renovation. I had vegetarian chili, which was decent but not as good as the chili at Columbia Harbour House.

Tangierine Café: I ate here for the second time on my last solo night. This time I had the tabbouleh wrap, which was very, very good.

ESPN Club: I had lunch here before leaving for the airport. I had a grilled Portobello sandwich with fries, and it was delicious. The vegetables were grilled perfectly, and the roll was soft and very good. I had never been here before, and I really enjoyed the food and atmosphere.

Thanks for the reviews, Kaycee. Sounds like you had some great meals. Gotta love those Dole Whips! ;)

Thanks for your reviews. I need to figure out where to eat when I go to WDW with my 11yo son next month. He's a picky eater and vegie to boot, so it's not easy. I'm going to have him go through some restaurant menus since he's old enough to give me his input.

He's disappointed that Prime Time Cafe will be closed during our visit and I'm hoping to find another similar type place for us to go to. I know that Whispering Canyon at WL is that type of place, but the vegie offerings were very slim when I was there a few weeks ago. Any suggestions?

I agree about Earl of Sandwich--I love that place! My DH and I ate there twice when we were at WDW for 5 days this fall and I ate there twice during my last trip. Not a lot of selection for vegies, but I really like what they do have.

Earl of Sandwich is in the Marketplace at Downtown Disney. It's fairly new, I think it's been open less than a year. We ate there in June as well as last week, and it was great both times. :D

Thanks so much for the reviews! We are all vegetarians in our family, so we are also concerned about where to each. I can't wait to try the counter service in France now that I know they have a vegetarian quiche option! (we are also ovo-lacto vegetarians).

I really appreciate your post. We had thought about trying the restaurant in Mexico, but heard they used lard for their refried beans. I never thought about getting the nachos without the meat. Great idea!

Thanks for the reviews. It's good to know about the new Express Restaurant in Innovations West.

Can you, or anyone, tell us more about this place. What else do they serve? FutureWorld is seriously lacking in the restaurant department since they closed Odyssey and Pasta Piazza and closed Wonders of Life. Now with Sunshine Food Fair closed there isn't much left.

Thanks for the reviews. We ate at several of the same places a few weeks ago. My wife had a vegetarian dish with portobello mushrooms at Le Cellier a couple of weeks ago and just loved it.

Ok, what is pineapple slaw? Where is the electric umbrella? Great reviews. Thanks for sharing.

Pineapple slaw is like regular coleslaw with a hint of pineapple. I know it sounds a little odd, but it is very good. I love pineapple, so I'm a little biased, but I think it adds a fresh, interesting taste to what would be standard coleslaw otherwise.

Electric Umbrella is in Innovations East across from Mousegears as you are walking toward Test Track and Mission: Space.

My husband has stated that he would like to go to Le Cellier but I was hesitant because I figured there would not be much there for a vegetarian to eat. I am glad, and so is my husband, that this is a restaurant we could go to.

We also ate at the Cantina last week and ordered the wet burrito without meat. It printed on the ticket as a bean burrito (not listed on the menu, but obviously available) and was only 4.50 for a good sized burrito. Tasty!

(Lard? hmmmm....wish I hadn't read that....anyone know for sure?)

According to the Vegetarian Guide to WDW and to the vegetarian reviews on Deb Wills' site, the beans at Cantina de San Angel are vegetarian/vegan - no lard!
