DadMc – Danny’s dad
Lisa and Jaime – Danny’s Sister and Brother in Law and their kids, Meagan 10, Bryce 7 and Johnna 2

I was originally supposed to go to a conference in September for work and Danny was going to join me for a few days at the end, but after September 11th, the conference was cancelled and we decided against taking the trip. We didn’t think we would make it back to Disney this year. I really wanted to go and was bummed that we weren’t going to go back for another couple of years (we are planning a big trip to Hawaii in Sept of 2002) so I started hinting that I would love to go for my birthday/Christmas present.

Danny said he was up for it. So we started planning a long weekend. Then it turned into 5 days, then 6! We have traveled with my parents a couple of times so we decided to ask them to go – of course they said yes! We then thought we would ask Danny’s dad. He came with us last year to Disney and we tired him out so much we thought he would say no for sure, well he said yes too! Then we had casually talked to his sister in the past about going and thought, let’s just ask them (never thinking they would be able to go on such short notice)
but then they said yes!

So what started out as a quick weekend trip has turned out to be a 10 person party for 6 days. After the last trip I really wanted to stay somewhere on the boardwalk and found out about the government rate from the DIS boards so I booked us and my mom and dad at the Swan. I booked at the Disney Card rate for everyone else at All Star Movies through Dreams Unlimited. We then decided we would all go to the Christmas Party and then as a special treat my parents and Danny and I would go to La Nouba. We’ve been twice in December and it has always been closed at this time but we were happy to find out there were shows for the time we would be there. After buying everyone’s flight tickets, Disney passes (and Universal too) we are all set to go….

Day 1 December 13, 2001
Lisa, Jaime and the kids and DadMc all slept over – didn’t get to sleep until 11 ish and up at 2:30 to catch the van for 4:00, picked up mom and dad and we are off. Got to the airport no problem and had plenty of time for coffee and donuts and Duncan Donuts. Flight was a little late taking of but we landed at about 10:20 and we are off to get the vans. We found the hotel no problem.

When we checked in we asked if there were any upgraded rooms available – I said it was my birthday! We got balcony rooms! Our view was the courtyard, the Dolphin and the Yacht Club. Very pretty, bright, cheery room. I forgot that I had DadMc’s park passes in my pouch, so after looking around for them (they were a little late) we all met up and we are in MGM! The weather was perfect, probably about 80-85* and sunny.

We went right over and did Rock-N-Roller Coaster first – what a trip! The kids loved it! No line whatsoever, just walked right on. Then off to Tower of Terror – Bryce not to sure about that one. Had some lunch and mom and dad took of on their own and we caught the parade. Really cute. We then went to find something for Johnna so we did the Disney Playhouse. Everyone groaning that we had to sit on the floor. It was so cute and Johnna was adorable dancing and clapping. I had tears in my eyes for laughing at her antics.

We then walked around some shops a little. Over to the Muppet show, Meagan was cracking up at this one. All three kids got their faces painter – they were amazing. We then met up with mom and dad again for Fantasmic! Once again this blew our minds and brought tears to my eyes. Lisa, Jaime ad kids and DadMc went home and the rest of us hopped a bus to Epcot, not quite ready to end the day yet.

Walked over to Rose and Crown to ask about reservations at about 8:00. They said it was about a 45 minute wait and they couldn’t guarantee a seat on the patio. We didn’t want to wait and chance it but then Danny went up and showed his badge and said it was my birthday (and pleaded and groveled ;)) and she said maybe. They gave us a pager and we sent a couple of emails – it went off in like 15 minutes. We wlak in and pass a couple of tables and I am thinking this is where we will sit,. But no – she takes us, front and center on the upper patio! Unbelievable! My dad said Danny really has some big cahones!

We all got the 5 beer samplers and a couple of appetizers. Kelly our waitress was a hoot. Danny got the pies samplers and we all got the fish and chips. Nice dinner and we had a lot of laughs. At 9:30, Illuminations went off right in front of us. Spectacular! What a way to start a vacation! We had dessert and ready to go. Walk down a side path and hop onto a boat – great exit – got off at the boardwalk and walked home to the Swan. Back to the room and to bed at 11:00. What a wonderful start to my birthday celebration!

What a nice first day---upgrade, beautiful weather, no lines. Sounds great! :)

pumba - yes both kids did the RnR and loved it - you have to try it, its really great and it is over so fast that if you don't like it it will be over before you know it! the sampler was really quite good. There was a pork pie a kinds of shepherds pie and then I think a chicken one. The tasted better than they sounded. I actually liked them better than the fish and chips. thanks for reading!

Great trip report! Boots is a coward and has never done RnR. Maybe someday I will get some courage! Thanks for sharing!
