So i just wanted to post and say hey to everybody.
My name is Norah and I'm 19 and a sophomore at DePauw University in Indiana.
I have suffered from an eating disorder since I was a freshman in high school. I got formally diagnosed freshman year of college.
So now I am trying to eat healthy and stay on the remission boat away from the eating disorder.

I too had an eating disorder in college! I am fitter now than I ever was then and I eat quite well!

Don't be afraid to find a good therapist if you find that you aren't getting the help you need here (it took me YEARS and I did finally find one that cured some elements of anxiety that were catylists to my disorder which I could mostly avoid..but would succomb occasionally). I've not had a recurrance in about 4 years and have no inclination or worries that I'll ever have one again :flower1:

You will find good comraderie here!!!

Welcome!

I am glad you stopped in to say hello. We welcome anyone here and I think you will find some great support from this group. Keep up your hard work on eating healthy and come here more often so we can get to know you and you can get to know us.

Welcome!
Lisa I have been in counseling for about a year and a half now. I am receiving treatment for my eating disorder, anxiety, and Borderline Personality Disorder. I also have books of my own on all the subjects that I read.

If you don't mind me asking...What kind of eating disorder did you have?

I have non-purging bulimia where i binge and then fast.
I always feel incredibly guilty for overeating.

Norah, I think that the fact that you can openly talk about the disorder speaks volumes about how well you're coming to terms with it.

We can help by being a place you can vent, or ask for meal ideas, or just support from people who want you to be the best you can be.

You'll find more moms here than you EVER wanted! :)

Welcome aboard! Glad you found us and I hope you will find a comfy place to come when you need. You will find everyone here most helpful.

I was a binge-purge bulimic--about 6-9 months in college and outed myself during an intoxication fest in college which I got really sick and talked to much. My friends intervened and escorted me to counseling. Though I HATED the counseling--the urges did subside and cropped up every now and then. Morning sickness was the most scary event for me for both children. I didn't once force myself at all--but it was scary none-the-less. I was treated for anxiety pre-baby #1 adn that helped a lot--b/c I would get those butterflies that would throw me over the edge. I was out in 2 months. I was also treated for post partum depression after baby #1 and that helped prevent a recurrence. I still do not like getting sick and having morning sickness and the flu are very miserable events for me and reminders of the past. But I do recover well when I know that the body is doing what it needs to do and I have no responsibility for causing that. My husband is a great support for that.

I don't wish it upon anyone and would suggest anyone to counseling that it seemed that the only treatment that worked for me was a treatment for something other than the disorder itself. Once the anxiety triggers were eliminated it was like problem solved. However-we are like alcholics and always susceptible to a relapse. Great groups like this and healthy ways of life involving a good way of eating, exercise, and mental state are the only tried and true ways of preventing those relapses.

Daughter---know that you are in good company here!!! If the chips are down and you find yourself in a stitch--we are great support group here! Keep posting! I'm 30--and a survivor!

::yes::

Though I will take the road of aunt or big sister or whatever--I may be 30 and the calendar suggests a possibility--I assure you, I am not old enough to be your mother. :rolleyes1 :teeth:

I suffered from an eating disorder (binging and purging bulimia) during the end of college and for a time thereafter. I really shouldn't say suffered, it's still a battle every day with me (and I still slip every now and then). But I work out and try to eat right, and I know what causes this, so I face it head on every day. It really helps to talk about it. Glad you came here Norah!

Hi Norah,

It was great to get to meet you in chat last night. I'm glad your going to join us here on WISH.

HAHA I have lots of Cyber Aunts and Uncles as I call them that look out for me while I am away from home at school.

Hi Norah, it's great to see you here! :)

I wish you all the best as you continue to overcome this. From the time that I have "known" you on the DIS and the short time I was able to spend with you at MVMCP a couple of years ago I know you are a strong, beautiful young woman and I'm very confident that you can achieve whatever you set your mind to! ::yes::

Hi Norah! So glad you decided to join us on the WISH board. Let me tell ya something about these wonderful WISHers ... they will help you accomplish things you never thought possible in your life! They are the best group of supportive and non-judgemental people you will hopefully have the pleasure to someday meet in person. I just recently met a whole whack of WISHers at WDW -- and they are truly wonderful, wonderful friends. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Welcome! :grouphug:
