I'm really curious about this. How far do people commute to work at Disney? If you are a CM or know a CM even, tell me what town they live in and how many miles or minutes the commute is one way.

I asked this of some cast members years ago. Some of the young folks who are from other countries and work in World Showcase live in a campus nearby. For others, the common answer was that most lived at least 15 miles away because the houses/apartments were more affordable. I know of at least a few who live up by me, which is about 70 miles/an hour away.

If the price of gas stays even close to where it is, commuting just might change for a lot of people all over. Maybe Walt was thiniking of times like this when he got the idea for the monorail.

The ones I know live 15-20 minutes away from their building, but I don't really know any that are regular park CMs...

There are thousands of CMs who are members of the College and International Programs. They sign on for a limited-time contract and are put up in apartment complexes that are owned by Disney. When I did the College Program we were house in Vista Way which is right across I-4 from Downtown Disney (the apartments with the red tile roofs. They now have at least two other complexes as well.

Regular CMs live all over the place. There are lots of homes and apartments within a 5-10 minute drive of WDW. A good friend of ours lived in an apartment about 15 miles away. It's really no different than any other job, some people live close and some don't.

My cousins work at WDW and they live in Winter Haven or Winter Park, which ever of those is right outside Kissimmee (sorry I always get them confused) - it's about 15 - 20 minutes.

I was just going to say anywhere that they can afford. I've never worked for WDW, but I have had friends who have and they've all said that when I asked the question.

DH lived in a community called Casselbury when he worked for WDW.

I live in the Polk County portion of Poinciana. Depending on where I am going it is 25-30 miles. I will allow myself an hour to get to work, although it usually takes only 40-45 minutes.

But I only work two days a week and it is more for the fun of it (and some of the playing side benefits (not medical insurance)) and not as a real source of income. I actually spend more there in a month than my pay is.

Woo Vista Way! I lived there too when I was a CP, working at Epcot. I think it was about a 20 minute bus ride.

I had a car so I never had to take the bus. When were you there? I was a Disney/MGM Studios Merchandise CM in the Spring of 1990. It was, hands down, the best experience I've ever had and I have now convinced both my kids to apply!

My friend's son lives across from Downtown Disney (college program). I imagine it makes for a very handy way to party and walk home!

That's Vista Way, however walking home really isn't an option. The walk from Pleasure Island is incredibly long and there are no sidewalks once you get out of the Hotel Plaza area. The rest of the way is a busy road with highway on/off ramps. It's definitely not a safe place to walk when sober, let alone when drunk!

I agree 100% about it b3eing the best experience! I did two CPs...spring of 2002 and 2003 and I lived in both Vista and Chatham. I was a character greeter (now called attendants) and I loved every minute of it!

I have friends who work at WDW, some live in Windermere, other's live in Davenport...they are all over the place. :)

I have to admit that I lived in Vista Way and never even realized it was across from DTD  Definitely never tried to walk home from there! I was a CP in the fall of 2002.

My cousin is a CM...she lives in/owns a condo in Celebration.

Hi! Vista Way Bldg 1711...Spring 1990!!! :cool1: I worked at the Gourmet Pantry in DTD.

I lived at Vista Way in Spring of 1999 and then a private apartment off 192 in Kissimmee in Winter 2000 when I went back as part time for the winter.

One of my friends lives in Davenport in a rented house, about $1300/month for a three bedroom pool house. The other lives down in Bartow where he just bought a house.

Spring 1990! No way! I was in Apartment 201...first floor in the first building to the right as you drove in! Maybe we were in class together?! I skipped one on purpose so I could get my Mouster's Degree instead of my Ducktorate as I always was a Mickey girl.
