I just purchased 300 points in BCV! This forum was invaluable in learning about DVC, and thanks to all for that.

FYI, here are some details which may interest those who are considering buying:

1. I asked about BWV opening up some points to the public, as mentioned on the forum. My guide strongly discouraged me from waiting for that (not that I was really planning to, anyway). He thought that the points wouldn't make it as far as the general public, but I had to wonder if he just wanted the sale today instead of a potential sale sometime in the future.

2. I had read on the forums that the purchase could be financed with 10% down, using $5/pt of the MB offer as part of that downpayment. The rules have changed. You must put at least 10% down out of your own pocket, and the MB offer (all $10/pt) can be used to increase your down payment. That is what I did, resulting in over 20% down. At 20% down, the interest rate (currently) is 9.75%, while it is 10.75% for 10% down.

3. I got December use year, and again my guide said that December wouldn't last long and would probably be February or March if I wait until next week (again, it sounded like a sales ploy).

4. I was very nervous about the purchase, as it will be tough on our budget, but right after I purchased I got that warm fuzzy that lets you know that you did the right thing.

Now I'm planning my first trip home as a DVC member!

"WELCOME HOME" and to the DIS!!!!

Welcome Home! You will love the Beach Club....and your dues are much lower than the BW....enjoy!

Congrats! I'm hoping we'll join you soon. (Still waiting on that info packet...)
I was curiuos about the December use year thing. That caught my eye. Do they not have January use years? Why would it skip to February and/or March so quickly?
Do the use yars turn over that fast/
Congrats again!

I was also a bit confused about skipping the January use year. It is possible that the January use year points have already sold out (right after BCV sales opened last summer), but my intuition was that the guide was fibbing to get me to buy now. You could call the sales line and just inquire what they have available now, and I would be interested in the response you get (hint, hint, wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more).

:p WELCOME HOME!!!!!!!!

You'll always cherish the memories!

Just a thought..... when we purchased our BCV points,
we went and got a home equity loan. It was fast and easy to do.
Cheaper too!

Now plan your first visit home!!! :Pinkbounc

Congrats & Enjoy!!!

P.S. There is no January use year.

Congratulations and welcome home neighbor.

Didn't finance but I've got to agree with previous post....you can do MUCH better on the intrest rate.

WELCOME HOME!
And may we see many more posts from you!

I think both, but he was probably telling the truth.

Yep! They're always running out of use years, but somehow they all continue to be available...

Hey it sure beats spending $40000 on an SUV! (not that I would know)

Congratulations!

Welcome Home!!! We are BCV neighbors also looking forward to that all-important first trip 'home'.

I have read on these boards before that some months are not used as use-years. I think January and May are 2 of them, but don't know the others. Surely, someone will step in with the details. There are SO many knowledgable DVCers on this board.

congrats!

I am also waiting for my papers from signing up last night for 180 points at BCV!

Likewise, awaiting the paperwork. Origially purchased 160 pts, but got home and asked myself if I really wanted to borrow, rent, and transfer points every year.. called up my guide and he was able to bump it to 200 at the same MB price. Got the strange, but warm, feeling I'll be adding more cuz I only see the addiction getting worse!!

And, I agree...the folks on DIS are absolutely wonderful and we are looking forward to our first trip home..hopefully in Nov. 7 months without a Mickey fix is asking WAY too much!!
