~ Kate Plus Eight ~

:cutie: Here's a report from someone staying there at the same time:

:goodvibes

I don't even know where to begin with the article.

I can't believe that Steve and Kate actually go around bossing complete strangers into doing what they want them to. It would have been interesting to find out what would have been done or said if the pictures were not erased.

I also find it funny that the babysitter yells at the kids using their first name, middle name combination. When I was growing up that was reserved for serious offenses and only my parents could do that, calling us by our "you're in big trouble" names. :lmao:

When I read that article for the first time, almost two weeks ago, I could only laugh that someone who is an editor for a paper that writes about Kate just happened to show up for R & R at the very same place that Kate and her group were. Darn, what a coincidence!

That she is the editor for the paper that writes about her, but she came just to relax, and not write about her is laughable. If she was hoping to unplug for the first time in years, why go someplace where someone her paper writes about, is filming? Could it have been because she intended to 'gasp' write about her LOL? The paper she is an editor for has never made a secret of how they feel about Kate..surely she knew Kate would be filming there. And all she had to say about Kate, and still Kate posed with her, after she pretended she liked her. tsk tsk.

As for the poplularity of the show..it's been on many of the fan boards when the specials are going to be on. The kids are getting older, so I assume that is a big reason as to why interest isn't the same as it was when they were little...that's been down since before the split. TLC keeps coming up with new shows with multiples as do other channels, hoping one will hit, but there are so many channels showing big families now, I think the newness is well worn off on the show.

As to if Kate's 15 min are up, according to the TV guide survery, she is making $250,000 a show, (their quote)
'That puts her on an equal playing field with Grey's Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey, who has won an Emmy, and well ahead of respected actors like Julianna Margulies ($175,000) and True Blood's Anna Paquin ($75,000).

Another shocker: Glee's Matthew Morrison (who plays Mr. Schuester) earns $30,000 an episode -- the same amount as Jersey Shore's Snooki and Selena Gomez. Jane Lynch, who plays cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester on the Fox hit, earns more: $50,000.'

So while she's waiting for her new series (sans the kids) to start, for a nobody, she's getting paid pretty darn good.

I don't know if it is laughable. Lots of people go to this area, and it isn't to far from Wilmington NC where there are a lot os stars, it is considered that Hollywood of the south. I really don't think people there are that impressed with celebs. And even if she did show up to write about Kate, so what, Kate wants her fame, this is what happens.

I believe it, I actually saw a clip somewhere with Steve telling someone to erase a picture. I don't think it is the least bit unbelievable that the boss people around, Steve, because of who he has done security for, and Kate, well because of her entitlement attitude.

Yes, that was this same lady that he told that to. She wrote about it, that Steve asked her to not take pics of the kids whiile they were playing and to erase the photo's. She also wrote that she knew she didn't have to listen to him, legally, and he offered to let her take a photo with Kate after that. I could care less that she or anyone wrote about what they saw. I just found it interesting that she writes it like she was surprised that Kate and crew were there. She said her parents had been sending her photo's, and she is an editor for a paper that writes unfavorably about Kate. I doubt it was a surprise that she was going to be there. That's the part that I found laughable, that she seemed surprised that they were there. Hey, write away..as many people say, any press is good press for celebrities.
Most of what she wrote about was old news. Kate in a bikini, her c-section scars, her tummy tuck, her 'girls', that the kids had all new beach toys, that Steve's leg brushed Kates...yawn.

Who watched it? I thought it was cute and the kids (well 7 of them anyway LOL) seemed pretty happy. I enjoyed watching their excitement at seeing the green lady and the big buildings. The kids did pretty good in the heat, I would have melted for sure in that weather (actually I did LOL). But then I remembered when I was a kid, and even when I was much younger when my kids were kids, the heat didn't bother me like it does now.

Some of the other people's manners were really bad though, closing in on them at times. I think Kate handled herself well, saying hi back, and being pleasant.

I do have to say though..someone tell Kate to put on a bra..those 'girls' desperately needed some support LOL. And Kate..I know you love your strappies, but sneakers are so much better for getting around NYC!

I did watch it, even though I said I wouldn't. Those kids are getting so big. And Hannah, wow, what a beauty.

Now. I am sure everyone here knows that I am not a big Kate fan. I don't have as much hatred as some do. But the one thing I have never done and in fact I have stood up for, is her looks and the way she dresses.

OK, girlfriend needs some help. Those shoes look terrible with her shorts, yes I know it is the style but I think Kate's ankles or something just isn't right and really for all that walking it looks kind of silly.

Also did anyone else think that she is really starting to look like she was "rode hard and put up wet to dry". sorry but she just looked like leather in the face, I think that tanning is starting to backfire. Also her hair color is terrible. I like her as a blond and even the last show the color was fine, but last night it seemed to be really brassy and cheap looking. LIke I said, I have never commented negatively on her appearance, and actually have always found her quite attractive, but last night, especially during the interview on the couch section, she looked rough.

And yes people are rude, they don't need to crowd. I would have freaked out.

I was a big fan of this family in the beginning and through the years, my admiration has waned a little...Kate gets on my nerves some now, but I still watch. I have never felt the need to bash Kate (I wouldn't want to be in her shoes!) but I do feel the need to say that she really shouldn't have been wearing that black halter top in last nights show! Geez...her ****s were just hanging all out of it! And yeah, the heels for walking all around NYC...really ridiculous IMHO.

I used to watch Jon and Kate all the time to see the kids grow up. Now :rolleyes1

Watching Kate last night, those clothes were certainly not appropriate for a mom trying to watch 8 kids. Climbing the ladder in those shoes, sheesh. And like others said, those girls need a home.

I didn't notice, so I guess I, well, didn't notice LOL. She looked like she was hot and was sweating..but then the heat index in NYC during that time was 107. I didn't think she looked like leather..but I think if she keeps up tanning she will. But I guess that's her choice.

I seldom say anything about what she wears, cause again, it's her choice, but man, high shoes in NYC, and going up that ladder and walking around (but she did make it up it!) had to be uncomfortable.

And if she did get her 'girls' fixed, they sure don't stand up like other people's who have been fixed. I did wonder if they dressed her like that so people would stop saying she had them fixed..because for sure last night it didn't look it LOL. I was thinking of the song,

Do your ears hang low?
Do they wobble to and fro?
Can you tie them in a knot?
Can you tie them in a bow?
Can you throw them o'er your shoulder
like a continental soldier?
Do your ears hang low?

every time they showed her. And I like her LOL!!
:happytv:.

Her hair is a pretty light blond, I liked it better when she had depth to it, not all one flat color. But again, I don't have to like it, she does LOL. I went blond for a week..everyone said they liked it. I hated it, so I went back to dark brown, cause I had to live with it.

The most important thing I thought about the show, was how relaxed she seems with the kids now and what a good time they had together in NYC.

I thought she was looking a little old too! I usually have nothing bad to say about her, but really that black halter top had to go! Too much side ****age as my husband put it! If I had to handle all those kids something would surely pop out! A few times during the show I thought oh, my she shoudln't have said that or done that because that's going to be all over the DIS...lol

Didn't watch, forgot. Taping it tonight.

I dread seeing the ****age, lol, and the heels. And probably the hair color. That'll bug me.

I've really lost interest in the show, but still love the kids. My only two comments are:

*that I kind of chuckled about with all the history Kate has about the kids being messy, that she would literally shove melting ice cream cones in the kids' faces.

*Kate's gum chewing is really annoying me!

But I do love that she takes them places to see new things and keeps on rolling with them~

Regarding the ice cream cones... Not sure about the place she bought them but almost every place we've ever gone they offer you a cup or cone for the ice cream. Seeing as it was so hot and the ice cream was going to melt, why not get it in a cup? :confused3

Or park a little closer? I know it is NYC but seriously there werent other ice cream places that you didnt have to run blocks to get to and from? I think it is funny how she used to be so anal about messiness and now is shoving the ice cream in their faces but I think it is great that she has finally loosened up and realized it is ok for them to get a little messy.

I know she is trying to renew herself after the divorce and all but the heels have to go. Seriously dress for the event and wear comfortable appropriate shoes when you are walking around NYC. They can be stylish just not those high heels.

Plus, in general, don't kids love cones? As a kid I was disappointed when my mom would make me get a cup or when a cone wasn't available. There's still something special about a ice cream cone (besides added calories, lol)

I think one definitely evolves in motherhood---when DD was younger, I was much the same about the messiness. In fact, I've said it here many times but the original ice cream "fiasco" at WDW was my first episode and, in that moment, I was was enthralled. I remember standing there watching it and sitting down for more because that was so me. Now, I know that paints a horrid picture of myself to you all but it was the truth--although, I probably would have put a change of clothes in the locker at WDW.

All that to say, I'm much less high strung and needing perfection than I used to be. :) So, maybe you all would like me better now. ;)

I'd now make a mess with DD with some ice cream. :) Years ago, NEVER.

I watched part of last night's episode, but not the whole thing. Those shoes were ridiculous (and I also don't care how she dresses). She was obviously very uncomfortable in the heat, but so was I taking my kids to WDW in June (or anywhere outside in Texas for half of the year) - just suck it up. I didn't think it was all that nice of her to jump at the chance of driving the boat and leave all her kids below wishing they could drive the boat. I understand that it was probably too dangerous for them to climb the ladder and all, but she seemed more excited about her experience than theirs.

I didn't watch the part in the Statue of Liberty gift shop when they got mobbed - but I'm sure it would have been crazy. That place is PACKED all of the time.

It was interesting to see them on a "regular" trip - not with VIP access to everything - just walking around Chinatown. I thought it was typical Kate when they decided to sit at 2 tables in the restaurant and she declared "Okay, 3 kids come sit with Mommy - or 2" Out of 8? Wouldn't it be easier to just divvy them up in 4?

They also don't seem to have a buddy system set up, which I would implement stat. There's a reason that schools always do that on field trips.

Anybody see Kate at the Emmys? :rotfl2:

No, I forgot they were on and watched True Blood instead. So do tell! I guess Kate "danced?":rolleyes1

More boring legal stuff! The battle for the reform of Child Labor laws PA grinds on. Z on TV sometimes irritates me, but I'm glad he is following this story.

The Department of Labor and Industry responds to Rep Murt's letter questioning whether the Dept. had the authority to issue work permits for television employment to the Gosselin children under age seven under the existing statute and regs: http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/zontv/2010/08/kate_plus_8_gosselin_kids_work.html

A very convoluted letter bursting with odd legal "precedents" to do with television and movies being viewed in bars not child labor. It is a very odd response from a regulatory agency, IMO.

And Rep Murt responds to the Dept of Labor and Industry:
http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/zontv/2010/08/kate_plus_8_gosselin_kids_work.html

Again, IMO, Rep. Murt nailed the issue with this paragraph:

"Statutory words have meaning. The use of “television” and “motion picture” in one subsection, and the use of only “motion picture” in the following subsection, cannot simply be ignored. If “television” and “motion picture” are the same thing, for the purposes of the Child Labor Law, they would not be listed separately. Pennsylvania’s Statutory Construction Act provides several explanations of this concept. “Every statute shall be construed, if possible, to give effect to all its provisions.” 1 Pa.C.S. § 1921(a). The “General Assembly intends the entire statute to be effective and certain.” 1 Pa.C.S. § 1922(2)."

:thumbsup2 Rep. Murt! The law obviously needs to be clarified for the sake of all children working in entertainment in PA -- and for the DOL!
