:cool1: okay everyones happy that our puppy is here :dog: but what do we do with her when we are at WDW. Some say take her with us :) she will be 3months when we go but will the kennels allow her in. They are all  sad to leave her behind but excited to go. Oh what to do, don't think I will make everyone happy.

Ah yes the dilemna of owning a pet. This is why I SWEAR this is the last dog we will own!

You are better off finding a reputable kennel & putting her there, find a dog/house sitter that will stay with your puppy in the home, or do what we do & leave her with a neighbor that loves dogs.

I wouldn't do the kennels at WDW because you are responsible for feedings & walkings. That would be a real pain with a new puppy.

Good luck!

Actually I was just reading that may no longer be true for WDW kennels, but maybe someone can offer their experiences with the new kennel services. Here is a link to Allears about boarding at WDW:

We have always had dogs and gone away. We have a family member stay at our house and collect the mail and feed and play with the dogs.

This trip my sister is coming to stay and will be with our 5 month puppy and 12 year old dog.

I always board my dogs, I feel terrible that they will be in cages all day but they are safe and the kennel will put them both in the same cage. There are two people that work there that love German Shepherds, which is what two of them are, and play with them all the time. They are good dogs and friendly so they will also walk them and let them run around and get some fresh air.

Think about it, if you take the dog you won't be able to keep the dog in your hotel room and the dog won't be used to the weather in Florida since you are in a state that is cold right now and the dog might get sick. I vote to board her, check with your vet, mine has boarding facilities and that is where I board them, much better for the dog IMO

Ww have 2 dogs and we either board them both at a very nice kennel near our home, board one and my Mom watches the other, or Mom watches them both.

Have her stay with friends / family or have a pet sitter come stay with her there. (keeps the house safer to have someone there too)

We have done both. We board when nessasary and have used a house sitter. We prefer the latter given (Mickey) our German Shephard pluto:is at least able to be in his own environment.

Well we have 2 cats, well they are four legged, hairy little kids! Mischievous in every sense of the word....We leave them at home and have someone come here daily and entertain them
I tell ya they are just like our kids, even have to take baths, the little 1 (she's was a runt very small) will even get in the bath tub and swim around LOL...:rotfl2:
Only thing bad bout them being here alone is the big boy (16lbs Ernie) has figured out how to turn door knobs and open doors, so can't shut certain parts of the house off to them. DD's Gerbal looks like he needs valium now poor fella they just LOVE to go in there and stare at him...:)

I would not recommend taking her to an unfamilar kennel at that age and some will not keep a puppy.

Check with your Vet for recommendations, I am not sure she will have all her shots by 3 months.

We always have someone stay at our house to pet sit for us. Our dog is in a familiar environment, even if someone else is caring for her. We also usually get someone that she is familiar with. It also makes us feel better knowing someone is in the house while we are gone. We boarded her one time for a weekend once not long after we got her. She was so traumatized that we vowed never to do it again.

Sammie is correct. We have TWO new puppies (our male schipperke became a dad last october, and two of his daughters are home with us now). At three months, your pup will not have had all the immunizations it needs to be boarded in a kennel situation. Our vet, who is great, would board a dog in that situation in the hospital section of our clinic, but not in the regular kennel. Your vet could probably recommend a pet sitter, or is there a family friend who could take your pup? We feel your pain-one of us is staying home instead of WDW for spring break, cause the folks who have our pups' mom can't keep our gang as originally planned.

We swore off kennels after leaving our dachshund came home from a “luxury” kennel displaying a new trick he had learned in the kennel, standing up on his back legs and begging. Within a month he had to have back surgery. Fortunately for us we live near a major university with an excellent veterinary school. We now “hire” veterinary students to come by and let our pups out a couple of times a day. Occasionally they will even stay at our house while we are away. We find the students either by asking our personal vet or by calling the school’s veterinary department and asking if they are aware of any grad students looking for a temporary pet sitting/walking job. We pay about the same as boarding and know our puppies are happy and safe.

We put our boxer up in a pet resort. She has her own bed(looks like a single people bed) tv in her room and we pay for play time every day. When we came back last time she didn't want to come home. The cat stays home and guards the house.(kills everything in sight) We are on vacation and so are our pets. cost is 20 dollars a day.

I travel a lot and always feel that my dog receives excellent care at my sister's vet clinic. My dog is very comfortable there and very well cared for since the vet clinic employees also handle all of the boarding animals. She is used to being alone at home, so I think that she enjoys all of the activity in the kennels. They even have cots with sheepskin covers for the dogs, which my dog really loves.

If anything happens to your dog while you're gone, she gets immediate treatment from a very professional staff. They are also very strict that the animals have the appropriate vaccinations before they board.

My 2 cats, Mickey and Belle, also board when I'm gone for more than 2 days. They usually share a cat condo with 2 rooms. Once they get over the initial trauma of going outside to get there (they are strictly inside cats), they do settle in quickly.

You really need to establish a good boarding relationship so that you feel free to travel in the future while knowing that your pets are well cared for. Otherwise, your pets end up controlling your travel plans.

assuming the pup is old enough to have their shots, i agree with getting recommendations from a vet.
we boarded twice. both were breeders with other dogs (we did not want to use a regular kennel, where the dogs are caged most of the day & have little interaction from people or other dogs). all the pups had their own place to sleep, but spent most of their days romping with the others in large, fenced yards with constant supervision. (they played indoors in the rain ~ one had a VERY large house, the other a large converted barn). dogs had to visit beforehand to ensure their temperment (the few dogs that were found to be "unsociable" spent their playtime in a seperate area). btw, our toby (a golden) was about 6 months when he boarded, & he made a girlfriend....the two played, ate, & slept together, never leaving the other's side for the 10 days we were gone :lovestruc
we checked vet references/postings & toured the quite a few "facilities" before deciding, but it was time well spent. both were great experiences for the dogs, as well as us. fyi, we paid about $40 a day.
hth:)

Thanks you for everyones recommendations
Everyone in my family works so watching her would'nt be a good idea. When my sister wasn't working she watched our two cats .:cat: and let one out my kids :( were devastated we couldn't find her for three weeks. I had to tell my kids that she was in heaven I didn't want to tell them that I thought a coyote ate her. We are surrounded by woods so I figured she was lost or killed. But she did reappear after four weeks with a broken leg and emaciated she is now 21 years old and doing well. So my DH won't let anyone (my family) take care of our animals. His family is not animal people at all.
