I came here to see what the story is, since I received an email today switching my FP to Dinosaur. I guess you all answered my question. Now I know it's going to be warm when we're there the 1st week of March!

You know a ride has issues if you have to buy ponchos to ride it. We brought ponchos the last time we rode it. What they really need to do is to completely redesign the raft to where that wouldn't be necessary. The ride has one big drop to where it's a roulette wheel as to whether you get wet or drenched. The rest of the ride is nothing but a slow raft ride that slowly turns and bumps the sides. Very few people want to get completely drenched at an amusement park and that is something that should never happen.

You aren't serious are you? It is operating 100% as intended by soaking people at random. Kali is a water ride and that should never be changed. If you do not want to be drenched you should indeed wear a poncho or skip the ride.

Aw, I don't know about that! I grew up going to Six Flags Great Adventure and wishing that I got the seat that got the most soaked on Congo Rapids! It's not a malfunction of the ride, it's intentional. That said (as an adult!) we had scheduled it for the end of the day so that if we did get soaked we weren't walking around the rest of the day with squishy shoes (as I remember so fondly from my youth).

Same here. I grew up going to Opryland (to show you how old I am!) and we rode Grizzly River Rampage over and over again hoping to get soaked! Ah the foolishness of youth.

Now I do like you, we book our Kali FP for the last part of the day. We ride, hope we get soaked because ya know, some things you don't fully outgrow, and then head out. By the time we walk out we are dry enough that the AC on the bus doesn't freeze us out. If it's not warm enough to be comfortable soaked we don't ride.

Ours got switched to Dinosaur because we already had Safari and EE as FP that day. We won't likely use the Dinosaur FP because my daughter hates it but we could just switch it for something else. I was a bit concerned about getting wet anyways as that was set for our last day at the parks after having to check out in the morning.

If you don't have a poncho, and you don't want to get completely soaked, it's everyone's choice whether to ride or not to ride. But that takes 1 out of the 3 thrill attractions in the entire park off of the table for a LARGE number of people.

I should have been more specific. I meant call or email if they were unable to get the new FP+ that they wanted due to availability. It it was unable, I'd bet Disney would still give it to them - or an anytime pass - for the inconvenience of losing the first one.

There are a tremendous number of kids and adults who have already grown up, who do not wish to get soaked, and don't want to have to take a poncho with them just to ride a ride. It's a bad design. We love Splash Mountain. You get a little splash here and there but not completely drenched.

Not always.

If you get stuck at the spot next to the big drop when the water cannons go off (as log on the drop hits the water), you can get pretty darn soaked from those cannons.

Granted, it doesn't happen often. It's happened to us only once out of maybe 25 times.

With Splash you get soaked once in 25 rides (for example)
With Kali you stay dry once in 25 rides

My understanding is at "some point" it will be reassigned to something else. I decided not to chance availability and rescheduled mine already.

I wish they would treat it the same as if a ride goes down the day of during your window. Issue an any time FP.

Kali and Splash are SO different.

1. Splash has SO much to offer besides "getting wet." It is one of, if not the best dark rides (other than probably Haunted Mansion) in all of WDW. There is also the thrill of the drop and the incredible theming. Kali on the other hand is possibly the worst raft ride I've ever been on. It's sad when Dollywood and Six Flags can make a ride better than Disney, and YEARS earlier at that.

2. As already mentioned, you can ride Splash with a relative certainty that you won't get soaked. I've never gotten wet enough for it to cause an annoyance or discomfort. Most of the time I can wipe off my face and let the top of my shorts take 15 minutes to dry. Kali on the other hand, there is a 50/50 chance you will come out of there as wet as if you jumped in a pool fully clothed, and with no theming, story, thrill, or entertainment to justify the ride.
