Hi Everyone! :goodvibes I got engaged 2 months ago (today!) and have been trying to hold off on starting a PJ since my wedding isn't for another 13 months. Despite my best efforts I am too excited to wait! Disclaimer: this post is going to be very long!

A little about us: I'm Katie, 23, a program analyst; Kevin is 24 and is an economist. We officially met in the summer of 2004 at a local grocery store - I was on break and Kevin was in the breakroom training his friend who was just hired. There was more talking than training and at the end of lunch we exchanged screennames and phone numbers so we could keep chatting. After several conversations Kevin asked me out on a movie & ice cream date. Yummy! After a couple more dates and spending time together we officially became "boyfriend/girlfriend" on August 29th. Seven years later we are still each other's best friend and one true love!

This post would not be complete without mention of our furbabies - our four rescued cats! Fiona was adopted back in 2006 and Milton, Millie and Lea were all adopted in 2010. All four of our cats enjoyed being bottle fed and have taken on very loving (and sometimes dog-like) personalities. We love to watch them run around our apartment and chase toys. They are definitely a joy to come home to! Once I figure out how to do pictures I will put some up  This is also why my user name for most everything is kkfl2m: katie, kevin, fiona, lea, millie & milton (2m).. it represents our little family!

The Proposal: Kevin proposed on our 7th anniversary. His proposal was absolutely amazing and incredibly well thought out and executed! Although I knew he had the ring and really wanted him to propose on our anniversary, I was still completely surprised, as he told me it would be a few weeks later during our beach vacation (sneaky devil!).

The night before our anniversary he gave me a handmade invitation to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants and told me to dress nicely and meet him there right after work, barely giving me enough time to get to the restaurant from the commuter lot. He stayed home from work and cleaned our entire apartment and enlisted his sister and parents to help set everything up.

Finally, the end of the day came and I made my way to the restaurant. We were seated at our very own table (which is rare for a hibachi place!) and enjoyed a very yummy dinner of filet, scallops, & lobster with rice & vegetables. According to Kevin I got a little sulky toward the end of dinner because it really seemed like he would not be proposing that night – he said he had something else planned and eventually “gave in” and told me we were going to see a movie. We finished eating and he suggested going home to change and drop off my car before the movie.

On the walk to the door I suggested he propose multiple times so we both get our way, he laughed and while unlocking the door said, “I know you want me to propose today, but I have a day in mind.” As he opened the door he said, “but what if those days are the same?” and walks me into the apartment that is completely full of flowers, candles, chocolate kisses, and magically music from Beauty & the Beast! I was in complete awe at this point. He took me to the back of the room to the dining table that has more flowers/candles/kisses as well as a beautiful ring box.

He gets down on one knee, holds my hands, and says, “In this room are 7 dozen roses for the 7 years we have spent together, 84 candles for each month, 364 cut out paper hearts for every week, and 2,555 kisses for every day. And this is one ring for the lifetime we will spend together. Katherine Alyse Erisman, 7 years is too long for any girl to wait but I'm glad you did. Will you be my wife?” I was in such shock I just kept asking how he did all this before remembering to say YES!!

After another minute of absorbing how awesome everything was, I checked the bathroom (I knew there was no way he would have left all those candles burning with our furbabies there!) and found his sister hiding with her camera. Then we took some re-enactment photos, enjoyed champagne, and invited our families over to share in our joy. Everything was perfect!

Why Disney? Initially we were planning on getting married in the Outer Banks on the beautiful beaches of North Carolina. We had even told a few people it would be 8.29.2013, our 9th anniversary (due to work conflicts we can’t get married until after November 2012). Then a hurricane hit and did a lot of damage in OBX, canceling our vacation (good thing he proposed on our anniversary!) and causing us to rethink the OBX.

At that point we decided we didn’t want to deal with the stress of worrying about the weather. We looked into having a more traditional, close to home wedding. I found a few awesome places but none of them felt "right."

We discussed other options and Disney came up. While we were there in May we had dinner at Narcoossee’s. Walking by the Wedding Pavilion just felt so magical and I think we both commented at the time how awesome a Disney wedding would be. After looking into it more, we realized a Disney wedding was possible and we were psyched! This was the perfect opportunity to share the magic with our nearest and dearest. Not to mention, where better to get married than the Happiest Place on Earth??!

Since I am out of content from my wedding website to copy and paste, that should be a good start for now. :lmao: I am going to look into the picture thing so I can post some of my current ideas.

Welcome! That is one of the sweetest engagements I have ever read! :)

Thanks so much! I love looking at the photos from the setup, etc - he managed to recreate that magical feel from the parks. :love:I'm still working on sharing them!

Current Plans: After much deliberation & waffling, we have decided to have an Escape wedding – although a Wishes wedding would be awesome, the Escape option allows us to keep the party small and still have everything we want. We plan to rent a 1bedroom Boardwalk Villa for the week and we will be married on 12.12.12! Since there may be some competition for our date and venue choices, we are trying not to get too attached to our plans (this is proving extremely difficult for me, and making me want to switch to Wishes every 5 minutes). That being said, in an ideal universe, this is how our wedding day would go:

-Some sort of group breakfast
-Getting ready (& photos) girls & guys in different rooms at BWV
-1st Look photos around the BW
-Ceremony @ 2:30pm @ the Wedding Pavilion
-Cake Reception at Commander’s Terrace
-Photos / Cocktail Hour
-Dinner at Citrico’s
-Dessert Party @ UK Terrace (would prefer Isola West Plaza, but I don’t think we will have 20 people)
-Depending on moods & energy, after party on the BW (Jellyrolls?)
-Room service breakfast with my hubby the next morning

We are also planning some events throughout the week, including a welcome breakfast, bachelor/bachelorette drinking around the world event, a rehearsal dinner, and treating our wedding party to MVMCP! The second half of the week will be more honeymoon-ish as we don’t plan to spend as much time with our families and will be having some nice dinners together. At this point we are still discussing a honeymoon after the wedding, probably a cruise.

It will be remotely Christmas-themed (maybe Christmas-inspired is a better way to put it) with red, raspberry, blush, green, and white as the colors (although not the commercial red & green Christmas colors). Our at home reception may double as the family Christmas party.

Wedding Party:Maid of Honor: Kevin’s sister, Kelly – my best girl friend & the sister I never had. We had some classes together in high school and neither of us thought the other one liked us. Funny how life turns out sometimes. :lmao:

Flower Girl: Kelly’s daughter, Staci – super cute and waaay excited to be our flower girl (and even more so to be doing it at WDW!) We didn’t even get to ask her if she would be our flower girl, she asked us! We will get to surprise her with Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique though!princess:

At first we were thinking only MoH/BM/FG but I think we might end up adding more people. If that’s the case, my other bridesmaids will be Katie (Kevin’s other sister, another sister I never had) and Kristy (their cousin, who reminds me of my cousin and has always been so kind & welcoming to me).

The male side of the lineup is still TBD. Kevin has really close friendships with several guys and he is having a hard time choosing a Best Man. If we grow the wedding party, the non-BMs will be groomsmen.

Since I am can't do photos from work, here is a link to my Pinterest. It has most of my inspiration pictures. I also have a board for photos I want & will eventually (the site is messing up) have boards for different wedding events. :goodvibes

That is a cool way to incorporate your anniversary! We really wanted to keep ours too, but no way we are going to FL in August! :lmao:

Hey Katie! I love your inspiration board! Can't wait to read more of your plans!

Thanks! I have a budding pinterest addiction! It really makes it easy to visualize & plan!

I have been reading along to both of your PJs! It is fun to finally join in! :goodvibes

Thanks! Do you have one yet? I would love to look at all the other DISbride's inspiration boards! :thumbsup2

Since I am not good about updating during the week (can’t do much from my work computer, get home late), I am going to do back to back posts. :thumbsup2This one will have pictures of my vision of the style (at least for the girls) for our wedding, and the next one will be a recount of my first dress shopping experience. I apologize in advance if these photos are huge… I am still experimenting with photobucket!

For now, I am really set on the Snow White dress by Alfred Angelo. Something about it just gets me, and I am embarrassed to say but I teared up a couple times thinking about marrying my DF in it!

Since we are going with the colors of the season, I want my girls to wear red. Pretty much any style in the ‘Apple’ color from David’s Bridal will work (or a similar color from another place), but these are two of my favorites:

This is the bouquet I want:

With matching centerpieces:

Alternating with these:

This is a cake I am considering (the white one); it is so pretty and incorporates the anemone that I am loving these days:

We may go with a mad hatter cake though, as we both love the topsy turvy style. If that’s the case I will have to find another opportunity to use this cake design! :rotfl:

What do you all think?

Last weekend I went dress shopping with MOH, DF's other sister/possible BM, and MOG. The weather was horrible – cold, windy, and nasty rain that wanted to be snow, and I think it put everyone in kind of a funk to begin with. My MOH wanted to make it special and called ahead to see if we could drink champagne – the answer was no but that didn’t stop us from sipping some bubbly on the way to the stores!
We went to two local places - the first one was a major disappointment! I had heard great reviews from a family friend but the Yelp reviews were 50/50... unfortunately I fall into the negative side of that split. The place was super dark, only the male owner was there (he was helping people with their tuxedos), and we were left to look through the very limited selection of poorly taken care of dresses on our own. Maybe that would be a welcome retreat to ladies who have been pestered endlessly at other bridal salons, but for first timers it really wasn't what we expected or wanted. I did some browsing online of the brands the store carried and brought a list of ones I wanted to try on – of my list, they only had one – the Cinderella dress. I tried on a few dresses and even though the whole thing made me acutely aware of how much weight I need to lose, it was pretty fun and I did feel like a princess. princess:

Here are a couple dresses my MOH took on her iPod – not the greatest quality especially in the low lighting – just ignore my weird faces:

The Cinderella dress (it was a little snug and was sitting too high, that’s why the top looks so weird) – this is currently my #2 favorite:

A dress DF’s sister (hereon, pBM for possible BM) picked out – after we realized this would not be the place I would be buying a dress from she was treating me like a Barbie – my poor MOH’s fingers laced me into so many dresses! This one is just terrible on me but was a couple sizes too big, so it was nice to easily slide into one!
ug1.jpg

After a few more weird dresses we left and decided to try our luck with another local bridal store. I was even more nervous about this one because its website suggested it was more of a prom/homecoming store. I AM SO GLAD WE WENT HERE! It was a completely different experience – we were immediately greeted by the smiling owner and she treated all of us so well! Even the weather improved! The lighting was great, her dresses were well cared for and organized, and she picked out a bunch for me to try on. I loved every single one she gave me, but most of all I loved that she had the Snow White dress for me to try on!!!! :dance3: I have a bunch of dresses saved on a spreadsheet and every time I glance across all of them, my eyes always get caught on the Snow White dress.
A random dress, this one felt good up top, but it just isn’t my style:
rd2.jpg

The Belle dress. DF loves this dress, and loves Belle, but I just don’t dig the pickups or the arm thing:
belle.jpg

I also got to try on many of the other AA Disney dresses, as well as a couple Kirstie Kelly (sp?) Princess dresses. Her Sleeping Beauty is beautiful & really does look like Sleeping Beauty, alas I don’t have pictures of those.
Here’s Snow White:

Of all the ones I tried on, Snow White was definitely my favorite. MOG, MOH, and pBM all cried. I am not a crier, but I was ecstatic in the dress. I stayed in the dress for a long time – probably 30 minutes (we were the only ones there). The owner put some different veils and head pieces on me, and some jewelry. I didn’t think I liked veils but one of them was perfect – had a nice satin trim that matched the belt/bow on the dress. I think it was an elbow length and it felt good. I am definitely going to get a flower/fascinator – she is going to look and see if she can find one that matches the dress. I will probably still go to some bigger stores, David’s Bridal, Alfred Angelo, etc., just to have a larger sample (and because it is fun!), but this is 99% my dress! :cloud9::woohoo:

Congrats!!! Can't wait to read along during your planning. I had an Escape wedding in September. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!!

BTW.. the Snow White dress looks beautiful on you. I was in love with that one too until I tried it on. It just didn't suit me. I wore the Cinderella!!

Good luck with all of your planning, and I hope you get your wedding date!!

Congrats and Welcome!! Glad you started your PJ for us to follow along!
LOVE the Christmas vibe! We are getting married in May, very soft and romantic colors, but if timing had worked I would have gone Christmas-y too, my favorite time of year! :santa:

I got hooked on pinterest shortly after getting engaged in August and am now (unhealthily) obsessed! Here is mine:

Thank you!! I loved your wedding, you were beautiful in Cinderella! Your pics made me really want that dress, but I think my torso is too short for it & perhaps that is why the Snow one works for me. That's what the saleslady was trying to tell me anyway. :goodvibes

Thanks! I just checked out your board, very cool stuff! Do you think you will dye your crinoline? I am on the fence about it. It can be such a fun, unexpected splash of color!

Thanks! I am thinking about it just for pictures, my dress is very fitted so I don't really want any extra in there getting me any hotter. hahaha But I really like the idea! I found one on Etsy I am thinking of buying because I have a front loader and I think you need a top loader to dye one. You'll have to post if you decide to do yours!
