Kali River Rapids refurb extended

If you don't have a poncho, and you don't want to get completely soaked, it's everyone's choice whether to ride or not to ride. But that takes 1 out of the 3 thrill attractions in the entire park off of the table for a LARGE number of people.
I don't consider it a thrill ride really. Also I went in January when it was down for refurb already. I had a fantastic time without riding it. AK has a ton of stuff you can do instead of riding Kali. In my opinion it's a very underestimated park.

The Key phrase in your statement is "grew up". There are a tremendous number of kids and adults who have already grown up, who do not wish to get soaked, and don't want to have to take a poncho with them just to ride a ride. It's a bad design. We love Splash Mountain. You get a little splash here and there but not completely drenched.
Then don't ride Kali. I've never been on a raft ride like this where I don't get wet if not drenched. It's one of the major points of the ride.

So very true
We only ride Kali on a summer trip
Any time is not in the 80s we pass on Kali
AK is still one of our favorites
I picked it as the first park to take my mom to on her first first in April

You don't have to worry about that. AK is a 1/2 day park and Kali is a contributing factor, because it's a major attraction and too few people are riding it.

False on so many levels. AK is not a half day park. Some people need to look past the number of rides. There is plenty do there besides rides. Right now besides the magic kingdom it's the best theme park in terms of actual theming in Florida.

Just read these boards. Almost EVERYONE says it's a 1/2 day park, and it is.

And I hope everyone continues to think this way. Makes for a wonderfully quiet park day. Everyone, keep spreading the word that AK is boring with poor rides and little to do ;)
Cause those of us that know better are happily enjoying all day, if not 2 days, there.

You know a ride has issues if you have to buy ponchos to ride it. We brought ponchos the last time we rode it. What they really need to do is to completely redesign the raft to where that wouldn't be necessary. The ride has one big drop to where it's a roulette wheel as to whether you get wet or drenched. The rest of the ride is nothing but a slow raft ride that slowly turns and bumps the sides. Very few people want to get completely drenched at an amusement park and that is something that should never happen.

We get it, we get it, you don't like to get wet. But you are not everybody, not even close - and you don't represent even the older generation either. Plenty of older people like to get soaked on that ride, my mom and me included. Luckily, WDW doesn't just cater to one type of person.

Well, we've had long lines when we've gone, lots of people waiting to get on it. Before EE, it was a half day park, if you were just looking for thrill rides. We spend at least 3/4 of a day there, or two half days, as we do both trails, eat at Yak and Yeti, see the shows, etc. But really, if you want just thrill rides, go to Universal...

KRR has the best queue besides EE. If you don't think it's themed enough then you are definitely missing that part of the attraction.

You know, we've always treated AK as a 1/2 day park, but on our last trip I really felt like we could have spent a lot longer. Maybe next time we'll learn our lesson and schedule more time there.

Kali and Splash are SO different.

1. It's sad when Dollywood and Six Flags can make a ride better than Disney, and YEARS earlier at that.

It would depend on the ride honestly. Six Flags has come out with some AMAZING attractions over the years, along with Dollywood. When it comes to a raft ride like Kali, I can see a point, sort of, but I still give those two parks credit for being able to be creative when they want to be. Outside of that specific ride type, Both theme parks can kill it, especially with Roller Coasters.

THIS!
Does anyone know what they are doing to the ride? I have also felt like it's kind of lackluster attraction, for all the reasons stated above. I was hoping for so much more.

You are flat out wrong. You may not like the design but it is not a bad design. When a rider gets wet it is operating as designed. Kali is different than splash. Kali is designed to get you wet. Period.
Disagree. It's poorly designed. My reference is Fury of the Nile at Worlds of Fun. Multiple opportunities to get wet (which is fine with me). Kali is slow boat ride--TIDAL WAVE--slow boat ride. Boring, IMHO.

But there's someone else on the thread complaining that they hate getting wet, that they prefer Splash Mountain because you just get splashed. So do you make it more tame to make that person happy, or give more opportunities to get wet, as you would like? Disney has gone for something in the middle, I assume in an attempt to please the majority of people.

I haven't ridden Kali in years because my son has always been too small, but we go to AK more than we go to any other park. My son LOVES this park, actually so do I. This summer I think he'll be tall enough for Kali so maybe we'll give it a try again.

O/T but thank you for saying Fury of the Nile! I read this thread a couple days ago and thought lovingly back to my childhood, when we went to WoF multiple times a year, and how much I liked the river rapids ride. But I could NOT remember the name of it, and it's been bugging me for a couple days! Yes, I could have googled it, but there's no fun in that, eh? So anyway, thanks :)
