Just the Two of Us – Our October 2006 Trip Report

Me: Disney Fan since my first trip at the age of 3 in 1976.
My family and I stayed at the Polynesian in 1976 and year
after year growing up we visited WDW for wonderful
family memories.

DH: My husband never experienced Disney as a child and his
first trip was for his 30th birthday.
He fell is love with WDW just as I hoped he would.

Since then we have traveled back to Disney at least once
a year for wonderful memories, relaxation and most of all
– the magic!!

Day 1: Saturday, October 28th:
RAIN, RAIN, RAIN- :umbrella: one of the biggest rain
and thunderstorms of the season through the Northeast
and there is flooding everywhere. My alarm goes off at 5:00am,
but I’ve already been up for about ½ hour watching the rain and
calling Jet Blue to check on flight status. As of 5:00am-
we are on time. I wake my husband from bed-
even though he is as excited for our trip as I; he still needs
some help with mornings!

We get ready, pack our last minute items as the
car service to airport arrives on time at 6:00am.
The rain is now coming down so hard, I can’t even see
across the street- our luggage securely packed in the
trunk of the car, house locked up and off we go to
Newark Airport. It’s only about a 20 minute drive to
the airport, but b/c of the rain; it took us about
35 minutes. No big deal- our flight was leaving at
7:20am and we were right on time.

After checking luggage and heading through security we waited
in the Jet Blue wing all the while the flight was still on time.
My thoughts are that since we were the first flight out
of Newark Airport that morning – we were going to have
a good chance of leaving on time or close to it.

Waiting and waiting and the flight still says on time. We board
the plane; get great seats- LOVE Jet Blue- especially the
TV sets. We taxi out of the gate and come to a
complete stop. Needless to say- we waited on the tarmac
for about 45 minutes before we took off. Good thing I was
able to watch TV, as that made the time go by much
faster! The flight was uneventful and we landed in Orlando
about ½ hour later than planned at 10:40am.

YIPPEEEE-- :yay: our vacation has begun!!!!!

I was very excited to try Magical Express and heard so much
about it, but we decided to pass on it, as we really like the
convenience of having a limo pick us up and stop
at the grocery store. So we headed to baggage claim and
found our driver and we were off to WDW.

After a quick stop at Goodings Supermarket at the Crossroads
Center by Downtown Disney for some bottled water, fruit
and any last minute sundries, we were off to the Beach Club.

Viviana, checked us in and assigned us to room 4621, confirmed our
charging privileges and finished up by giving us the fun,
fun packet of Disney brochures, maps and times schedule!
While I was checking in, DH was at the Concierge desk making
some new dining reservations and re-arranging some previously
scheduled times. On our flight down to Orlando - it is our tradition
that we read through our Disney notes and the latest edition
of Birnbaum’s Guide and get everything in order for the week in terms
of dining and such. As usual we always talk about trying a new
place to eat or a new tour, so there are changes to be made
once we check-in.

Our room was not ready to so we headed down to Beaches
and Cream for some lunch including a burger for me and
a hot dog for DH. Afterwards, we just sat outside taking
in the warm weather, and realizing we had
8 days of WDW ahead of us.

100_0049-1.jpg

Around 2:00pm our room was finally ready, so we headed up to
Room # 4621 and found we had such a wonderful view of the
Boardwalk and the lagoon. Our balcony was small, but very comfortable
for two people. Unfortunately, there were no king bed rooms available
so we settled for two queen beds.

IMG_1402.jpg

We unpacked, watched some Disney Television with top
10 countdown, showered, changed and
headed off to Downtown Disney. The bus
was empty and we enjoyed a lovely ride to the Marketplace.
I love to walk through the stores and check out the new
merchandise since our last trip. We bought tickets to Cirque
Du Soleil for later in the week, bought some candy at Goofy’s
candy company and enjoyed leisurely walking through the shops.
At this point, we were getting hungry again and decided to head
to Kimono’s at the Swan for some wonderful sushi. I have to say,
Kimono’s has some of the best tasting sushi I’ve ever eaten.
We waited for a bus back to the Swan and off we went.

907c1cae.jpg

We had dinner at Kimono’s of sushi, noodle soup with pork, dumplings
and yummy Japanese Beer!
It was about 8:30pm when we finished dinner and I was
starting to feel tired, it had been a very long day.
We walked slowly back to the Beach Club and talked
about our plans for the next day.
We were going to wake up early and
catch the opening ceremonies at the Magic Kingdom!!!!

Up next: DAY 2: Magic Kingdom and Lots of FOOD!

DAY 2: Day 2: Sunday, October 29th:

I woke up at 5:00am and could not go back to sleep. So I decided
to head down to the Beach Club promenade and go for a brisk
morning walk. There was practically no one around, except for
a few cast members and some random joggers. I walked all
around to the Yacht Club, over the bridge and then to the
Boardwalk and back to the Beach Club. I sat in the Beach
Club Villas solarium and just relaxed.
I went back to the room, showered, got dressed and woke
my husband. All in all we were out of the room by 7:15am.
We were having breakfast at the Kona Cafe at the Poly and
didn't want to waste time waiting for a bus, so we got a cab
at the BC cab stand and were at the Poly in about 7 minutes.
Our breakfast was fantastic!!!
IMG_1369.jpg

IMG_1370.jpg

IMG_1371.jpg

The Big Kahuna for me and an egg omelet for DH, as well as
some real Kona Coffee. With that, we were finished and ready
to hop the monorail to the Magic Kingdom. We had previously
seen the opening ceremonies at the Magic Kingdom on our
honeymoon, but never were able to get to see it again. So I was
very excited when the monorail pulled up and we saw the
crowds gathering at the gates.

IMG_1372.jpg

IMG_1373.jpg

We made our way down to the entrance and waited about
5 minutes and then the ceremony began.
Here are some great pictures I took:

IMG_1375.jpg

IMG_1381.jpg

We headed straight to Fantasy Land and rode Peter Pan,
Snow White, Small World and then saw Mickey’s Philharmagic.
At this time of the day, the park was so empty it was freaky!
On to Big Thunder Mountain, then the new Pirates of the Caribbean
and the Train to Main Street.
We wanted to see the new castle show so we headed down Main
Street and got some ice cream for the show. What a wonderful
production! The sky was blue and it matched their costumes
perfectly. Here are some pictures:

IMG_1399.jpg

IMG_1397.jpg

Once the show was over we headed to the Transit Authority ride
through Tomorrowland and then to finish out the day with Buzz!

We left the park in search of a yummy lunch and found our way
back to the BC for lunch at Beaches and Cream followed by some
swimming and a quick trip the gym.

The afternoon was set aside for relaxing as we had dinner plans
at Le Cellier and we couldn’t wait to walk around the Food and
Wine Festival. We showered, changed and headed out to the
International Gateway for our evening at EPCOT.

Here's a great shot of the sun setting from our balcony:

IMG_1418-1.jpg

We headed straight to Le Cellier for our 7:30pm ADRs and we still
had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. Once seated, we ate
lots of yummy breadsticks, soup and steak! There was no room
now for dessert, so we decided to head to Downtown Disney for
ice cream after Illuminations!
After dinner, we walked through the countries and checked out
the food offerings and talked about what we would try tomorrow
as we planned to spend the day at EPCOT!
As usual, Illuminations was awesome and we watched from the
bridge by England and France, so we were able to get away fast
once it was over. We actually walked to the BWI bus stop and
picked up a Downtown Disney bus there. At the time we thought
it was closer than walking back to the BC, but looking back, I’m not sure!

Downtown Disney and we hit Ghirardelli’s immediately- by this time,
our dinner had worn off and were looking forward to dessert!
We got our ice cream and sat outside at one of the
table along the water, enjoying our dessert and the
atmosphere! We walked around a bit afterwards and
headed back to the resort around 11pm.
Tomorrow Day 3: EPCOT and GOLF!!

Great start, looking forward to more.
Thanks for sharing

Day 3: Monday, Oct. 30th

Today we woke up when the alarm clock went off at 7:00am.
We had ADRs at the Whispering Canyon Café for 9:00am
so we had plenty of time to get ready and head
over to the WL for breakfast. It was a gloomy day
and we waited for the bus to the Magic Kingdom
and then switched to a bus for the Wilderness Lodge.
At Whispering Canyon we were seated pretty quickly
and we both had the skillet breakfast as well as a
mimosa each- hey it’s vacation right!!

After a filling breakfast we decided the best way to get to EPCOT
was take a boat to the Contemporary and hop on the Monorail.
Since it was a bleak and chilly morning- there weren’t that many
people around so we basically had the monorail to ourselves.

110_1007.jpg

Once we got to EPCOT we looked for our Leave a Legacy tile:
IMG_1467.jpg

and then road Spaceship Earth, got fast passes for SOARIN and
headed over to the Living Seas with Nemo to try the Turtle Talk
with Crush show. The show was really cute, very well done!

110_1009.jpg

110_1010.jpg

Afterwards, we road the new clam mobiles and headed to Test
Track to check on the lines. Since the standby line was so long-
we road the single rider line and were on in about 10 minutes! Not bad!!
Afterwards we headed to the Land for a boat ride of Living
with the Land. I miss the boat guide, but otherwise the ride
is still enjoyable.

IMG_1433.jpg

IMG_1432.jpg

It was finally time for our SOARIN fast passes and boy I LOVE this ride!
I could do it over and over! I was so hungry afterwards that we
conveniently got lunch at the food court in the land building.
They have such a wide variety of food- there was actually
too much to choose from!

When we left the Land Pavilion it was still quite gloomy -
So we decided to not swim today and head back to
the resort, change and go to the Winter Summerland
Miniature Golf and play a couple of rounds.

We took the bus to Blizzard Beach and walked over to
the golf course. The sun had come out and we enjoyed
two rounds of miniature golf.

110_1015.jpg

110_1018.jpg

110_1016.jpg

110_1014.jpg

It was so much fun! And the way the course are designed
with the stories about Santa and the Elves- very
unique and very Disney!

At this point, we decided to catch a bus and somehow get
to EPCOT. We decided to take the the first resort bus that
came and it was the Caribbean Beach. We got out at the CB
and waited for another bus to EPCOT.

That night was wonderful! No ADRs and we enjoyed a
leisurely dinner tasting all that the Food and Wine Festival
had to offer. We hung around for another showing of Illuminations
and then headed back to the BC for some ice cream at Beaches
and Cream before bed.
(Seeing a Pattern?? : We love Ice Cream!)

Up Next: Day 4: MNSSHP and more EPCOT!!

Day 4: Tuesday, October 31st- Halloween!

We were both up at 6:30am as my DH had a
Segway Tour reserved for 8:30am and he wanted
to be ready in time. Off he went and I took some time
to head to the gym and a stop at Periwig’s Salon for a
wash and blow-dry! That’s always a fun treat for me!

I went back to the room, changed and headed to
EPCOT to meet DH after his Segway tour.
IMG_1422.jpg

IMG_1427.jpg

Afterwards we headed to the Land for a morning ride on
SOARIN and another spin on Living with the Land, followed
by the Seas with Nemo for another clam mobile ride!

IMG_1429.jpg

IMG_1430.jpg

It was about 11am and we headed to the World Showcase
to sample more foods from the F&W Festival.

IMG_1436.jpg

IMG_1438.jpg

The weather was beautiful, it was even very
hot at times, but we enjoyed the sun and kept
right on eating!!

IMG_1437.jpg

We went back to the room around 2pm for some
much needed rest. We napped, changed and prepared
for MNSSHP. We had ADRS at the Plaza Restaurant for
5:30pm so we could get in the park early and not get
bombarded with the crowds at the party start time.

PS: This is the only picture I have of Halloween Night b/c my
camera ran out of memory :(

IMG_1439.jpg

We each had a yummy burger at the Plaza Restaurant and
then followed that up with a Dole Whip to share. We walked
around the park with our Halloween Loot bags and rode Pirates,
Magic Carpets of Aladdin and the Jungle Cruise before it was time
for us to sit on Main Street and wait for the parade. We sat
down about 7:20pm and the streets were just starting to get
crowded. We had great seats across from the ice cream parlor
- right in front of Casey’s and saw everything pass us right by!

After the parade, we shared a hot dog from Casey’s and got
our picture taken by the Photopass Photographers.

We were still around the Main Street hub when the 9:30
fireworks started and they were amazing and fun!

Then we headed to Big Thunder Mountain and we tried to
get on the Haunted Mansion but the line was way to long. So we
decided to find a seat in Frontierland and enjoy the
second parade of the night. It was so fun watching
from a different spot, than Main Street.

The second parade started and it seemed that the
Pirate float was stuck!!!!!
It held up the parade and Disney tech people and security
came from out of nowhere with this small tow truck that
towed the float for the rest of the parade route. I’d have
to say that the Pirate float was stuck in front of us for
a solid 10 minutes and all the CMs stayed in Character!

We did some more trick-or-treating and headed back to the BC
around 11:30pm with more candy than we needed!!!!

Tomorrow: Rain, Jiko and More EPCOT!

Day 5: Wednesday, November 1st

Rain Rain Go Away! We woke up to a gloomy rainy day!

IMG_1444-1.jpg

We had ADRs at the Grand Floridian Cafe so we hopped in a
cab and made it to the GF in about 10 minutes! We took our
time ordering and eating. I was so positive that the sun would
come out after breakfast, I wore a light summer shirt underneath
my sweather and my sunglasses as well! BOY-- I was wrong!!
It rained for most of the day!

IMG_1442.jpg

IMG_1441.jpg

It is such a beautiful hotel. After breakfast it was still raining
so we bought some ponchos and a baseball hat and decided
to head to MGM for some movie fun.

The park was so empty. I guess the rain really does keep
the crowds away. We rode RNR coaster, saw the Muppet
Vision 3D and the Little Mermaid Show and finished up with
the Great Movie Ride. We also took a walk through One
Man’s dream- that’s a great experience during the rain!

110_1062.jpg

110_1064.jpg

We ate lunch at the Studio Commissary and enjoyed
looking at items from the ABC television show LOST!

110_1065.jpg

After lunch it had finally stopped raining as we headed
back to EPCOT to catch a quick ride on SOARIN. We figured the
rain would keep the crowds away- but we still had a 25 minute
wait! I LOVE this attraction! One of my favorite parts about
staying at the BC or any of the EPCOT resorts is the boat
transportation! It is sooo sooo relaxing.

We got back to the room, napped, changed and headed
out for dinner at JIKO. We had ADRs for 8:30pm.
I took these shots right before we headed out for the AKL
- It was such a beautiful evening! The rain had stopped earlier,
the sun had come out and dried everything up and the temperature
had warmed up as well.

IMG_1365-1.jpg

IMG_1476.jpg

Again, we took a cab straight to the AKL and walked around
the lobby and outside before we checked in for dinner.
This resort is amazing and it completely feels like you
are in the African desert.
We were given a buzzer and directed to wait in the bar area.
DH sampled an African beer and gave it thumbs up. Our
buzzer went off and we were seated in the sunrise/sunset
room. The wall to our left changed colors as it showed
sunrise and sunset!

The food was amazing! I would have to say this is one of
the best places to eat at WDW! The service was fantastic
as Maryann our waitress was so attentive and so fun! After
dinner, we took a bus to Downtown Disney and did some
shopping in the World of Disney before heading back to the
BC for a good night’s rest!

Up Next: Day 5 – Animal Kingdom and Cirque Du Soleil

Day 6: Thursday, November 2nd.

Our phone rang at 7:00am for a wonderful wake up
call from Stitch! He really is annoying, I want the
Mickey Wake-Up call back!

We had no ADRs for breakfast so we got ready and
headed to the BC Marketplace for a quick bite.
This joint was jumping! There were kids and adults
everywhere! We patiently waited for a small table
for two and then each took turns getting our breakfast.
DH had a croissant with coffee and I had a fruit cup with juice.

The bus stop area was very crowded as we waited for
the AK bus. This was going to be our first journey on
Expedition Everest and we wanted to get to the park early-
but I guess a lot of other people at the BC had the same idea.
The AK bus line was the longest.
DH and I enjoyed the rest of his coffee as we waited in line.

IMG_1448.jpg

Finally the bus came and off we went! We entered the park and
made our way back to Asia to ride EE. Since I don’t really like
roller coasters, except for RNR- which is so small and inside –
I chose not to go on EE and my DH went alone!
He loved it that he went on twice in a row!

IMG_1451.jpg

IMG_1456.jpg

IMG_1452.jpg

It was another beautiful day and we stopped to watch
some monkeys up above before we walked to the Safari.

IMG_1454.jpg

IMG_1453.jpg

Even though our bus to the AK was crowded the park was
pretty empty. We waited 5 minutes in line for the Safari
and got off and went straight to Dinoland for Dinosaur-
which had a 15 minute wait! We went on Dinosaur twice
in a row as well- so much fun!

For lunch we ate at the Flame Tree BBQ and enjoyed ribs,
corn on the cob and beans!

As we were leaving the park we decided to take the first
resort bus that came to the AK and decide where to go
from there. We waited about 5 minutes and a Grand
Floridian/Wilderness Lodge bus pulled up.

IMG_1460.jpg

We got on the bus and would get off at the first
resort stop- which was the Grand Floridian. Once we
arrived, we decided we could take the Monorail to
EPCOT or the Magic Kingdom. We chose EPCOT b/c we could
make our way back to the BC easier!

IMG_1463.jpg

We got to EPCOT walked through future world and took a
quick stop at the Coca-Cola soda tasting spot and enjoyed
some yummy and fun soft drinks!

IMG_1471.jpg

We walked through the F&W Festival and made our way back
to the BC! We napped for quite a while and then showered,
changed and headed to Downtown Disney. We ate a quick
dinner at the Earl of Sandwich and then headed to see
Cirque Du Soleil. This is the second time we have seen this
show and it was more amazing than the first time! I highly
recommend seeing this!
After the show, we each got an ice cream cone and headed
back to the BC resort!

Up Next: Day 7 – Swan Here We Come!

Newark Airport you only sat on the runway for 45 minutes. Wow!! I usually get stuck on the runway forever. :( If you couldn't tell I am from NJ too.

Love your trip report. :)

Day 7: Friday, Nov. 3rd

We woke up at 7:30am so we could check-out of the BC
and into the Swan.
I am a Starwood Preferred Guest and I was able to use
some of my points for two free room nights so I save some
money and we switched resorts in the middle of our trip.
We packed-up, called a cab, checked –out and headed to
the SWAN. Check-in was easy, but our room wasn’t ready,
so we left our luggage and took a bus to the MK so we could
take the monorail to the POLY for another breakfast at the
Kona Café. After breakfast we came back to the Swan and
our room was ready - #595 with a beautiful view of the
lagoon and Disney boats.

IMG_1511.jpg

We walked down to the boat dock and decided to go to MGM
once again.

IMG_1486.jpg

IMG_1482.jpg

We enjoyed the Backlot Tour, Star Tours, RNR and
the Beauty and Beast show.

IMG_1490.jpg

We had lunch at the Pizzafari, but the pizza was so yucky
– in my opinion-! Take a look at my DHs face-- he didn't like the
looks of the pizza!!!

IMG_1488.jpg

So we headed to the Sunset Market by the Tower of Terror
and got burgers and chicken fingers! – Much better!!
It was very windy today, but the sun was shining
and the temperature was beautiful!

We took the boat back to the Swan and unpacked
and rested for a while!

Here's a beutiful view of the sunset from our balcony at the Swan:

IMG_1514.jpg

Tonight we had ADRs at San Angel Inn and we were looking
forward to some Mexican food! We showered, changed and
took a walk over to the YC to walk through there store
and just visit the resort and then we took the boat over to EPCOT.

110_1045.jpg

110_1046.jpg

110_1048.jpg

Since we got to EPCOT early- we thought we'd
try to catch a quick ride on SOARIN but the line was too
long and we would have missed our ADRs. So off to Mexico
we went and checked in about 10 minutes early.
Dinner was great! Food is always great here, but the
service could be better!

110_1073.jpg

We got out a picked a spot to watch Illuminations (AGAIN) and
then headed to the BC afterwards for some ice cream at Beaches
and Cream. Then off to the swan for some much needed sleep!

Up Next: Our last Full Day at WDW!

Day 8: Saturday, Nov.4th

The alarm clock went off at 7:00am, but I hit
the snooze and slept for another 45 minutes!
We then both got up and dressed and headed over to
Spoodles at the BWI for breakfast. That place is never crowded
and we get served very quickly.

IMG_1496.jpg

IMG_1497.jpg

We took the bus to the MK from the BWI and went on
Big Thunder Mountain, Pirates and Buzz Lightyear again. We said
goodbye to the MK for this trip and off we were to EPCOT.

IMG_1384.jpg

IMG_1383.jpg

We took the monorail and again road Spaceship earth,
went to the Land and got Fastpasses for SOARIN,
went over to Test Track for the single riders
line- again only a 10 minute way this time!

IMG_1498.jpg

IMG_1499.jpg

We walked through Innoventions and then the
countries and ate some more F& W Festival food.
So yummy!!

We went back to The Land for Soarin and then headed back to
the Swan for our last day of swimming. We went by the pool,
but never got in the pool as we found a hammock outside and
rested together for about ½ hour in the sun and wonderful weather!

We went back to the room showered and headed to the Boardwalk
for Dinner at the Flying Fish! The sun was setting on our last night
at WDW!!

IMG_1515.jpg

We were lucky to get seats right in front
of the grill and we watched the chefs in action all night!
Our meal was wonderful!

IMG_1519.jpg

IMG_1518.jpg

We took the boat to EPCOT to end out trip with one last
viewing of Illuminations!

IMG_1522.jpg

IMG_1530.jpg

After Illunimations, we had ice cream one
last time at Beaches and Cream and went back to
the room to pack for our departure tomorrow!

Day: 9 – Sunday, Nov. 5th

Today was DH’s birthday!

We had breakfast ADRs at the Kona Café – one more time
and then we were being picked up for our 11:20am flight at 9:30am.

106_0688-1.jpg

We were up, packed and ready to eat by 7:00am. We had a
lovely birthday breakfast and made it back- thanks to some fast
driving by our taxi driver- to the Swan just in time to get our bags
and head to the limo waiting for us.

737cee48.jpg

We said our goodbyes and the entire way home we talked about
planning our next trip to the world.

Thank you for reading my trip report! Hope you enjoyed it!
Renee :)
