Just the Two of Us Our October 2006 Trip Report
Me: Disney Fan since my first trip at the age of 3 in 1976.
My family and I stayed at the Polynesian in 1976 and year
after year growing up we visited WDW for wonderful
family memories.
DH: My husband never experienced Disney as a child and his
first trip was for his 30th birthday.
He fell is love with WDW just as I hoped he would.
Since then we have traveled back to Disney at least once
a year for wonderful memories, relaxation and most of all
the magic!!
Day 1: Saturday, October 28th:
RAIN, RAIN, RAIN-
one of the biggest rain
and thunderstorms of the season through the Northeast
and there is flooding everywhere. My alarm goes off at 5:00am,
but Ive already been up for about ½ hour watching the rain and
calling Jet Blue to check on flight status. As of 5:00am-
we are on time. I wake my husband from bed-
even though he is as excited for our trip as I; he still needs
some help with mornings!
We get ready, pack our last minute items as the
car service to airport arrives on time at 6:00am.
The rain is now coming down so hard, I cant even see
across the street- our luggage securely packed in the
trunk of the car, house locked up and off we go to
Newark Airport. Its only about a 20 minute drive to
the airport, but b/c of the rain; it took us about
35 minutes. No big deal- our flight was leaving at
7:20am and we were right on time.
After checking luggage and heading through security we waited
in the Jet Blue wing all the while the flight was still on time.
My thoughts are that since we were the first flight out
of Newark Airport that morning we were going to have
a good chance of leaving on time or close to it.
Waiting and waiting and the flight still says on time. We board
the plane; get great seats- LOVE Jet Blue- especially the
TV sets. We taxi out of the gate and come to a
complete stop. Needless to say- we waited on the tarmac
for about 45 minutes before we took off. Good thing I was
able to watch TV, as that made the time go by much
faster! The flight was uneventful and we landed in Orlando
about ½ hour later than planned at 10:40am.
YIPPEEEE--
our vacation has begun!!!!!
I was very excited to try Magical Express and heard so much
about it, but we decided to pass on it, as we really like the
convenience of having a limo pick us up and stop
at the grocery store. So we headed to baggage claim and
found our driver and we were off to WDW.
After a quick stop at Goodings Supermarket at the Crossroads
Center by Downtown Disney for some bottled water, fruit
and any last minute sundries, we were off to the Beach Club.
Viviana, checked us in and assigned us to room 4621, confirmed our
charging privileges and finished up by giving us the fun,
fun packet of Disney brochures, maps and times schedule!
While I was checking in, DH was at the Concierge desk making
some new dining reservations and re-arranging some previously
scheduled times. On our flight down to Orlando - it is our tradition
that we read through our Disney notes and the latest edition
of Birnbaums Guide and get everything in order for the week in terms
of dining and such. As usual we always talk about trying a new
place to eat or a new tour, so there are changes to be made
once we check-in.
Our room was not ready to so we headed down to Beaches
and Cream for some lunch including a burger for me and
a hot dog for DH. Afterwards, we just sat outside taking
in the warm weather, and realizing we had
8 days of WDW ahead of us.
Around 2:00pm our room was finally ready, so we headed up to
Room # 4621 and found we had such a wonderful view of the
Boardwalk and the lagoon. Our balcony was small, but very comfortable
for two people. Unfortunately, there were no king bed rooms available
so we settled for two queen beds.
We unpacked, watched some Disney Television with top
10 countdown, showered, changed and
headed off to Downtown Disney. The bus
was empty and we enjoyed a lovely ride to the Marketplace.
I love to walk through the stores and check out the new
merchandise since our last trip. We bought tickets to Cirque
Du Soleil for later in the week, bought some candy at Goofys
candy company and enjoyed leisurely walking through the shops.
At this point, we were getting hungry again and decided to head
to Kimonos at the Swan for some wonderful sushi. I have to say,
Kimonos has some of the best tasting sushi Ive ever eaten.
We waited for a bus back to the Swan and off we went.
We had dinner at Kimonos of sushi, noodle soup with pork, dumplings
and yummy Japanese Beer!
It was about 8:30pm when we finished dinner and I was
starting to feel tired, it had been a very long day.
We walked slowly back to the Beach Club and talked
about our plans for the next day.
We were going to wake up early and
catch the opening ceremonies at the Magic Kingdom!!!!
Up next: DAY 2: Magic Kingdom and Lots of FOOD!
