Kayak or Canoe?

DD12 wants to go kayaking or canoeing with me at FW. Ok, I admit it. I've never done either, but I don't want to let DD down. Which is easier, kayaking or canoeing? I figure I'm bound to get soaked either way, but at least we'll have fun doing it!

Both are rented at FW, not sure which would be easier for a beginner. Either way I wouldn't plan on getting 'soaked' by falling into the water or splashing with the paddles. Although the water at Disney is pretty to look at, it's not particularly clean, I personally wouldn't get it all over me.

Trust me, I won't be trying to get dumped into the water! Heaven knows I don't like getting in the Susquehanna River either!

For me canoeing is easier. I don't like the kyak's you sit down in as to me it seems they are difficult to get in and out of. We have the canoeing on our to do list at some point. That's what we love about FW. Endless things to do that you just don't seem to have enough time to do. Maybe this time. 4 more weeks to go.

For us the kayaking is definitely easier. The canoe seemed harder to maneuver than the kayak. They had single and double kayaks for rent at the Fort. The CM helps you get situated in the kayak and helps get you started. It was a breeze. Enjoy the memories you create (whether or not they include an unexpected swim)..they will last a lifetime!

I've only used the canoes at the Fort but either should be fine. When starting turn right and every time you come to an intersection/junction bear right. This will take you out in a circle coming back in around by the 1500 loop and pool. It takes between 30-60 minutes depending on your pace.

I used kayaks other places and the sit-on-tops are fine but a little more wobbly. If this is her first time on the water in a boat and she might be a little nervous, do the canoe. If she's fearless, go with the kayak.

I agree with a previous poster - go make some memories with her .
