Is there a place to store your shoes while you are on this ride? We went several years ago, and I think I remember removing my shoes but I can't remember where we put them!:o

There is a covered space in the center of the ride where you can put most anything you want to keep dry. I've always put my shoes there in the past. However, when we were there last week, there were signs all along the line saying you had to wear shoes. For once I was wearing sandles that could get plenty wet; so i can't really tell you how much they were inforcing it.

Sorry
Jenn

I remember reading a post yesterday that there is a new rule that you must have shoes on while riding this ride. I am sure some other diser's have more info on this.

We rode it in late March and didn't see a sign, but we got on in the handicapped area (you still wait in the regular line, but you board at a place where your "boat" is trapped and kept still for boarding). The other people on our boat took their shoes off and put them in the middle, but they did that after we were actually started up the first hill!
There is a rail all the way around the center of the boat for you to put your feet on to keep them out of the water. My youngest DD was not able to do that and her shoes got completely soaked. The rest of us (me, DH, my mom and my ten yr old niece) kept our feet up on the rail and no one got their shoes wet (although my mom got completely soaked otherwise).
I wouldn't be surprized if they require shoes on the ride. The other people in our boat had to scramble to get their shoes on when the ride was finished (and 2 of them got off holding their shoes).

Oh, okay. I thought I remembered putting my shoes somewhere BEFORE getting on the ride (like RIGHT before) and then retrieving them after. But my memory of it is very foggy and I could be totally confusing it with something else. (Obviously there is a large hole in my head and info is just falling out!! :jester: )
Thanks for the info.

My DW and I bought some water shoes for just this kind of ride. They are a cross between sandles and flip-flops [shower shoes] and are compleately waterproof. You can buy them in just about any store that sells walking/jogging/athletic type shoes and are priced between $20 & $30 a pair.

I don't think you're confused at all. There is a large storage area in the middle of each vehicle that can be used to protect items from the water. I have placed my shoes in this storage bin in the past to keep them from getting wet.

However, recent visitors are reporting that Disney has posted signs indicating that shoes MUST now be worn throughout the ride. This change was just made in the last month or two.

Feeling better about that memory now? :)

I was at WDW in December and rode Kali and we took our shoes off. My guess is that it slows the unloading process because people try to put their shoes on as the boat "docks" and you need to get off. It's really much safer for you to have your shoes on when exiting the ride. If you go in the summer, just wear your Tevas or pack some water shoes in a plastic bag for the ride. Getting wet is what the ride's all about :).

I rode it a couple weeks ago and you were supposed to keep your shoes on.

Last time I rode this ride was in Dec 01...but didn't they ALSO (in addition to the "dry storage" on the boat) have something like little cubbies where you could store your shoes right BEFORE going onto the "dock" to get in the boat? Am I imagining this?

No matter what, if you're in "that seat", you're gonna get soakec. (you know which seat I'm talking about - that one that always seems to get SOAKED during the ride...FI and I were unfortunately sitting in THAT SEAT and had to leave AK becuase we were DRENCHED!

but I second wearing Tevas or something quick drying like that...makes sense they'd want you to keep your shoes on though...just for quickness in getting on/off the ride.

I have another question about this ride that hopefully someone can answer.

On all our previous visits my ds was too young to ride this ride, and my dw and I didn't have a strong desire to get soaking wet. However, this year he has informed us that he is tall enough and really wants to go. No problem.

The question I have is: Do the boats spin in circles, and can the riders make the boats spin in circles? My DW gets motion sickness and can't even ride the carousel w/o getting dizzy! If it's a few spins one way then a few the other, no big deal. But I thought I read where the riders can get the boat spinning fast.

Thanks,

When we were there last year, you could put your shoes in the bin, but i kept mine on and just put them on the bar I was totally drenched but my feet stayed dry.

poohangel:)

I have a problem with motion sickness, too, but have never experienced any problem on Kali.

The boats do spin some, but not so much that she should be bothered by it. The drenching is usually the main problem!!:D
