I just took a gun safety class & loved it!! It is required to take a 8 hour gun safety class in my state to get a hand gun permit, but the class is wonderful. It taught gun safety, types of guns, how to handle them, home protection, even some on alcohol & drug use. The class includes a written test as well as a shooting test on a police range. I learned a lot & feel a lot more confident. I know a lot of people are against guns, but I want to make sure that I know what I am doing when it comes to my guns.

We qualified with 22 cal semi-autos, but got the chance to fire other weapons. I loved the Taurus Judge!! I would feel totally safe with that weapon defending my house. Just shoot in the burgular's direction & he will be hit!!

Good :D I wish more people would take safety courses at least to just educate themselves and DEFINITELY if you are ever going to handle a gun.

Good for you! Just remember to keep your skills up you need regular practice. I take a refresher course each year too. Laws can change and its nice to keep up with the changes.

Good for you, Doc!

Gun education is always good, even if you don't want a gun. It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

I've had a Smith&Wesson 38 Chief Special for many years. It is a good gun for my purse. The Taurus Judge is the ultimate home defense weapon plus it looks cool on the range. My BIL is in law enforcement so he spends a lot of time on the range. I plan on going with him some. His wife & daughter both have attended a gun safety class & carry a gun. They both carry a 9mm. My father had a large gun collection which were mostly rifles & shotguns. My father passed away several years ago. My mother wants to give all of his collection to my DS when he's old enough. He was able to go to the class with me & watch. He understands how important it is to be safe.

Good for you, I've become a little bit of a "gun nut" lately. Primarily because I have been working on several inventions that are fire arms related.

I would suggest you getting a Berreta 32. It was the gun preferred by James Bond, but M took it away from him and made him use the Walther PPK. Both are good, small, good to keep in a purse or what not. I have one I keep by my bed. I say if its good enough for James Bond its good enough for me. :)

Now for home defense I highly recommend the NF PS90. (Belgian made firearms, very high quality) A revolutionary bull pup assault rifle (very small). It is extremely cool, almost as cool as the one I'm inventing. :rotfl2:

Or you can always get an AK-47 with grenade launcher for home defense. So if anyone breaks in you can grab it and go "SAY HELLO TO MY LIL FRIEND!" KABOOOMMMM!!! :lmao:

yah, I grew up with guns in my house, and when I was 12 years old I took the course at my local Gun Club, to which my dad was the president.
I had a .22 under over at that time and also was on a skeet shooting team!

I think gun safety should be a mandatory type course that should be taken, I think it would cut down on the fascination of guns on the part of kids these days...
sort of like that ..you touch, because you were told not to thing.

I really think that more people should take the gun safety class. I had been around guns growing up but many people weren't & think that all you have to do & point & shoot. The class gives you a lot of respect for the gun. I have my little 38 & am Really looking at the Taurus Judge for home protection. As our instructor said, you just have to point it in their direction to hit them with buckshot.

I'm confused because you said it's required to take the class to get a handgun permit, but you've already had the gun for many years and you just took the class? (Maybe you got it when you lived in another state or something?) Or had you taken the class already and just took this one as a refresher or something? I have no idea how any of this works, lol

:thumbsup2

A neighbor has just purchased a Judge...my husband has been talking about it a lot lately too. Very good for home defense.

The OP can clarify, but the permit in question is probably a carry permit, not an ownership permit. Tennessee does not require a permit to purchase/own a handgun.

I would do a little more research on the judge. They are great in theory, but are not that great in actuality.

I really like that you have to take the class for a gun permit. I think that's an excellent idea. And I also think it's awesome that you enjoyed it so thoroughly. People are much more likely to pay attention to something they are enjoying!
