Last night a guy (*Jim) that I know got drunk & had a head on collision with an elderly man (*Bob).

The guy is a senior in high school, and decided to go get drunk after the homecoming dance. He drove, and fell asleep on the wheel on the way to his friends house.

*Bob was sent to the hospital and died this morning around 3 am. *Jim is in jail right now.

All on facebook I'm seeing "I'm praying for you, *Jim!" and "Please pray for the *Jim's last name* family."

I'm like "WTH"

JIM is 17.
JIM got drunk.
JIM drove.
JIM fell asleep.
& JIM killed a man that was going to get ice cream for his wife!

Why in the hell am I suppose to pray for Jim, when *Bob's entire family is in mourning because JIM decided it would be cool to drink and drive.

It's just so aggrivating. I know *Jim family is also going through alot, but I'm not at all going to feel bad for him.

/vent.

i feel you, i wouldn't/don't feel bad for this "Jim" either.

the poor elderly man died because of a stupid mistake that this kid did, without thinking he screwed up his and the other persons family and now has blood all over his hands...kids these days don't realize that not everything revolves around them; meaning they have to take responsibility every once in a while for their actions. this gets me really aggravated :headache:

i wouldn't feel bad for *jim at all besides the fact that he screwed up big time.

I feel you, and the only people I'd be praying for are Bob's family, Bob's soul, and possibly Jim's family (depending on if they condone underage drinking or not).

I find it disgusting when people get themselves between a rock and a hard place and expect others to dig them out. Whether it be through prayer, financial compensation, whatever. There are certain things that are exempt like illness, but seriously, this kid had a CHOICE not to drink and drive. He CHOSE to drink and drive, and he CHOSE to kill that man. The only thing I would pray for him would be for God to lead his soul onto a better path in life once he's served his time.

I would feel bad for Jim only because of the guilt he would be feeling. But at the same time he deserves that every bit of that Guilt because of what he did. I would be praying for Bob before praying for Jim any day. Jim deserves to be in Jail.

I would pray for Jim.

But not cause I condone it, nor think he should ever be let drink or drive.

But because he obviously has a problem, and killed someone.

I would pray that he never do that again, and that he learns from this horrible, horrible choice, and that no lives are spared again because of Jim.

Praying for someone doesn't always necessarily mean you like, or agree with Jim's decisions.
I pray for my enemies because I hope they'll learn.
You can pray that someone finds his way out of the dark.

I don't pray for Jim to figure out his wrongs, I pray for GOD to help Jim figure out his wrongs.

^ exactly Sonya.

I understand what *Jim's family is going through because something simular to his happened to Garrett's brother and his friend. So I do understand what his family are going through.

BUT I don't feel bad for him. Just his family, having to deal with his bad decision.

I'm praying for *Bob and his family and friends. As for *Jim, I'm praying to GOD that he helps him make better choices in the future and that he leads him down the right path from now on.

Because both families have a loss. One died of his injuries and the other because of the choices he's made.

It's a loose-loose situation.....

i feel bad for the families involved, and bob. and i do feel for jim. yes, he made a mistake, a horrible horrible lethal mistake, but now he has to live with it. and thats a fate worse than death. teenagers have a god complex, and they think they'll never get hurt, and it will never happen to them. but it does. i fully believe that jim never meant to hurt anyone, he just didn't think of the consequences of his actions, which were huge. and now he has his whole life to live with them. yes, i feel sympathy for all involved.

Well, I feel bad for everyone involved. It's basically two lives ruined over one stupid mistake.

Last year someone from my high school ran over a lady in the school parking lot. This was right after school and she was in his blind spot going over a curve. Everyone on facebook was freaking out and blaming him for killing her. I felt so bad for him, it was an honest mistake and now this poor kid has to deal with that and everyone else.

Jim's cousin, (my friend) was the one to come on facebook and say

"Don't just pray for my family, pray for the family who lost a loved one just as much, if even more."

When Garrett's brother went through all this.. it was him and his friend drinking and his friend driving. They ran over two little boys and killed them. Garrett's brother didn't get anything but underage drinking, and his friend got sentenced to prison for 15 years, a few months ago, for underage drinking, and whatever degree of murder it was.

The friend is actually a pretty good kid. He came from a very well raised family. He just made a bad choice, like *Jim.

IMO, that's different. Having a blind spot is not illegal. The death, albeit tragic, could not have been prevented. Willingly drinking underage and choosing to drive a vehicle CAN be prevented.

Jim is still a kid. A stupid kid who made a mistake, and now has to live with that for the rest of his life. That is a big punishment.

He didn't do it on purpose, and he didn't have any malicious plans to kill Bob. He made a dumb mistake and it killed someone.

I would feel bad for him and his family, as well as Bob's. I completely understand where those FB people are coming from. But that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve jail time or to suffer for what he did.

And seriously wow, your town has a lot of incidents like this. :(
