Just wondering

I always just assumed that everyone got spring break the week before or the week after Easter. However I am now seeing that a lot of you don't.

So I guess my question is, is it just CA schools that do this? And for the rest of you how many days do you get around easter? Do you just get Good Friday off or any other days?

The reason I ask is because if not that many schools get the actual week before easter off then I was wondering why it is so crowded at the parks.

My kids get a week off in Feb for president's week, a week at thanksgiving and the week before easter. And of course the 2 weeks of Christmas but I think that is one thing pretty much EVERYONE gets.

I used to take my kids out of school but can no longer do that cuz they are older and it is too hard on their grades.

SOO I am wondering now if not everyone gets that week off if it would be feasible to go then or is there some other reason that is a busy week.

I almost wish my kids got the week off some other time cuz it would seem that would be a good time to go when not EVERYONE else has it off.

TIA for any info and insight.

We live in the South Bay Area and our Spring break isn't until one week after Easter April 16-20 (when we're going to WDW). We get all the others you get except no full week at Thanksgiving just the two days and sometimes that Wednesday for my daughter in elementary (my son in HS doesn't get that day).

I don't know why it is so crowded specifically during those times. Maybe it's just all the near by folks and locals have those two weeks and they take their vacations then? :confused3

We have the week of March 19th off this year. Ours always involves St. Patricks day somehow. If Easter falls early and is close to that week, so be it. I like it when Easter is in April, so there are a few less people to deal with when we go.
We also get a week at Thanksgiving, 2 weeks at christmas, and sometimes 1 day for Presidents day, but it is listed as an inclement weather day, so if we have bad weather (like this year), we go to school then. The same for Good Friday. That really surprises me since I live in the bible belt! (Oklahoma). We are headed to DLR next week, and I am a little worried since a couple of years ago the state of AZ had the same week as us, and the parks were pretty full! But we still had a blast! And this time we are taking my future son-in-law for his 1st ever Disney trip before he goes into the air force, so I am doubly excited!!!

My dd gets 2 weeks off at Easter (I just remembered that), and 3 weeks off at Christmas, but has a shorter summer period.

There are a quite a few schools that are year round, and they are on different tracks, so their breaks depend on what track they're on. This is another factor that has affected vacations that families take.

Interesting. See we have the first week of April off this year. And I know I have always heard that easter week is busy but now I am wondering if that would be a good time to go in the future since not EVERYONE gets it off.

INTERESTING. Something to think about for future trips! :)

We always have the week before Easter off. I usually go down for a few days anyway because my birthday is in April and I use that as an excuse for a trip. Even though not all schools get the week off, it's still always really crowded.

We are in northern IL.....and we ALWAYS have the last week of March as spring break. Seems most school districts here have that week.

As for Easter, we only have Good Friday off.

We got ripped off this year with not even a Presidents Day off!!! Never mind the whole week - that would be great.

I have also read about "Fall breaks" people get & noticed October at WDW is super busy the past few years & CMs told us lots of kids have fall break. :confused3 We do not have that, either. We always have Th & F off before Columbus Day so a 5 day weekend and that's it for fall.

Happy planning. My oldest in in HS and it is hard to find a slower time of year w/out taking him out for a couple days. I miss the Jan/Feb trips!!

Ours in Northern CA is always the first week of April regardless of Easter. We never get Good Friday off unless it happens to be during Spring Break.

What city do you live in? I am also in the south bay in Santa Clara.

We too have that week off. I am not going then, too crowded I am going Mothers day week.

Well helloooo there neighbor! We live in Cupertino now, but I grew up in Santa Clara and my parents still live there (and well I work in Santa Clara). I've flown real far from the coupe as you can see. :rotfl:

I've noticed we usually get "around" that time of year off for Spring break, usually a week after Easter. I can't remember if it was ever immediately before or after...but never in March. May is a good time to go to DL. We went during Mothers Day week a couple of years ago and it was pretty darn crowded but not as bad as I'm sure it will be during spring break!

We're braving the WDW crowds this year. We're getting there on the 11th but aren't starting the parks 'til the 15th and according to everything I've read it starts to slow down a little once the week after Easter is over (at least I hope!). Most of the polls I've read shows most of the breaks are already done by then for the colleges and most other states that typically go during this time of year. But even if it is crowded (and I know it will be)...a crowded day at Disney (anywhere) beats any day at work ;) !

Hi,

I will be there May 14, 15th Mon and Tues, (mothers day the 13th) I hope its not Packed! I am wondering if maybe the reason it was more crowded then was becasue it was the 50th deal?? I hope?? Its SO HARD to pick down times. Jeff has the 14th off of school for a teacher work day, Staff learning day whatever so we are going. I am HOPING that it wont be too crowed because the next Sat 19th is the new Pirates At Worlds End priemer.

hmm need my Disney fix!!

oh ps: I'm over by "Buy the Bucket and the Honda Dealership"

Hmmm.....let's see. It's 3:04pm (central) so my kid's Spring Break started...

4 MINUTES AGO!!!! (actually he has all NEXT WEEK off).

& We will be at DL / DCA on this coming Monday, Tue. & Wed. :woohoo:

hound <---gonna ride "senor toad" - for the first time in 40 years. :cool1:

having specific time off for holidays is just not the "usual" thing any more, especially here in California. Half of the kids are now in year round schools so they may have the whole MONTH of April off versus just the week before! my kids have the week before off....Good Luck with chosing! and have fun!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :shamrock: :shamrock: :rainbow:

You should be fine! It might be a little heavy on Monday & probably a lot more heavy toward the end because of Pirates premier but other than that I can't imagine it comparing to Spring Break crowds!

Well, we really are close neighbors actually. :thumbsup2 We're just beyond the 280/Lawrence Expwy on/off ramps (other side of the freeway from Safeway that's on St. Crk)! Your son probably goes to my old elementary school (which I will not name here of course). My parents live in the house I grew up in by Maywood Park just right around corner! Wow, it's a small world after all :cool1: I remember eating at Buy the Bucket when I was very small before they rebuilt it. It was so dark in there but the pizza was SO GOOD :goodvibes .

I hear you about the Disney fix! We just went this last November to DL the week before Thanksgiving (it was SOOOO crowded, holy moly!) but the first time I've seen the park decked out for the holidays and if you've never done that YOU MUST! It is so beautiful. I'm lucky my DH is supportive of my Disney addiction because now he's got two with my 9yo DD. I think she may end up being just as bad as me...poor poor DH...mwaahahahaha! :stir:

Before I booked our trip I checked the local school districts and the CSU colleges. We live in Sacramento so I am referring to anything around this area. They either have the last week in March off or the first week in April. Sooo I thought DL wouldn't be too busy...never did I think about the other states and their spring break times. Looks like Arizona has this next week off. It's different everywhere...

All I can say is NEVER go there on Good Friday if you can avoid it. We did that on accident one year (didn't realize it was Good Friday that week) and it was just way too busy.
