How do you stay dry on the Kali River Rapids and does it really keep you dry.
We missed this the last two times we were down and in the need to do all rides are going to try when we're down in Dec. So it might be chilly and I keep hearing that you get super wet on this one. From those stories I can't belive that wearing a poncho is going to do much for you.

Let me know of your experiences?

I don't!

To me, getting wet (and cooling off) is the whole reason I ride Kali.

YMMV.

I am not sure why anyone would ride this - unless they want to get wet! But in December, I can understand.

We rode in August with peoplw who wore ponchos - and they stayed dry.

We were SOAKED and brought a change of clothes and kept those in the lockers at the front of the park. If you do this - don't forget dry socks and underwear!

to keep your socks dry, take them off and put them in the bin and keep your shoes on. You can't take them off anymore and then if you are wearing shoes that are made out of anyting except leather and want to keep them dry prop them up on the bin where you store items.

In the summer we just get soaked and it feel awesome. In the winter however, we have used ponchos and they really did keep us dry.

We use our ponchos and stay dry. They aren't the cheap $1 ponchos, so not sure if that makes a difference.

I'm not opposed to being wet, but the weather is always a factor. We went in Sept it was so humid, DH decided against wearing his poncho and got soaked, which made walking around very uncomfortable.

We'll be bringing them again for this ride, since we are traveling in Dec as well and I don't want to catch a chill.

After riding the rapids at Kennywood in Pittsburgh, I'll never again say that you get wet on Kali. Shoot, I don't think I've ever gotten more than a sprinkle on Kali, and that came from the people on the bridge shooting water at me. At Kennywood, I got so wet that I had to go to the restroom and take my underwear and socks off to dry.

There's always the chance with Kali that you may get wet coming down the big hill, but it really isn't that bad. A poncho would be more than enough. Now, no matter what you do, your pants will get a little wet (on the backside) simply because the seats are wet. So, if that's a concern, put something down to sit on.

If you are really concerned about getting wet, then wear a poncho and take a towel. There are bathrooms near the exit to Kali, and you can go in there to dry off and/ or warm up. But, I don't think you'll have that much to worry about.

Now, if you're going to be in Pittsburgh any time soon...

If we don't want to get soaked, we wear ponchos. One time, when we were in line to buy ponchos, a lady came up to us and gave us the ones they had worn. She said that they had been passed on to them by people who had ridden earlier. So when we got off, we passed them on to some people who were headed toward the booth to buy some. I thought that was fun and smart and another way that guests were getting in on spreading the pixie dust.

I was just on the Hershey version of Kali Rapids and we got out of control soaked. It was like we rode under hoses dumping water on us for the whole ride.

This is just my assumption from riding in different months of the year....but I believe they 'turn down' the splash in cooler months. A poncho in December will keep you dry. In the summer months, a poncho will keep you from getting soaked.

we love that ride BECAUSE we get wet! No staying dry for us! Although I have seen some people wear a poncho while riding...I don't know how well it works though!

This is such a good idea. We will be hitting the dollar store for ponchos(hope they work) and storing clothes with socks and underwear in the locker, just in case. Thanks SMEP013.

By the way, this whole thread is because of december and the weather. If I was going to any other 75 degree or better time of year, this would not be an issue. I am not a water wimp...just a cold one

We just get on and take our chances! One time we got soaked (came off literally dripping wet), one time barely a couple drops. And I agree with the person who expects to/wants to get wet on Kali. As Sparky Griswold says, "It's all part of the experience, dear." One time, we got off and a lady pointed to DH and said, "Sir, your but's all wet!" "Thank you for looking!" he replied. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I've never gotten wet on Kali, and neither have the people on the ride with me, really. The ride is sooooo short and I wonder how everyone is getting so soaked! Oh well, maybe I just ride at the wrong times, haha.

I don't....getting wet is the best part...However, I make sure I'm NOT wearing a white shirt!!!

Exactly what I forgot to do last trip!

Not to hijack the thread, but the person who said that said Kennywood makes Kali look dry reminded me of THE wettest ride I've ever been on...those River Barge things at Islands of Adventure!!

My sister and I were wringing out wet from that one. Like, not in a happy-this-is-fun kind of way. In an I-so-wet-I'm-never-gonna-dry kind of way. A miserable kind of way. A dripping from head to toe and everywhere in and under and in between. I'm pretty sure we almost drowned.

Kali's not like that. Ponchos will help, and I usually bring a large zip loc bag to put my cameras in it before I stick them in the middle thingy.

We were on Kali last December and I did not want to get soaked (I hate walking around in wet clothes). I wore a poncho and carried very lightweight sandals in my backpack to change into before I went on.
I got splashed pretty good, but was protected and my feet were dry!
My sons had wet feet, but we brought a change of socks for them. It worked out fine.
Have fun!

we just returned home from another wonderful trip last week. Kali is one of my favorite rides at disney and I enjoy getting wet, but of course the weather is hot and humid so getting wet helps!!!!! I just laughed to myself when I see people wearing ponchos. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of this ride- it is a water ride after all??????
