Hi everyone!

After hitting a stall with Weight Watchers, I decided to experiment with Atkins. I've been on Induction for one week, and so far, so good. Losing weight, peeing purple (woo hoo!), life's just grand

Any way ... I have a question for the women on Atkins. I would ultimately like to lose 2-2 1/2 pounds a week. So, my question is, how much are you losing per week, how many carbs are you eating, and how much do you exercise? It would help if I knew if you needed to lose a lot or a little weight, but if you don't want to announce it, don't worry. (I'd include the men, but you guys lose weight twice as fast so it wouldn't help me.)

Thanks!

well i am two weeks into atkins offcaily with out the cheating and with water so i have to put my start date at 2/11
i wanna loose 50lbs
and so far i have lost 7
i eat very few carbs maybe 15-20 if that a day
i think i am going to stay around the 20 carb mark till i lose some more
i have also lost 1 inch so remember to check that as well not just lbs (thank you nativetxn for telling me that)

i have not begun a real exercise routine yet but that is my goal for this week

hope that is what you wanted to know

Hi there. I have been on Atkins since July, and am a slow loser. Actually, I tend to lose a lot one week (3 or 4 pounds or so) and then not lose for another 3 weeks. However, I do lose inches during those weeks. (This is a pattern for a lot of people doing Atkins. Don't use the scale as a guide for your weight loss.) I have lost 34lbs, and DH has lost 32. We have taken time off here and there (vacations and stuff) but as I posted a few minutes ago, I am definitely finding that it is not worth it for me.
I eat between 20 -30 carbs per day. (Don't go below 20, it could stall your weight loss), I drink at least my required water every day, some days drinking a glass or two more. I have not exercised since November (I hate cold weather!) but am itching to get back out there and walk. I do have a lot more to lose, but when I am on plan I feel SO good, and have lots of motivation. I do use the Ketostrips, but DH does not. Just a matter of preference. You will find after a while that you don't need them, you will be able to tell when you are in Ketosis. (I just use them for confirmation.)
Feel free to PM me with any questions! Hope this is what you were looking for.

Ok, I'll bite, being totally ignorant to this diet, can you tell me why this happens???

:scratchin YIKES! :scared1:

You don't actually pee purple! The ketostick - a test strip that tests for ketones in the urine - turns purple when there are ketones.

::yes:: Now that I can understand! hehehehe....

Too funny! Anyone want to spring for telling me what ketones happen to be? It's funny how diets tend to create their own languages... (Unless I'm just a chemistry idiot...:scratchin

Thanks!
Robin

I've been doing Atkins since the beginning of the year (New Years Resolution). I have not cheated at all. Yippee! I've lost a total of 21 lbs. in 7 weeks. 5 the first, 5 the second, 4 the third, 4 the fourth, and 1 each of the last three weeks. I've been staying around 20 carbs a day. I can't say I've been exercising much. I've lost 21.5 inches also. Best of luck to you!

I am also a ww to Atkins convert. I have lost 10 pounds since Jan 8th. I don't know how many carbs I eat a day. I never figured it out. I just do induction supplimented by a protein bar or some other low carb snack. I am very happy with Atkins. Good luck to you.

2 1/2 pounds a week is a high goal. Depending on how much you need to lose the average person successfully loses 1 - 2 pounds a week healthfully. This is because the body loses water weight initially which basically flushes out, fat takes much longer to lose but you can see it!

Exercising, of course, accelerates loss because it helps the body to burn fat faster. Make sure you do at least 20 mins of aerobic exercise daily.

In the long run it's better to make a sensible goal so you won't find yourself frustrated. If your goal is too high you will give up thinking something is wrong. Remember, the body is trying to stop you from "starving" so it will fight your loss every now and then. Being consistent is the only way to stay on track.

Good luck!
