Just thought of this question about different room types

The point chart show "cost" of room at, for instance, the Beach Club Villas, for a particular night. Is this for a standard view room? What if you want a "better" (i.e., more expensive normally) view or even concierge? Is there a set amount you can pay (points or cash) for the upgrade? Thanks!

There is no point difference for views at DVC resorts with two exceptions. The oceanview Inn rooms at Vero Beach cost additional points and there is a "standard" view at BWV which is slightly lower than the preferred view. BWV opened with just one point chart like all the rest of the DVC resorts but people complained about paying the same for rooms that faced out the front (and also look at the parking lot -- although it's not a bad view) as they did for pool and boardwalk views. Thus, was born the lower standard view point chart.

There are no different levels of service, like Concierge, at DVC resorts. When you exchange to other WDW hotels, you do pay different amounts of points for views and for Concierge.

So there are no real differences in view at Wilderness Lodge or Beach Club Villas? Or there is but it is just the luck of the draw? Thanks!

What you can see thru the window will vary in every room in any resort, but the point costs for each type of room are the same at BCV, VWL and OKW. Only BWV has a standard/preferred option.

Just an FYI, there is no concierge available at the DVC resorts. What you may be looking at is the non-DVC portion of the resorts. The two are completely separate lodging. :D

But I thought one checked in and dealt through the same front desk area as anyone at the Beach Club? But you can't access any of the concierge features -- scheduling, lounge, etc. -- for any additional cost?

At VWL, BCV and BWV, the check-in for the hotel portion and the DVC portion are done at the same desk. However, there is no access to the Concierge level amenitities unless you stay in Concierge. (Just like if you stay in a hotel room you don't get access to Concierge.) With DVC, there really is no need for Concierge. You've got your own lounge and snack area right in the room and then some, especially in a 1-bedroom or larger. ;) DVC members are given assistance in advance by MS with any planning needs they may have.

You still have access to Guest Services who will be happy to make reservations and sell park tickets, etc. They serve the function of a general "concierge" such as you have at large hotels. Concierge at Disney signifies special floor and amenities and a private "concierge" for those guests.

I am familiar with the concept of concierge at Disney, having stayed at that level a couple of times. Normally when making reservations at the resorts there are options, such as view and concierge, which affect the cost. I see that the point chart for Boardwalk has a different point value for the two available views, but did not know if that was the only villa which made that distinction. I was just attempting to determine what general Disney options were available when staying at the villas. Thanks.

Here's a way to look at it.

There are WDW resorts. These include different prices for views and for Concierge level stays and also suites.

There are DVC resorts. With the two aforementioned exceptions, they are priced the same within each category (studio, 1 bed, etc.) at each resort. They do not include any concierge levels or suites because they are "Home Away from Home" options.

Some of the DVC resorts are also attached WDW hotels -- WL, BC and BW. They are two seperate "resorts" that share some amenities including pools and check-in desks.

DVC members may also use their points to book stays at WDW resorts. There are different points required for the different views and for concierge.

However, once a DVC resort and a WDW resort become "sisters", a DVC member may no longer book stays in the hotel portion using points. Yacht Club is not considered part of the "sisterhood" so it is still available but Beach Club is not.

Hope that helps.
