Last night, my husband and I were trying to decide what we wanted to watch for an in-home date night. I had recently borrowed the Magic Kingdom and Epcot videos that my parents got for our first family trip back in 1992, so we decided to randomly watch them. It was absolutely fantastic! I really preferred these videos to the vacation planning DVDs that they send out now. I feel like the current DVDs don't go into enough detail to really give you an idea of what to expect regarding rides, shows, resorts, etc. These videos, though, were fantastic. The first one we watched was called "A Day At Magic Kingdom" and we followed on family as they rode the monorail to the park, entered through Main Street, and went on many of the rides. It showed the grounds, characters, and the inside and outside of many rides. The Epcot one was the same way.

Why do you think Disney went away from this and on to the current DVDs? Do you think it was a money issue? Clearly, it would cost more to do a special video for each park, not to mention Downtown Disney and the resorts, but watching the 1992 video was more exciting than the current DVDs that they put out, in my opinion.

Also, anyone have an older vacation planning DVDs or videos?

I loved these videos!!!!

When we were kids, we used to watch these all of the time.

They are the best...and yes, i agree with you. They are way more informative than the new ones.

However, the new ones have to cover a lot more info.

I would love to see this video as it was the year I first visited WDW. I am going to search on YouTube for it! :)
I loved watching it again! Good luck in your search!

I wish that they would go back to the old way. Maybe tell people that they can choose which videos they wish to order. That way, if a person has already decided which resort to stay at, they won't pick that one, but might still want the 4 parks. I don't know. I just loved seeing all the detail in the videos last night. It was fun to "ride" the Skyway again. And I loved seeing Cranium Command, Kitchen Kabaret, World of Motion, and Dreamfinder again.

I think the reason the DVDs don't show as much as the old videos is because Disney doesn't want to give too much away, and would rather leave people with a sense of mystery and wonder about what is in store for them upon arrival. They're probably trying to avoid the whole "Why go on vacation when I can watch the videos and experience everything over and over again for free?". It's sad, but that's probably why they stopped doing that.

I watched the 1996 planning video the other day!

These definitely seem more detailed.

You can find most of them on youtube...which is awesome!

I like to watch the Parks and Cruises specials on Destination America. They were on quite a bit in the lead up to my Magic-al Land & Sea trip last month. They are always fun to me, and they show quite a BIT of the parks and the attractions. I think Disney has learned that people's YouTube Videos (also quite fun) of parades or even tour groups going on the rides, well its definitely no substitute for the real thing, and just builds up the Disney fever more.

We found some of the older ones at thrift stores for .50-1.00 so we have been picking them up to see how the parks have changed and yes; they feel more informative and educational thatn the "infomercial" style that they are now

One change I noticed (and had completely forgotten about) was the sign for Snow White's Adventures. Not Snow White's Scary Adventures, but Snow White's Adventures. Gosh I miss that ride. I got so excited to see which dwarf's cart I was going to ride in. I always hoped for Happy, but always ended up with Sleepy or Sneezy. Are either of those two anyone's favorite?

I know it does for me. And speaking of all of those great youtube videos, that reminds me of a complaint I have. I wish that they would lighten up some of the rides to how they used to be (Pirates, Peter Pan's Flight). I think that they made them so dark to try and cut down on the filming and pictures, but I don't think it did any good and I miss the details I used to be able to see.
I compiled all Disney vacation planning videos 1971- present here.
