So this has nothing to do about Disney in any way……….but I am so annoyed that I had to share. Yesterday my girlfriend and I got home from a weekend spent with her parents. It was early afternoon and we were unloading the car. I had let the dogs out back so I was not near the front door, but I could hear a car pull past and shouts being screamed from the car. The kid inside was yelling “******” at my girlfriend. She shrugged it off as she does but it really irked me. We moved out of the city at her request and into a small town (You know the type with white picket fences ect ect. ) to get away from stuff like this. Never had I had so many problems then now! And this was a high school kid yelling! And to top it off he insulted me improperly! I mean if you are going to call me names at least call me by correct ones! Thanks for listening to my rant.

I can sympathize, but ignorance is everywhere. I have found the teens in my neck of the woods to be more tolerant of diversity, but there are the few that show their lack of tolerance and ignorance in a vain attempt to impress others around them. Then there are the ones who are perpetuating the intolerance taught to them by their parents and others in their life. There is no escaping it regardless of where you live.

It amazes me what extremes in kindness and cruelty children are capable of based on their enviroment. I just can't wrap my mind around these parents who consider their religion such importance yet teach such hate for others. It seems especially bad in more rural areas.

Chin up! **gives big gay hug for support** :grouphug:

Unfortunately, the problem is that those who teach hate and intolerance to their children do so BASED on their "religious" beliefs! They use their "religion" as an excuse to preach bigotry and hate. It's sad...

TO the OP:
I completely understand where you're coming from! We live in a big urban area, so we don't deal with that type of hatred every day. But we do deal with similar stupidity and hatred when we have to venture into the suburbs to go shopping...
My GF has really short hair (a boy cut basically). She doesn't wear makeup or girly clothes. But EVERY time she goes into a restroom, she ends up being told that she is in the wrong restroom. Sometimes it's just a rude, "Ummm, are you aware this is the LADIES room?" (and this is where she usually interjects a witty line). But sometimes women will be so horrible as to go get a manager from the store or restaurant to greet DGF at the door on her way out of the restroom. Usually the manager clearly recognizes that she is female and appologizes for the misunderstanding, but it's just so frustrating and sad, and I feel so bad for her. :sad2:

Hopefully someday people will be more open-minded and less hateful...until then, we'll just have to work on good come-back lines!! :thumbsup2

We are from the outskirts of the San Fransisco Bay Area, OK... Borderline hicks-ville, and not a very gay friendly place. but I have found actually more tolerance from the teen population here than with the adults. We have three great kids 13, 11, and 9. we were very worried about what they would have to deal with, having two moms and all. we even told them that they didn't have to let people know. WOW they amazed me! Not only do they tell, but they advocate and educate. Not one of them has had a negative remark said to them ever. It has actually made me very proud of the children in our community! I wish it was like this for all of you! Hopefully it stays that way for us!
If only the adults would learn from the kids sometimes!

After shaking this off ,things did get a little better around here.....This year I did not hear any parents tell their children that they could not trick or treat at our house! (a 1st!!!)

We actually managed to get both Rick Santorum and Melissa Hart out of office!

And I successively sent my best friend and family off to Disney with all their reservations set!! (ok the last one ….well it made me happy)

Now the whole bathroom thing…happens to my girl all the time. Once so badly in fact the police were called in (I wrote about it before on another thread)

Yeah, that whole bathroom thing. I was so tickled when we took DS to college and when we walked into his dorm, the restroom had a sign that said, "Men, women, and everyone in between." I knew he was in the right place.

That's great! :thumbsup2

Kids these days can be so rude and mean. I believe in karma and thing the stupid kids you saw will get what is coming to them. Some day those kids will get their ***** kicked. If nothing else, they are so stupid that they'll never get real jobs.
