So, as many of you know, DD13 and I are going in October to make up for her missing so much of our first trip last March due to illness. She is getting more and more excited about it. She has even started lurking on these boards. ( Hi, sweetie!)

One of the things she missed was Haunted Mansion. Of course, when we go, it will have the Nightmare before Christmas overlay. I was explaining this to her, and told her I wasn't that excited about it, because I had never seen the movie and really had no desire to. Tim Burton surely is a brilliant artist and director... but talk about disturbing imagery! :scared: Just from clips, etc. I never wanted to watch the movie. But DD13 got all interested, so we rented it and watched it this evening.

Guess who's a HUGE Jack Skellington fan now? (hint: it's not me.)

*Sigh.*

Among my feeble cries of "That's sick!" and "Eww, gross!" and "Hey, that's sacreligious!" she was gleefully giggling, "It's brilliant! It's different! It's hilarious! I love it!"

Guess who's going to be dragged on HMH OVER and OVER again?! Me, that's who. Oh, what I sacrifice for my children! :lmao: At least they're independent thinkers...

Gail, I have the same problem w/my younger dd. We went last October and Mommy made everyone ride HM...and none of us had ever seen the movie. Dh and I didn't get it, older dd kept her eyes closed 99% of the time, and younger dd laughed hysterically thru the whole thing! We then came home and the very next night NBC was on tv. Dh tivo'ed it and guess what we've been watching ever since...

When are you going in Oct? Maybe we'll be there at the same time and can comiserate lol.

My daughter also loves it, and has since the first time they did the makeover. She's 19 now.

She knows all the songs by heart, we got the soundtrack at Disneyland. And I always smile inside when I see her start singing along when she hears the tunes at Disneyland, and makes hand gestures, with that happy look on her face for something she really enjoys.

I've learned to like it so much just because she does.

DH and I love that movie and have always wanted to see it in the HM. Hopefully we will get to on Jan. 2. Last trip DH bought little NBC figures that are sitting around the computer now. :) We ordered the new version on BR and can't wait to see it again all fixed up! :thumbsup2

I'm totally not a fan of that movie. DH LOVES it..so I think I"ll be dragged on it too ;)

But if you watch on youtube you can see people who've video'd the ride through and my kids actually were less freaked out by the overlay, so good for us?

We rode the ride and had never seen the movie. I loved the overlay so much I went back in line and stood for an hour to ride again. When we got back from our trip I coudn't find that movie anywhere, so borrowed it from a family member. It was fantastic!

I am one of those people that love this movie and went out and bought it the day it came out!
My children love it too and we have the soundtrack too!
Prior to this May, the last few times we had been to Disneyland we went in October and December and really enjoy the Nightmare Before Christmas layover of the Haunted Mansion.
Come to think of it, because that is always the way we saw it, it was usual to us.
We went this past May and went on the Haunted Mansion and I have to say, we prefer the NBC version.
My children were scared of the original version and would not go on it a second time!
I find the original version much more "dark" and scary.
However, I do understand why people would prefer the original version as it is supposed to be scary!
We, however, love the NBC version!

I really love the overlay....I wish they would do the same thing in WDW.

I am not a fan of Nightmare Before Christmas, but really enjoy the Halloween layover. If you want to see pix from last year, just say the word. Not posting them in case you would rather be surprised.

It really is fun!

Side story: Met a friend at the park 2 years ago for the Halloween party at DCA. He and his family were visiting from WA. I commented about how fun the Halloween layover is for Haunted Mansion. He replied, "We love it so much, we plan our annual trip for the same time every year. We've never seen the Mansion not 'Halloween'd'!" haha! To some, Halloween is the ONLY way to see the mansion.

No, I don't think you're in the minority! A few months ago I posted, asking about it, and probably 75% said they loved the overlay, or at least liked it better than the original. Some people said that while they're not nuts about the movie, they like the overlay.

The movie was out of circulation for awhile; I wasn't able to get it through the Blockbuster mail service, but they just re-released it in a collector's edition. So it just came in the mail yesterday after being on my wait list for awhile. Part of the special features is a video of the ride through the Haunted Mansion Holiday-- and I've also seen versions on YouTube before. It makes a lot more sense now that I've seen the movie!

I can join the DD loves the move club.:lmao: She likes it so much she has her room decorated with all Jack and Sally stuff. Even wanted to paint her room black. Mom won that fight and we went with a gray.:woohoo:

I have never wanted to see the movie and I am NOT a fan of the overlay (especially the fact that it takes up more than 1/3 of the year!!!).

But hubby loves the movie, and I'm actually going to be buying the collector's DVD for him, sigh. And I'm quite sure he'll have our son watch it, and then Eamon will become a fan.

I can forsee many times sitting, having a coffee and fritters in NOS, waiting for "the boys" to be done riding HMH multiple times in a row...at least FP is available for HMH, right???

Now my question is, finish up my Disney Movie Club obligation and get the DVD plus James and the Giant Peach for 30+ from them (the only way they have NBC available, and DS loves James even though hubby hates that movie's imagery!), or just buy NBC for 20+ at Costco????

Oh EXCITING! My family loveslovesloves Nightmare before Christmas! Especially when HM is decorated with it! Honestly, HM isn't the same during the rest of the year. When I went in June -- I felt bored. I wasn't excited as I was when I went during the holidays.

My brother is probably the biggest fan out of our entire movie. He's even going as one of the characters! I'm thinking of getting the new set that just came out for him.

Just a FYI... If you get the newest release of NBC which released this past Tuesday on Blu-Ray and DVD. They take you on the enitre Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland with the NBC overlay. With or without commentary and pop-up facts! It's very cool! :thumbsup2

LOL Well it's not my most favorite movie in the world, it's okay. But I still love the overlay. I think they do a great job with it, all the snow and decorations are so pretty to me. It really doesn't have that "ewww" factor that I see in the movie. To me it's just a cool mix of Halloween and Christmas decorations.

I love NBC!!! I saw it the day it opened almost 15 years ago for my birthday. I even have a NBC themed bathroom and car. It is a bit over the top hahah! I even got featured in the newspaper last Halloween.

But even with my major love of NBC I love both manisons. I love the extra details some rooms get more in NBC and I love some of the details in the regular mansion more. I apreciate both because I know both so well.

Now to decide if I should get the new DVD since we don't have bluray (DH refuses!), I have owned this movie on VHS, 1st DVD I bought, Special Addition DVD and now this comes out UGh! hhaha!

I have to add I think its a great movie, though some might find it dark I think the morals of friendship and being your self are great for kids.

I don't like either the movie or the overlay. I wouldn't mind the overlay if it didn't always happen to be up the only times my family can go to DL. I really miss the regular HM.

My oldest dd is a big fan of the movie, but she feels the same way I do about the overlay. Oh well. Since I'm getting an AP this year, maybe the 2 of us will make another trip in the spring...so perhaps I can see something good in the overlay after all :thumbsup2 I don't know how well that will go over with dh and the 3 little ones :guilty:

I am a huge Nightmare fan, would love to see photos of your bathroom. It sounds awesome.
