just wondering how many people remember

Northwest was swallowed up by Delta.

Boy, am I behind the times.......that is what happens when you don't watch much news and only fly Southwest.

I remember my first flight around 1978 when I was 10 years old. I was the only person under 18 on the flight....both ways. I came from a small, small town and one of the first in my class to travel on a plane, it was really a big deal.

Not too long ago, but I remember Piedmont Airlines before USAir swallowed them up. Used to fly them from Boston to Dayton OH in the '80s, and they always gave you the full can of soda! Life's little joys... :)

My first plane trip was on Piedmont. That's where I got my first taste of almonds and have loved them ever since. And yes, they were served with a full can of Coke.

Hmmm...I still to this day get a full soda can on AA. Plus, on any carrier that didnt automatically give it to you, you can ask for an entire can and they have always given it to me without any issue.

I do miss flying in the 70's...so much more elegant. The "Southwest Effect" may have lowered fares but it also killed the experience.

Piedmont also had "hot towel service" - - a few minutes before landing, the flight attendants would bring around a silver urn filled with moist, hot facecloths and hand them out using tongs. I remember my DS, about 6 at the time (1985), taking one and scrubbing up he was in front of the bathroom mirror! LOL

Also, I remember a few more of the airlines from the past . . . TransMeridian, Hooters, ValueJet, and Allegheny Airlines. Oh yeah, Southeast too.

Yes - I remember flying New York Air shuttle from Boston for something like $29 in the mid-80's but the funniest thing was that thy gave us all pears on the plane - no apples, I was so disappointed.

I forgot one: New York Air "The flying nosh" "The big apple airline"

They gave you a red bag with a bagel and cream cheese for breakfast.

I have this spoon around my house somewhere from my flight to Japan when I was 10.

Eastern was the airline we flew on our first WDW trip in 1981. Huge L-1011 WhisperLiner, plenty of room even in coach, big breakfast (okay, it did not taste that great, but still...). Good memories.....:goodvibes
