from where I sit...

The Republicans think the Democrats want to save everyone and do it with more taxes.

The Democrats think the Republicans want to let everyone suffer but the wealthy, who get all the tax breaks.

The Democrats think the Republicans are war mongers.

The Republicans think that the Democrats would let everyone invade the USA at will.

This seems to be the general consensus here on the CB latley, so now that it is all summed up can we let it go.

I would definitely say that is not the general consensus on the CB. It's the opinion of a group of very insistant and vocal people.

There are quite a bit of us that fall on both sides of the middle. We just get ignored a lot because we're not poop slinging like the black & white people are.

Something that I think too many people from each wing of the spectrum forgets about is that the other side is not the enemy.

For example, I don't hate liberals, and I don't think they want to destroy the country. I think they want to make the country better and safer, but I don't agree with their ideas and methods for doing it.

Poop slinging!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Wasn't there an animated movie with monkeys saying that???

I call them the RED and BLUE people. Neither side can see fault in any of their own people, but see plenty of fault on the other side.

Moderates just aren't interesting -we never make the front page.

I agree, but it took me a while to see that here. I think a lot of the debate threads are kind of steered by the black and white thinkers, and that tends to make it look like there are "sides."

There are good ideas, and bad ideas, in both the Republican and Democrat parties, and I think it is sort of a shame that things can get so polarized.

I tend to be a more a "shade of gray person too" and most people expect me to be the person who can "see both sides" to help settle arguments and the like...

One time after getting very frustrated by the "black and white" thinkers in my life- I announced to all that I would also only think in black and white- and also make large leaps and assumptions based on vague similarities between things. It was quite fun for a while to go around showing people how foolish some of the absolute thinking is- and that really you have to be willing to give and take on both sides of the line to really make a nice place for all people.

I have no clue who to vote for. I'm fiscially conservative, socially liberal. I think gay people should be able to marry and abortion should be legal. I think it is completely inappropraite for any religious documents to be posted on government property I also think people should take responsibility for themselves and not depend so much on the government. I don't think the government has any business taking "excess" profits from companies for the "greater good." I think a flat tax is the most fair way to tax - why punish people for being successful? I think "No Child Left Behind" is a bipartisan nightmare that has done tons of damage to schools and actually has racist components. I don't think either major party really represents the American people.

I would be a Libertarian but I don't agree with their ideas about defense or education.

Maybe we should all become libertarians!

Seriously I find more people operate on shades of grey (or should I say purple?) than red and blue.

Throw in anti-illegal immigration, and Leighe's comments on where she stands sums up not only my beliefs but of most people I know. And yet we're practically pinko commies according to some people here, and scroogish conservatives to others. You can't win.

Don't even get me started on feeling abandoned and party-less ;)

Well I consider myself a Republican but have voted for Democrats that I feel are better suited for an office than a Republican...I posted this lightheartedly because there are so many people that see things black and white without shades of grey...I can take a hard stand with the best of them but I also first try to see the other persons side before making a decision or taking that stand.
