This is one of my favorite kinds of rides, and I'll be sad to miss out on it when we're there in April.

Please don't get me wrong, I'm GLAD to skip anything that would hurt the baby, but I don't want to miss out on rides that I could handle. I'm just not sure when it says that "pregnant women shouldn't ride" for a particular ride, does it mean during ANY point of pregnancy, or just the last trimester, or what?

Anyone ridden it and found it to be no big deal?

I've been to WDW during both my pregnancies and Kali is on the Do Not Ride list for me. The biggest drop I will take on a ride when pregnant is the hill in POTC. When they warn pregnant women should not ride, I take it as being during your entire pregnancy. That being said, I will ride on the safari, even though it warns pregnant women shouldn't ride. If you can take your infant on it, I think its okay. If there is a height restriction, it is a no go for me.

Gotcha. Thanks for the advice, I'll forgo it as well then. I am hoping to do the safari, and wasn't sure if kali would be similar, ie, a ride that you shouldn't ride if you're very far along but okay otherwise. It's important to me to be as safe as possible, but I also don't want to be overly-vigilant (if that makes sense).

I would never do the safari pregnant. It is way to bumpy. There are times throughout the ride you come right up of the seat bouncing up and down hard several times in a row. JMO but no way for me. Why chance it. I agree a bout Kali I wouldnt do that either.

If you do the Safari, try to sit near the front of the ride, because it's less bouncy there. I did it at 8 wks along, but don't know that I would chance it during the 2nd or 3rd trimester. That is just me.

I did the Safari early in pregnancy but we just went in December (2nd trimester) and I didn't do anything that said "no pregnant moms" LOL. Someone had told me the concern is the placenta separating or something from the sudden jarring motions and jerking of the rides. Not sure how accurate it is but I'm not taking chances.

It was actually nice to go find a bench and relax while DH took the kids on the rides I couldn't do! I think it helped me get thru the day LOL.

The Safari should be OK. You can ask the operator to sit up front in the special needs section, it is alot less bumpy up there on purpose.

Ditto

I rode Kali on our last trip when I was 9 weeks pregnant. I had no problems. I had my DH ride most things first and then tell me if they were too rough or fine for me to ride. Or I would ask someone standing in line how rough it was. I didn't go on any roller coasters, etc, but I didn't have any problems with Kali. And this was while I was still in the nausea/morning sickness time.
Of course, it is best to check with your doctor first about your personal circumstance. I've never had any complications which does affect what you can and cannot do. Doctor knows best.
Good luck. I hope you have a great vacation.

Don't take a chance! The probabiliy is low that you would miscarry but what if you did? Can you handle losing a baby because you didn't want to miss a ride? There is no way that I would ride the Safari even in the special needs section. If there is a pregnancy warning, heed it.

Wow, I would think this would be a no-brainer. I'm shocked that so many people take the statement that preagnat woman shouldn't ride so lightly.

People write this all the time, but I can report it is no less bumpy in the first row than farther back (unless you are talking about the back 1/3 of the tram). The warning still applies to the first row.

When we go to WDW with our youngest DD, we sit in the front row because she needs to stay in her wheelchair. The very front row is the only one that a wheelchair can be loaded into. We have also ridden many times in various other rows without her.
How bumpy it is depends on how many ruts in the road the driver hits. Some of our rides with DD have been VERY bumpy (enough that her wheelchair tilts and shakes even though it is securely tied down to the tram). In fact, some of our 'wheelchair rides' have been bumpier than some of our rides without a wheelchair.
So I can say with a great deal of certainty that they don't make it less bumpy on purpose for people with special needs.

I agree! Really what is the big deal about "missing out" on a couple of rides?? Why would you take a chance if there is a pregnancy warning? :confused3

I stayed off every ride with a warning for pregnant women except for the Safari. The bus ride to the park was much worse than the safari. It is a judgement call you will have to make, but it is just like a bumpy car ride. Skip Kali, enjoy the safari.

Sorry but I totally disagree with both of these statements. In all my trips I have never been on a bus ride anything like the safari. As for riding in a car If you hit a very bumpy road you slow down. On the safari they speed up on purpose over the bumpy parts. Like a previous poster said they have the pregnancy warning for a reason.

Another poster said the front is less bumpy. Not in my experience. I have ridden in the very front row, middle, and back and they are all just as bumpy as the next.

OP again why chance it. You never know what could happen.

I am probably going to get blasted for this but I need to say it anyways. If a ride has a warning it is there for a reason. Why risk it, be grateful that you are pregnant. There are many woman out there who cannot become pregnant or need assistance getting pregnant. Please dont take pregnancy for granted. It is 9 months out of your life. I believe, that we as mother's we can follow simple rules of not to ride a ride when there is a risk.

Sorry, just my opinion.

Just my opinion but women were pregnant long before paved roads and even cars. Women rode across America in covered wagons for months, they rode horses, and did countless other things that may be considered dangerous for unborn babies. Babies are very well protected in utero, a ten minute ride with bumps is going to be okay. The warning is there because if anything happens, Disney is protecting themselves. It is only my opinion, please don't blast me for it. This is the point of Disboards, to share opinions. If you don't agree, move on or simply state your own views.

Yes, and back in the day doctors would go from being elbow deep in a cadaver to delivering a baby without washing their hands in between. Countless women died. My point is we've come a long way from "back in the day" and countless hours of research and science have given us a much better insight into such situations. If there's a safer way to do something, why risk it because you know of someone who "got away" with the alternative? JMHO.

The thing is we know better now than we did then. The risks people used to take don't really matter, because we are not living the same way we used to.

And even more recent history can be used to make the point. We don't put kids in the front seats of cars unbelted, which is where I used to ride when I was a child. Most kids now wear helmets when the ride their bikes. We never had helmets when I was a child. Knowing that the ride is labeled as dangerous for a preagnant woman to ride, any woman who still does so while preagnant is being grossly negligent.

I was pregnant for our last visit. We went at the end of May and I was due Dec 12th. I did not ride anything that said "pregnant women should not ride". My thought was Disney will always be there and there will be another opportunity to go on the rides. We are going back in May, and now I am free to ride anything I want. Will be doing TOT, RRC, Test Track for the first time!
