Day Nine—Thursday, August 21, 2003
Cast of characters:
Me (Karen)—The planner of the trip and family Disney Nut

Today was the one day that I had an entire day to myself to do whatever I wanted to do. I was psyched to have some time just for me in my favorite place. I started the day with the character breakfast at the Cape May Café. It’s my favorite character breakfast because I really love the food there. I was a bit disappointed to see that they no longer serve roast beef hash, though. That was my favorite part of the breakfast there, and the thing that made the breakfast unique. But, I still had a great meal, and got a little massage from Goofy. I think he likes me. Haha.

After breakfast, I took the bus to the Magic Kingdom for the Keys to the Kingdom tour. Jennifer was my tour guide, and she was very good. She gave us lots of information, and I learned quite a bit that I didn’t know, or had forgotten about. A lot of the information they gave us came straight out of the One Man’s Dream attraction over at MGM, so it was a bit frustrating to have to listen to Jennifer talk for a half an hour about things that I had heard about during One Man’s Dream.

I had taken the tour a few years ago, and liked it better back then. The highlight of the tour is the utilidors. When I took the trip three years ago, we spent a lot of time down there, visiting costuming and cosmetology. This time, we only spent about 10 minutes in there utilidors, and the most exciting thing we saw was the garbage chute. The most interesting thing we learned about the garbage in Disney is that they go through it by hand before sending it to the landfill. I don’t want that job.

When our tour stopped for lunch at the Columbia Harbor House, another guest relations cast member was there to answer our questions. His name was David, and I wish that he could have had him as a tour guide. He was so much fun to listen to, and very easy on the eyes ;) He was very animated in his story telling, and he really held everyone’s interest. Oh, and did I mention that David was very easy on the eyes? I can’t stress that enough. David was very easy on the eyes. Nothing against Jennifer, but David is, well, I won’t go there. Afterall, this is a family message board.

After the tour ended, I decided to head back to the Beach Club for a dip. The clouds got darker and darker the closer we got to the Beach Club. Another torrential downpour started as soon as the bus pulled up at the Beach Club, so the swim was out. I went to my room, sat on the balcony, and watched the storm for a while. I then got ready for my 5:30 priority seating at Alfredo’s.

I walked through the raindrops to Alfredo’s, and arrived about 35 minutes early for my priority seating. They brought me to a table right away. As I mentioned in an early post, I was on a silver package, so I was going to have a big meal tonight. I started off with a caesar salad. I really love the cheese wafer that they put on their caesar salad. It was very yummy. For my entrée, I chose a sampler plate that included fettucine alfredo, lasagna, and gnocchi pomodoro. The food was excellent, but very filling. I left most of the fettucine on my plate to save room for dessert. I got chocolate mousse for dessert and it was very yummy. I restrained myself from licking the dish.

It was still raining when I got out of Alfredo’s so I left Epcot and headed back to the Beach Club to freshen up before heading over to Jellyrolls. I arrived at Jellyrolls at about 7:30, and was the first one in the bar. I ended up leaving for a bit, and walking around the Boardwalk. I went back a few minutes before eight so I could be there for the first set of the evening. I grabbed a bar stool in the back, and waited for the fun to begin. Scotty and Ray were the first piano guys of the evening, and I absolutely loved them. They just play off each other so well. There were only about a dozen people in the bar at that point, so it was fun and intimate. Ray was asking everyone where they were from (although he never asked me), and Scotty finally said, “Hello in the back” to me, so I shouted hello.

Christian and Drew were the second pair of piano guys. I enjoyed there set, but they weren’t nearly as good as Scotty and Ray. Drew seemed a bit bored up on stage, and Christian was a bit over animated. The best part of their set was when they did "Love Shack"--Christian did a pretty good imitation of the guy from the B-52s.

When Scotty and Ray came out for their second set, I was completely hooked. I had planned on leaving Jellyrolls by 10:00 or 11:00, but after seeing them, I knew I had to stay until their last set, which ended at 1:00am. I requested “Big Yellow Taxi,” and Ray did a great job on the song. Scotty did an awesome version of “Buttercup,” which was probably my favorite song that any of the guys did all night--and I don't even particularly like that song. Just love the way Scotty sings it. Oh, and Scotty does an awesome "Rainbow Connection" (the song that Kermit the Frog sings). It is just so cute and adorable.

I was having so much fun that I put a couple of $10 tips on Scotty's piano without even requesting songs. After his last set of the evening, Scotty came over and sat down and gabbed with me for a few minutes. Very sweet guy.

I left Jellyrolls and walked back to the Beach Club at about 1:15am. It was pretty neat walking back to the hotel. It was a beautiful night and there wasn't another person around.

Cinderella in her slip? Was she missing her glass slipper as well? You certainly do get to see some interesting things backstage. I'll be posting about my Undiscovered Future World tour soon.

I really like Alfredo's. Of course, I like any place that I can get really good chocolate mousse. I always try to eat there when I go to Disney.

Loved Jellyrolls. It was my most favorite thing that I did during my entire trip. I spent five hours there one night, and almost four hours there another night (which will be in trip report for day 10, but some of which has been posted in my Jellyrolls thread on the theme park boards). Just loved Scotty and Ray to death. I've been telling everyone with ears about Jellyrolls, and my favorite piano guys--endearingly dorky Scotty, and laidback Ray.

Sounds like a great night out. Something I might have to try (when and if I ever get back to WDW).

I think ANY WDW tour really depends on the CM giving the tour. We did the Keys back in 97 and the guide was not very good. We did get a lot of backstage views, but I just wasn't impressed. However I did the Secrets of the World Showcase that same year and the guide there was fantastic. But when I did the Futureworld tour in 2001 the guide was really lousy (she had some of the facts WRONG!). I think they really need to give you rare information on these tours and treat the people who are on them as Disney-holics who already know most everything. I don't want to go on a tour and be told wrong info or stuff that I already knew (because I'm a Disney Dork).
