Hi Everyone!
I got engaged 2 months ago (today!) and have been trying to hold off on starting a PJ since my wedding isn't for another 13 months. Despite my best efforts I am too excited to wait! Disclaimer: this post is going to be very long!
A little about us: I'm Katie, 23, a program analyst; Kevin is 24 and is an economist. We officially met in the summer of 2004 at a local grocery store - I was on break and Kevin was in the breakroom training his friend who was just hired. There was more talking than training and at the end of lunch we exchanged screennames and phone numbers so we could keep chatting. After several conversations Kevin asked me out on a movie & ice cream date. Yummy! After a couple more dates and spending time together we officially became "boyfriend/girlfriend" on August 29th. Seven years later we are still each other's best friend and one true love!
This post would not be complete without mention of our furbabies - our four rescued cats! Fiona was adopted back in 2006 and Milton, Millie and Lea were all adopted in 2010. All four of our cats enjoyed being bottle fed and have taken on very loving (and sometimes dog-like) personalities. We love to watch them run around our apartment and chase toys. They are definitely a joy to come home to! Once I figure out how to do pictures I will put some up
This is also why my user name for most everything is kkfl2m: katie, kevin, fiona, lea, millie & milton (2m).. it represents our little family!
The Proposal: Kevin proposed on our 7th anniversary. His proposal was absolutely amazing and incredibly well thought out and executed! Although I knew he had the ring and really wanted him to propose on our anniversary, I was still completely surprised, as he told me it would be a few weeks later during our beach vacation (sneaky devil!).
The night before our anniversary he gave me a handmade invitation to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants and told me to dress nicely and meet him there right after work, barely giving me enough time to get to the restaurant from the commuter lot. He stayed home from work and cleaned our entire apartment and enlisted his sister and parents to help set everything up.
Finally, the end of the day came and I made my way to the restaurant. We were seated at our very own table (which is rare for a hibachi place!) and enjoyed a very yummy dinner of filet, scallops, & lobster with rice & vegetables. According to Kevin I got a little sulky toward the end of dinner because it really seemed like he would not be proposing that night he said he had something else planned and eventually gave in and told me we were going to see a movie. We finished eating and he suggested going home to change and drop off my car before the movie.
On the walk to the door I suggested he propose multiple times so we both get our way, he laughed and while unlocking the door said, I know you want me to propose today, but I have a day in mind. As he opened the door he said, but what if those days are the same? and walks me into the apartment that is completely full of flowers, candles, chocolate kisses, and magically music from Beauty & the Beast! I was in complete awe at this point. He took me to the back of the room to the dining table that has more flowers/candles/kisses as well as a beautiful ring box.
He gets down on one knee, holds my hands, and says, In this room are 7 dozen roses for the 7 years we have spent together, 84 candles for each month, 364 cut out paper hearts for every week, and 2,555 kisses for every day. And this is one ring for the lifetime we will spend together. Katherine Alyse Erisman, 7 years is too long for any girl to wait but I'm glad you did. Will you be my wife? I was in such shock I just kept asking how he did all this before remembering to say YES!!
After another minute of absorbing how awesome everything was, I checked the bathroom (I knew there was no way he would have left all those candles burning with our furbabies there!) and found his sister hiding with her camera. Then we took some re-enactment photos, enjoyed champagne, and invited our families over to share in our joy. Everything was perfect!
Why Disney? Initially we were planning on getting married in the Outer Banks on the beautiful beaches of North Carolina. We had even told a few people it would be 8.29.2013, our 9th anniversary (due to work conflicts we cant get married until after November 2012). Then a hurricane hit and did a lot of damage in OBX, canceling our vacation (good thing he proposed on our anniversary!) and causing us to rethink the OBX.
At that point we decided we didnt want to deal with the stress of worrying about the weather. We looked into having a more traditional, close to home wedding. I found a few awesome places but none of them felt "right."
We discussed other options and Disney came up. While we were there in May we had dinner at Narcoossees. Walking by the Wedding Pavilion just felt so magical and I think we both commented at the time how awesome a Disney wedding would be. After looking into it more, we realized a Disney wedding was possible and we were psyched! This was the perfect opportunity to share the magic with our nearest and dearest. Not to mention, where better to get married than the Happiest Place on Earth??!
Since I am out of content from my wedding website to copy and paste, that should be a good start for now.
I am going to look into the picture thing so I can post some of my current ideas.
